39 Rhythm
The Reluctant Mate
Porter Mature
She was riding me like a wild thing and I could have cum at any minute but I wasnât quite ready for it to be over yet. Her body contracted around me, squeezing so hard that I had to grit my teeth to hold on a bit longer. Her pale skin was flushed with the exertion and she smelled so good...
I groaned with the force of my release, forcing it into her body. My wolf wanted to get her pregnant, and I desperately hoped she was right that her birth control would work against my instinctual desires. I didnât have to ask to know that she wasnât ready for children yet, and I didnât want to fuck this up now that it was going so well.
She moved again, and I held her to me more firmly while snaking a hand between us to find her clit. She shivered while I worked her to another height and she dug her nails into my back while her muscles squeezed me again. The way she clung to me in the seconds afterwards felt damn good.
âYou know, you might just be my new favourite drug.â
I just grinned instead of responding. âSo, sex in the forest? Yea or nay?â
âYea, although my knees are filthy,â she said. Her legs were splayed across me with her knees in the dirt on either side. My grin got bigger. âBut you took most of the dirt.â
âThat was the idea.â If I pounded into her with her back on the ground out in the forest sheâd be at risk of being stabbed and bruised by twigs and rocks, or really any position where I was pushing my weight into her.
She scoffed at me but I didnât care. She was human and I was her mate so I was going to protect her however required. It didnât matter that she was a tough little thing and could likely manage on her own just fine, she shouldnât have to now that she had me. I kissed her and her scoff melted into enthusiasm. The way I could distract her pleased me but I wasnât about to get myself into trouble by telling her that.
We walked for a bit longer before circling back to the pack. I watched her carefully for any signs of regret, but all I could sense was contentment. I wished I could mark her now, but like moving in with me and having children, I figured it was probably too far of a leap.
When we got back to the trailer, we were on our own so I carried her off to my bed and made love to her again, this time more slowly. I wanted her to be able think of nothing else when she left. And she did leave, although at least she didnât seem happy about it. I certainly wasnât, as I watched her drive away and forced my wolf down where he wouldnât cause any trouble with her.
After that weekend, we fell into a rhythm for weeks. Iâd see her once or twice during the week, and weâd go wherever we could have a bit of privacy on the weekend, whether it was my new rooms in the pack house or her place when both her roommates were out. She kept working at the job she seemed not to particularly like, and she had decided to start talking to a counsellor about what she called her âissuesâ.
I just wanted her to be happy, so I supported whatever it took to get her there, and kept my wolfâs impatience under control to the best of my ability, while I worked at the new site or around the territory. My time was stretched thin, but it wasnât that hard to manage with the satisfaction I got every time I saw her, and it helped me be patient while she set the pace. She knew that she was welcome to come and live with me when she was ready, and I kept my mouth firmly shut so I wouldnât pressure her about it.
It was six months since the night I had met her as I drove into town. She didnât know that, all she knew was that we were going out for a nice dinner that night. I had a surprise for her that I hoped she would like.
I knocked on her door, the box in my hand. It opened almost instantly. Daria stood there with the friendly smile I got now that she had determined I wasnât a threat.
âUgh, itâs so stuffy in here,â Lisa complained from down the hall.
âThen open a window,â Daria called back. She glanced at me. âSheâs almost ready.â
Lisa walked out. âI did have it open.â
âWell, why did you shut it?â
âI didnât.â Lisa paused and glanced at me. âOh, hey Porter.â
âMaybe you girls should think about keeping it shut and locked anyway.â Not that would do much good if someone wanted to force their way in. I didnât like the window, it was too large and too close to ground level for my comfort. Iâd already convinced them to let me install a chain lock after much arguing, but even that didnât make me feel much better about it.
Lisa looked annoyed. âThen weâll all roast in here. Itâs a hot spell.â
I shrugged. I felt a lot better about it when I slept over, but I could only do as much as I could convince them to let me. Obviously Amanda was my first priority, but she cared about her friends so Iâd prefer if it were even a bit harder for a vampire or rogue to get in.
Finally, my mate came out and she looked so good my mouth watered. Her hair was down, which I always likedâand I hoped she left it that way because she knew my preference--, and she was wearing a dress that was just tight fitting enough to make my pants feel the same, and to make me want to murder the men who were sure to check her out tonight.
And then her smile when she met my eyes...it was everything I could have asked for in a mate.
âHey Porter.â Her voice was as sweet as ever.
âYou should probably put your eyeballs back in your head before you try to drive anywhere,â Lisa said. My mate blushed a bit and Daria giggled. I didnât argue since I was so outnumbered.
âIâve got something for you,â I told her.
She looked at the box curiously.
âYou need to open it before we go.â
âThatâs good, because the curiosity would kill me.â She took the box from my hands.
âCareful. Itâs breakable.â
She lifted the lid and gasped, and then I got the smile that I had been aiming for. âPorter!â
âHappy six months.â
She glanced at me questioningly.
âSince I found you.â
Her roommates both cooed. I was used to ignoring them as an audience by now. Amanda and her friends were as up in each otherâs business as a pack. Iâd always believed humans were solitary creatures but my mate had taught me what social creatures they really could be. If the three could mind link Iâd be doomed.
Amanda lifted the orange and black kitten out of the box carefully and I took the box from her. âI thought you forgot I said that.â
âI think you should name him Uno.â
âUno?â
âSince heâs the first of many.â
âI love it.â She laughed and she looked as adorable as the little cat. Then she sighed. âWeâre not supposed to have pets here though.â
âHe can live with me until youâre in a situation where you can keep him,â I assured her. Or, hopefully when she wanted to live with me, too. The kitten was not an attempt to manipulate her into moving in with me. I wanted her to want me for me. And I doubted my stubborn mate would live with me if she didnât want to, even for a cat.
Of course, if a bit of feline bribery happened to tip the scales in my favour, I wasnât going to complain about that.
Our plans forgotten, she carried the kitten to the couch with her friends on her heels. It was fine, Iâd made the reservations later than Iâd told her, just in case we needed to run the cat back out to the pack before going. I doubted weâd need to since her friends seemed as enchanted with the fur ball as Amanda was. Daria glanced at me and gave me a quick thumbs up before joining the gushing over the animal.
Finally Amanda pulled herself out of her happy daze. âOh no, weâre going to be late! Will you guys babysit Uno?â
âDefinitely. Come to Auntie Lisa,â she said, taking the little orange fur ball.
âDonât worry. I fibbed about the time since I didnât know how long it was going to take.â
Amanda rolled her eyes as she put on some sexy high-heeled shoes that unbelievably made her legs look even better, and then we headed out.
