An enemy within
BLOOD MOON: The Lycan Alpha's Little Witch
Isabelle point of view
"MIKAYLA. YENNEFER. YOU TWO ARE NEXT." I watched as Stefanie told the two new rogues to spar against each other.
I couldn't sleep at all last night, I didn't even try. The thought of the death threat I got wouldn't let me sleep.
'Death is coming for you.'
I pondered about those words literally. I know how every assassin I have come across sent by red circle loves to have a dark and mysterious alias name. Could 'Death' be the alias of the assassin that tried to murder me last night?
I thought watching Yennefer and Mikayla fight. Mikayla was one of the new rogues, she was a red head with a fiery fighting spirit. I watched as she attacked Yennefer fiercely, to be honest Yennefer wasn't even putting up any fight. She was weak and slow for a wolf, still that didn't take her off the top of my suspect list.
Remember how I couldn't sleep last night? Yeah, I was up all night trying to think about who the red circle assassin could be and I concluded with five suspects. The newly admitted rogues.
The pack has an impenetrable boundary, making it impossible for anyone to just get in, well except for the rogues that arrived yesterday. Somehow one of them had to be the culprit.
I have kept my eyes on five of them; Andres, Yennefer, Mikayla and the twins Ethan and Aiden. One of them had to be the witch assassin in disguise.
"Yennefer you are never going to cripple your enemy if you move this slowly." I said, stepping in with a smile. I had a plan.
"Isabella, I was an Omega in my previous pack so I'm not so good when it comes to combat." She explained with an innocent smile, she seemed innocent like she wouldn't hurt even a fly but when she looked me in the eyes I could see an entirely different person.
They say the eyes are the windows to the soul, and when I stared into her eyes it was as if I was staring into darkness.
I quickly smiled, "Don't worry I'll teach you." I volunteered to become her sparring partner.
She swung at me and I just stepped back.
"You have to be a bit faster than that." I scoffed.
She attacked again and I easily ducked, sending a kick to the back of her legs, causing her to kneel before me.
"Wow, no wonder you got demoted to omega status in your previous pack, you're weak." I taunted with a smile. I could already see the flame of rage burning in her.
She attacked again once more. This time she was fierce and she moved with a speed like no other.
She landed a blow on my chest which sent me straight to the ground. Yennefer stood before me with a wide grin.
"I guess I am not so weak after all." She said with a straight face, her tone sounding threatening.
"Luna, are you okay?" Andres said, helping me up.
"Thanks. I'm okay." I told him with a smile.
"Great job guys. That's a wrap for today." Stefanie announced calling the pack training to an end.
***
After the pack's training, I was at the ancestral cemetery. I needed to find a spell to uncover the red circles assassin.
I already had gotten a strand of Yennefer's hair, during our sparring session I managed to get hold of it without her even noticing. I planned to perform a spell to find out if she was the assassin or not.
Now with the dagger left behind during last night's death threat and a strand of Yennefer's hair, I had everything I needed.
The spell would only work once so I only had one try in finding out who the assassin was, and I was going to test it on my biggest suspect, Yennefer.
I hope I was wrong this time for Gabe's sake, I don't want him getting hurt if it turns out that his mate was a spy sent by the red circle. He didn't deserve to go through something like that.
The hair strands collected from Yennefer served as a representation of her and the dagger was representing the enemy.
Red circle witches always spell bind their weapons with their magic, to make their weapons more fatal and dangerous. I could use the little thread of dark magic that was still in the dagger to perform a spell so I can know if the weapon belongs to Yennefer.
If she was innocent and the dagger doesn't belong to her the smoke would be black, but if it does, the smoke would be red.
I placed the dagger into the cauldron and also the hair that belonged to Yennefer, pouring in some mountain ash.
"Algerda possuma-" I paused on my spell, I could hear the sound of someone footstep approaching.
It was Dixie.
"Dixie?" I said, caught by surprise. I wasn't expecting that it was her coming.
"Isabelle, what are you doing here?" Dixie asked, looking equally as surprised as I was.
"I was trying out a spell." I said vaguely in all honesty. Covering up the cauldron. "What are you doing here? I thought you would be in the mountains helping Celeste with the boundary spell for tomorrow." From what I knew every witch was gathered up in the mountains, working on a boundary spell strong enough to contain Dimitri tomorrow in the lunar eclipse. So I assumed that she would be there too considering she is a rare siphon witch.
"Um I was but they have enough hands on it plus my sister is there helping out with the spell." She paused as if sensing something, she came closer, uncovering my cauldron. Her brows knit in confusion at what was in it.
"What are you doing with a blade cursed with black magic?" She inquired. How did she know that it was cursed by dark magic?
"How did you know that?" I asked.
"It's my gift. I'm able to discover hexes and cursed objects." She said with a proud smile. "So back to you, why do you have that?"
I couldn't tell her, I didn't know if she could be trusted with what I knew. If there's a spy witch in the pack it could be anyone.
She must have sensed my hesitance in answering her question.
"It's okay. I understand if you don't trust me enough to talk about this." She states, disappointed. I really felt bad, from what I know she seemed trustworthy, maybe I can confide in her.
"No, I trust you." I held her hand assuring her. "Someone tried to kill me with that dagger last night." I stated.
"I don't know how but whoever it is, is working with Red circle and I'm trying to perform a spell to find out who it is." I told her, she kept her eyes on me.
"Isabelle, we need to tell Alpha, if someone has infiltrated the pack he needs to know now so he can help expose whoever it is." Dixie suggested.
"No we can't tell Dimitri, yet. He has been busy with the lunar eclipse coming tomorrow, I can't make him worry even more." She nods "we can tell him after the eclipse, if I haven't figured out the identity of the assassin." She seemed to agree with what I said.
"So you are performing a representation spell, that means you must have a suspect. Who is it?" She deduced.
"I think it's Yennefer." I replied.
"Gabe's mate? But she's a wolf." Dixie said skeptical about my suspect choice. I know it sounded absurdly crazy to me too. How can someone who's a werewolf be a witch? Any way I do the math it doesn't make any sense.
"I know," I sighed deeply. "I know she's Gabe's mate and she is a werewolf but something in me tells me that she isn't who she says she is. It's in the way she looks at me, she seems like she is hiding something. I can feel it." I affirmed, my gut feeling is telling me that she is dangerous and my gut feeling has never been wrong.
"Okay fine, I believe you. If she is the enemy within we are going to find out. Together." She said, assuring me a nod.
"Let's do this." I held hands with her as we both began to chant the spell in unison.
"Algerda possuma⦠Mecredà gongoan rittuane!" The candles around started blazing high, the cauldron at our center was burning. We watched, waiting to see what color the smoke would be.
Black?
It was black, it wasn't a match.
"I was wrong. Yennefer isn't the enemy within." I said disappointed.
"What the hell Belle? You ran a fucking test on my mate!" My head snapped at a furious looking Gabe. What the hell was he doing here?
"Gabe, you don't understand. I thought she was an assassin sent by the red circle." I tried defending myself.
"Really you think Yennefer is an assassin, she isn't even a fighter let alone a killer. Come on Isabelle she is a werewolf not some secret witch assassin!" Gabe yelled, I haven't seen him this angry ever.
"I'm sorry but I didn't trust her--" I pleaded.
"Then you could have trusted me, I can't believe you did this to me. You were supposed to be my friend." He finally says before leaving the cemetery. I felt so bad for doing this to him. I suspected his mate to be a traitor and she wasn't. Now I know he is going to hate me for life.
