The Masquerade ball pt1
BLOOD MOON: The Lycan Alpha's Little Witch
Isabella's Point Of View
Our limo pulled up just outside an ancient castle, it looked elegant and was incredibly big.
The guards on watch all bowed in respect to Dimitri. I could sense their heart beat spike as soon as they saw him, they were all afraid of him.
"Shall we?" Dimitri invited with a smile and his arm opened suggestively. I intertwined my arm in his as we walked in.
I was dressed in a long red gown with a high slit at the side, which really complimented Dimitri's black tux. It was a masquerade ball so we both were also wearing a mask just like everyone else.
The huge door was swung open and all eyes turned to the door where we were standing. I walked beside Dimitri into the ball, His strong, steady and dominating presence filled the room. There had to be at least 1000 people here, all Alphas with their respective mates and Lunas and they all seemed to submit to his presence.
A grand light fell on both of us as the room grew eerily colder.
"Lycan Alpha Dimitri Axel Castellan, the blood wolf..." A voice introduced as everyone bowed their heads in respect.
"And his Luna Isabella Santacruz." The voice added. I could feel all their surprise eyes burn at me. This was the first time I had been introduced to the world as the Blood Moon's Luna, most people weren't even aware that Dimitri had found his mate.
Honestly, I had never been in a gathering like this before with so many unrecognizable faces and eyes staring at me. It was a little bit scary.
It's almost as if Dimitri could sense my fear because he took his hand and wrapped it around my waist, pulling me closer to him. I look up at his face.
"Stand tall Isabella, don't let them see your fear." Dimitri whispered in my ear. I nodded slightly in response. Dimitri kept a straight but intimidating face at all times. I took his words and stood tall, not an ounce of weakness or fear shown.
"So glad you could attend Alpha." Rafael walked up to us with his usual crooked smile intact. His thick black hair was gelled neatly behind him.
"We were looking forward to seeing what you had prepared tonight." Dimitri replied. I couldn't tell what was funny as Rafael burst into laughter.
"Don't worry. Tonight will be spectacular. This way Alpha Dimitri, many alphas have some business proposal we think might interest you." Rafael gestured to a group of Alphas watching us with drinks in their hands.
"Hmm, is that so? Okay, give me a minute." Dimitri dismissed Rafael, he turned to me.
"I feel bored already, how long till we leave?" I asked.
"Just a little more love, I need to figure out the whole mystery going on here." Dimitri said, looking around.
"You think something deeper is happening?" I questioned with furrowed brows.
"Every Alpha in this room is notorious for human and drug trafficking, it can't be a coincidence that they are on the guest list. Definitely they are all up to nothing." Dimitri sighed, taking a glass from a passing server.
"If you get lost, our meeting point will be at the garden." Dimitri whispered to me.
"Okay." I whisper back.
"Isabelle be careful. The men here are all the worst Alphas and trust me they aren't the good kind, they all have innocent blood on their hands and are power hungry just like Rafael. So if they as much look at you the wrong way or try to lay a finger on you let me know. I'll rip their head off and place it on the front gates to set an example." Dimitri said with a dead serious stare.
As much as I found his overprotectiveness and threats sexy it wasn't necessary, I could handle these werewolves just fine. I have killed worse creatures without even the use of my magic.
"Don't worry, I'll be fine." I responded.
"Most of the alphas here have come with prostitute slaves dressed up and some with their mates. Try making friends with the lunas." Dimitri uttered to me.
"But how do I know the difference?" I whispered.
"Easy, they will have a mark on their neck."
The men signaled to Dimitri.
"See you later, love." and just like that Dimitri was gone with them and I was alone.
Everyone's face was covered in masks. Fancy music played in the background as people chatted while holding glasses. It was a shame I didn't know anyone here. I imagined how much fun this ball would be if Iris was around, she would definitely have shown these people how to have a good time.
I sigh, taking a sip from my glass of champagne as I stood alone around a table. Are balls usually this boring? I was getting tired of this to be honest.
"Hello there, Miss. Isabella Santacruz?" A British female voice caught my attention. She was in a black dress and a matching black feathery mask covered her face.
"Yes, and you are?" I responded.
"Antonia Bebbel, Alpha Rashnikov's mate, he is currently with your mate." She introduced, lifting up her mask so I could see her face. She was a pretty blond with diamond blue eyes and red lips.
I glanced at her neck, she had a mark from her mate.
"It's an honor to meet you." Antonia says.
"Yeah likewise." I shook her hand.
"So, you are human? I can't smell your wolf." She asked me curiously. She couldn't sense I was a witch just as well as everyone here. I cloaked my scent so no one could track me and discover my real identity, as long as I didn't use my magic, the things that wanted me couldn't sense me. I could already sense that she was a wolf.
