Chapter 74
Comeback Of The Adored Heiress
Chapter 74:
With Lukas serving as the vice president, Madisyn felt so at ease that she started playing games during office hours. At noon, as the door swung open, Madisyn was caught playing on her phone. Startled, she looked up to see Dane entering.
âDane, what brings you here?â
âWhat are you up to?â
Feeling a bit embarrassed, Madisyn admitted, âOh, just playing a game for a bit.â She hoped Dane wouldnât think less of her for relaxing a little during work. Playing games at work didnât seem very professional.
âWhat game? Is it any good? Can I try?â Dane seemed genuinely interested.
Taken aback, Madisyn didnât decline and shared that it was a popular sports game. Dane was enthusiastic, saying, âIâll download it later.â
Madisyn wondered if she was setting a bad example. Could this lead Dane astray?
âI stopped by to bring you lunch,â Dane said, taking out a bento box. The sight of the delicious food made Madisynâs eyes light up.
âWow, thanks, Dane.â
âYouâre welcome. Try some,â Dane said warmly, offering her a fork.
The mood was cozy. Almost casually, Dane mentioned, âYou are close to Waylon, arenât you?â
Dane was curious about why his sister always insisted on Waylon returning.
âWell, heâs quite nice. Waylon is a good guy.â
âReally? So, youâre quite fond of him?â
Sensing a potential problem, Madisyn quickly looked up at Dane and said, âItâs not just Waylon I like, I like you too.â
She could sense both menâs genuine kindness towards her. Daneâs expression softened significantly, a deep warmth emerging from within him.
âHave some more.â Madisyn exhaled in relief. She had passed the test. Having a family was precious, and the trick was learning to treat everyone fairly!
Suddenly, the door burst open with a loud noise. Mina entered abruptly. The assistant apologized profusely, âMiss Johns, Iâm sorry. I couldnât stop Mina.â
Narrowing her eyes, Madisyn replied, âThatâs alright.â The assistant left. Noticing the ongoing meal, Mina approached and presented a picture. âMr. Johns, I swear Iâm not lying. Madisyn is unfaithful. She has another lover!â
Dane glanced at the photo and recognized Andrew. His expression remained calm, yet a chilling and ominous aura enveloped him.
âSo, youâve been coming to me repeatedly just to show me this?â
âYes, Mr. Johns. I wouldnât want you to be deceived!â Mina said respectfully. âYouâve been very generous to her, yet sheâs betrayed your trust.â
Observing Daneâs somber expression, Mina believed she was close to achieving her goal. No matter how much Dane trusted Madisyn, the evidence of her alleged affair would surely sway him. Mina was convinced that Daneâs support for Madisyn would wane.
âEnough. You canât speak about my sister in such a manner!â Dane erupted in anger.
Mina was stunned.
Sister?
Madisyn Johns? Dane Johns?
There had been suspicions that they were siblings, but they were swiftly dismissed.
âSisterâ¦â Mina whispered in shock.
âI fired you, but I never thought youâd stoop to slandering my sister. You have no place in Gemond anymore! Leave now!â Dane shouted furiously.
The door swung open, and a bodyguard entered, seizing Mina. She was dragged out limply. The harsh treatment snapped Mina back to reality, and tears streamed down her face.
âIâm so sorry. I was wrong. Madisyn, I didnât realize you were Mr. Johnsâs sister. Itâs all my fault. I deserve this! Please forgive me!â
She was dragged out of the office, leaving behind a heavy silence. Dane was still seething.
Madisyn, trying to calm him, picked up a piece of pork and offered it to him. âDonât be upset, Dane. Iâm not bothered by it.â
âThese people deserve to die. How dare they slander you like that?â Dane muttered icily.
âLet them be. We canât stop people from doing what they want. We just need to focus on ourselves,â Madisyn reassured him.
Dane gazed at Madisyn, his look one of newfound respect. âYou really do have a strong mentality.â
âAbsolutely.â Madisyn smiled.
Unbeknownst to Madisyn, someone was trying to poach her employee that day. Lukas was dedicating long hours to work, staying late into the night. Though exhausted, he felt the effort was worthwhile. Working with Madisyn seemed full of promise.
Unexpectedly, Jenna came to see him.
âJenna?â Lukas was surprised to see her. âWhat brings you here?â
âI need to talk to you. It was my mistake, Lukas.â Jenna tossed her hair, not really feeling remorseful but appearing quite charming. She believed no man could resist her allure. âIâm sorry. I owe you an apology on behalf of my father too. I hope youâll consider returning to our company. We can offer you a higher salary.â
âIâm content where I am. I donât wish to return.â Lukas declined promptly.
âDonât be so quick to refuse. Do you even know who Madisyn is?â Jenna looked at Lukas.
Lukas was indeed clueless about that and replied, âI donât need to know.â
Jenna laughed disdainfully and said, âSheâs just a farmerâs daughter. Sheâs only a president because of her sugar daddy. What if he tires of her and fires her? Can you still stay there? Come back with me. Remember, Iâm the daughter of the Chapman Groupâs CEO. My future is limitless!â
Internally, Lukas rolled his eyes. âThe Chapman Group is prestigious, indeed. But itâs not for me. Iâm sorry.â
Jennaâs frustration grew. âSo, youâre really not considering coming back?â
âIâm quite happy here,â Lukas reiterated.
Jennaâs expression darkened further, her irritation mounting. Without Lukas, her workload was overwhelming, and the company was in disarray. Convinced Lukas was playing hard to get, she suppressed her anger and asked earnestly, âWhat would it take for you to reconsider?â
