Chapter 66
Comeback Of The Adored Heiress
Chapter 66:
Elaineâs deepest fears had become a reality, and her face tensed as she suggested calmly, âSince youâre so busy that you barely have time to eat, letâs not discuss work right now.â
âSure, sure, letâs focus on eating first. Today was hectic, and I didnât even manage to eat anything,â Josie said quickly.
Finally, there was a moment of peace. Throughout the meal, Josie and Kristine continued to make small talk, while Elaine and Madisyn had already cleared their plates.
Observing Josieâs slow pace, Elaine suggested, âNo rush, take your time eating. Weâll head back first.â
âWhat? Youâre leaving already? There are a few things I still need to discuss with Madisyn,â Josie responded.
Madisyn looked at her expressionlessly.
Josie continued, âI know youâre hoping Denali will clear the air. Since sheâs working with us now, I can arrange for that. What do you say?â
Elaineâs expression turned grimâwas Josie provoking her deliberately? Even if Denali made a statement now, would it change anything? Would anyone believe it?
âThatâs enough.â Elaine, having restrained her frustration all day, finally lost her cool. Her normally calm demeanor turned cold. âMadisyn doesnât need your concern.â
Josie was taken aback. It was her first time witnessing Elaineâs anger. âMrs. Johns, could there be a misunderstanding here? I genuinely want to assist Madisyn, especially now that Natural Beauty isââ
âWe can manage our affairs just fine on our own. If you have so much spare time, perhaps it would be better used to attend to your own business,â Elaine responded coldly.
Josieâs expression shifted to one of embarrassment.
Carly was visibly upset. âElaine, what are you implying? Josie was merely trying to offer assistance to your daughter, and this is how you respond? You clearly donât value genuine kindness!â
âGenuine kindness? Do you really think Iâm oblivious to the schemes you and your daughter are plotting? Itâs fine if you want to show off a bit, but do you have to keep going on and on about it?â Elaine scoffed. âDo you think a company is that important? Then your family must be facing troubles. But just so you know, even if Natural Beauty collapses, it wonât affect the Johns family in the slightest!â
Carly was seething with anger.
Madisyn watched Elaine, astonishedâshe had never seen her mother act so assertively! A mother who could stand her ground like that? Madisyn was admittedly impressed.
Josie quickly came to her motherâs defense, her expression stern. âMrs. Johns, how can you speak about us in such a way? We had good intentions, but youâve completely misunderstood!â
Kristine exhaled a weary sigh as she observed the unfolding drama, finally interjecting, âJosie, Iâm sorry. Maybe itâs best you and your mom head home.â
âIâm not leaving! Mrs. Johns, you can criticize me all you want, but how dare you insult my mother?â Josie said firmly. âYou owe her an apology!â
Elaine let out a light laugh. âApology? Your motives are quite transparent. Do you really think you can deceive me by playing nice?â
Carly retorted sharply, âYouâre just jealous because my daughter outshines yours! Youâve enjoyed a fortunate life with a successful husband and remarkable sons, yet your daughter hasnât measured up. That must sting, doesnât it?â
Madisyn was speechless.
Elaineâs expression turned even more severe. âIs that really what you think of me?â
âAm I wrong?â
âFirst off, Iâve never seen my daughter as a failure. She excels in her own ways; not everyone is meant for the business world,â Elaine stated coldly. âSo thereâs no reason to be jealous.â
Madisyn whispered to herself, âActually, I think Iâm quite capable in business.â
Elaine quickly reassured her, âMadisyn, donât fret. Even if you are a failure, Mom still loves you and doesnât see you as lesser than anyone!â
Madisyn was at a loss for words. Was she supposed to be relieved or upset by that?
Josie sneered. âWell then, Madisyn. If youâre capable in business, why not prove it with some results? Your company seems to be on the brink of failure.â
The air was thick with tension.
Kristine quickly attempted to defuse the situation. âMom, Madisyn, can we perhaps stop discussing these things? Josie, letâs call it a day. Please head home with your mom.â
Elaine faced Kristine. âKristine, whose side are you on?â
It was the first time she felt a hint of disappointment in Kristine. Didnât she realize how overtly Carly and Josie were mocking them?
Kristine softly apologized, âMom, I know youâre upset, but Josie wasnât mocking us. Perhaps she genuinely wanted to help Madisyn.â
Elaine was frustrated. âIf she really wanted to help, she wouldnât have partnered with Denali!â
âBusiness moves shouldnât be swayed by personal issues,â Josie interjected quickly. âI truly wanted to assist Madisyn, but it appears Mrs. Johns is too sensitive. Thereâs nothing more I can add. My mom and I will leave now.â
Regardless, they had accomplished what they came for. They departed with a sense of victory.
Elaine was visibly shaken with anger. Madisyn gently rubbed her back, comforting her, âMom, donât let it get to you. They are the ones who should suffer. Donât worry, theyâll regret their actions before they even exit the restaurant.â
