Alpha Nocturne's Contracted Mate
Alpha Nocturneâs Contracted Mate by A E Randell
Chapter 68 Apology Not Accepted
âDonât tease me, Adam. Those wolves are just spoiled and sometimes maybe all it takes is a reminder
of just how privileged they are to have such a stable and prosperous Pack.â
Adam chuckled softly.

âYou know, I am sorry for my out-of-character behavior today. Iâm not sure whatâs gotten into me.â
Adam said as he looked at her seriously.
Ann smiled back at him as she raised the glassto her lips and took a sip of the biting red liquid within.
âItâs fine Adam. Sometimes all it takes is a little rea*s*surance. This morning was unsettling and youâve
known that things were going to come to head for days⦠otherwise why else would we have paid a
visit to Lexi and her father?â Ann smiled wryly at him.
Adam snorted. She had a good point.
This was probably the first time that his normally unshakeable grip on the leadership of the Pack had
been threatened. Maybe Ann was right. It was plausible that this was the reason he had been so
unsettled.
A comfortable silence settled over them as they watched the sun disappear beneath the skyline and
dusk descended across the night sky.
âAdam? Do you think Esmerelda and Narcissa are working together?â Ann suddenly asked with a
thoughtful expression on her face.
Adam looked across at her slowly, uncertain of how to respond.
âI know it seems far-fetched, but, with what we know already and then the appearance of yet another
dark witchâ¦doesnât it all seem a bit much to be just a coincidence?â
Adam opened his mouth to reply but was interrupted by the ominous ringtone of Annâs mobile phone.
Ann glanced at the name flashing on the caller ID and rolled her eyes, sighing heavily.
âSpeak of the devil and she will appearâ¦â she muttered under her breath bitterly as she reached for
her phone.
Adam extended his arm quickly and placed a hand on hers as he looked at her meaningfully.
âYou donât have to answer that, Ann, you can just ignore it you know.â He said softly.
Ann laughed bitterly.
âYouâre right, I could. But donât I at least need to keep some sort of contact with them so that we have
an idea of their next moves?â
Adam grimaced unhappioy as she answered the call and sat back sullenly in his chair, frowning as she
spoke to the person on the other end of the phone.
âWhat do you want, Ada?â Ann intoned emotionlessly as she narrowed her eyes.
âNow now sister, thatâs not very friendly,â Ada answered jovially.
âThatâs because we arenât friends. Donât waste my time, we both know this general chit-chat and biting
back and forth has no meaning. Get to the point.â Ann snapped as Adam hid a smile.
âWell, if thatâs how itâs going to be Iâm not sure I should have called at all..â Ann whined, her shrill tones
loud enough for even Adam to hear.
âFine, Iâm hanging up then, Ada,â Ann answered impassively.
âNo, wait!â Ada said quickly before sighing heavily and continuing. âLook, Iâm not very good at this
okay?â
âReally? Something else you arenât very good at? The list grows longer by the dayâ¦â
âAnn, please. Iâm trying okay? I wanted to apologizeâ¦â âApology NOT accepted. Have a nice lifeâ¦â
âAnn, please! At least let me apologize in person to you. Donât you want to at least try to be reconciled?
We are family after all, and youâre going to have a niece or a nephew..â
âThat bastard child of yours is no relation to me whatsoever. We are not related by blood and I donât
claim you as my sister Ada, I never will. At one point I would have forgiven and forgotten..but not
nowâ¦â Ann hissed viciously, half regretting directing her anger towards the unborn child, but she
couldnât help herself.
The childâs mere existence was just lasting proof of her mateâs betrayal, although it didnât hurt as much
as it once had.
âAnn whatever I and Brad have done to you, our child is innocent in all of this..pleaseâ¦you are still
family through marriage..â Ada pleaded, the desperation in her voice making Ann feel guilty for the
briefest of seconds before she pushed it away.
âAda, if the child wants to have contact with me when it is old enough to make that decision then I will
welcome it with open arms..despite its parentâs failings. However, I will not have anything to do with
you, your soon-to-be husband or your b*tch of a mother. Am I clear?â
âAnnâ¦â Ada pleaded despairingly.
âStop calling me, Ada. I have nothing to say to you. I hope you and Brad have a happy future together.â
With that, Ann hung the call up and threw the phone on the table in front of her with a look of disgust on
her face. âNicely done..â Adam said with a smirk.
Ann snorted as she glared off angrily into the distance and her fury rolled off her in waves.
Adam smiled to himself as he drank in the sight of her. She was magnificent in her fury as Maeve
danced in her eyes.
He longed to share the bond with his wolf that Ann shared with Maeve but he was fully aware that it
may never happen, yet, in Annâs presence, he could feel the faint stirrings of the beast within him and it
excited him. âIn response to your earlier question before we were so rudely interruptedâ¦I donât know.
Itâs plausible that they are somehow known to each other. Iâll see if I can find out in my interrogations.â
Adam said casually, wanting to redirect Annâs attention.
The thought that she might still have feelings for Brad irritated him more than he liked to admit and all
he could do was ensure that she was too busy and focused on him, to make sure that she forgot about
that loser. Ann turned to him with a concerned expression. âAre you interrogating her alone?â
âYes, but Iâll be prepared, donât worry. I intend to go there with a list of information that I want to know
more about.â
Ann nodded slowly and stifled a yawn,
âCome on, letâs call it a night. Tonight has been⦠eventful to say the least.â
âOh, youâre actually planning on allowing me to sleep then?â Ann scoffed teasingly.
âNot just yet, my Lunaâ¦I intend to fill you with my s*eed until you p@ssout from exhaustion.â Adam
growled heatedly as Annâs eyes widened in horror.
Was this man ever going to be satisfied?!