"Yeah." I agreed to her thoughts.
"Uh oh, you need to be very careful here." she says, her tone urgent.
"Why?" I ask.
"Some of the Alphas here have a grudge or two against your mate. If they sense you are human they will try to use you to get back at him." Antonia whispered.
"I wouldn't be so worried about me." I chuckled leaving Antonia in awe. It was sweet of her to give me a heads-up though. She honestly seemed like a nice person.
"Why do you say that?" Antonia said but I wasn't really paying attention to her, I kinda zoned out a bit, something else caught my attention.
I look around at the crowd of masked faces. I could see someone in a red mask staring at me. Something made me feel uneasy, the masquerade soon looked away from me and mixed in with the crowd.
I knew those eyes, something in them felt familiar.
Oh my goodness, that was Diego.
It had to be him, my cousin. I needed to catch him. We needed to talk.
I grabbed my purse and walked into the crowd.
"Wait Isabella, where are you going?" I heard Antonia call for me but I ignored. I needed to catch up to the red mask.
I followed the masquerade trail, all of a sudden I bumped into a server, spilling red wine on my dress.
"I'm so sorry!" The young man begged, his head facing down as he offered me some tissue to dab off the stain.
I looked around for the red masquerade but he was gone. There was no trace of him in the crowd.
"It's fine. Just point to me where the restroom is." I uttered disappointedly.
"Over there. Down the hall to your right." He pointed, I quickly headed to the restroom.
I splashed some water on my face after I arrived there. I was still hung up on the red masquerade at the ball. That was Diego, I was sure of it, but what was he doing here watching me? I needed to find him and talk to him.
First, I needed to get this wine and it's stain off my dress with a little magic.
"Unè vez larue..." I said a spell, drawing and extracting the liquid stain away from my dress and into the air. I had successfully gathered everything out when I heard a gasp.
"You're a witch?!" Antonia said with an open mouth.
Oh shit! She saw me do magic!
"Antonia, what the hell are you doing here?" I questioned her with as much surprise as she was.
"I thought you would need some help getting the wine stain off so I came to help you out. But you just made the wine float into the air. You're a witch!" She repeated again.
"Shhhâ¦! Someone might hear you. Yes I'm a witch but no one needs to know about this. Got it Antonia?"
"Don't worry I'm not a gossip, I'm just surprised you are a witch. Your secret is safe with me, Isabella." She said, easing my tension.
"I knew you seemed too special to be human." Antonia said with a smile. She was indeed a good person. After this I would love to meet her again to hang out.
Behind her the door was opened and a man in black came in. It was the server that bumped into me earlier. He was holding a silver crescent dagger.
"Antonia, behind you!!!" I yelled. But I was too late.
Immediately Antonia turned around and she was struck by the waiter, his dagger penetrating her chest.
She fell to the ground, her blood rolling on the floor. She was dead.
The man proceeded swiftly to me, his dagger in the air. I lifted up my hand towards him and he immediately stopped, dropping his weapon to the ground.
All I could feel was anger and rage, those powerful emotions consuming me. I could feel darkness overcome me, voices whispering in my head to kill him.
'Kill everyone!' the voices demanded.
I had no idea what was happening to me but I loved the power I felt coursing through me.
He continued gasping for air, coughing out blood. I could see his lips and tongue, they were black stained. He was a member of the children of shanahara, a small pack of deadly mercenary. I read about them in an old passage once, but they were believed to have been wiped out a long time ago, so why was one trying to kill me right now?
I clenched my fist and his heart flew out of his chest.
I needed to find Dimitri, we needed to get the hell out of here, someone was trying to kill me by hiring a pack of extinct assassins.
I stepped out of the restroom to find two more men in black waiting for me. I knew they were sent here to make sure I was dead. I drew out my dagger from my ankle, ready to give them a fight.
I ran swiftly, throwing my dagger into one of the mercenaries' hearts. I caused the other head to snap, more of them were approaching so I ran out into the garden.
I continued to battle fiercely as I was surrounded by five scary looking wolves. They all growled at me, barring their teets viciously. All with one intention of death.
I directed my gaze at the biggest wolf among them, finding myself smiling as it rolled on the ground in clear agony. The other wolf howled, all of them immediately attacking me. One lunged at me and I easily threw him away, with my mind. Before I knew it, a dagger went flying out of nowhere, aiming for my head, luckily I was able to dodge the blade before impact.
Another wolf came for me, aiming for my neck. Before I could do anything a dagger went flying out of nowhere, aiming for the wolf's head. I stared at the now dead wolf in shock. I looked over to where the dagger came from and it was from someone in a red mask. The red mask was removed and it was Diego.
He jumped in to help me, on landing on the ground three wolves crumbled to the floor at his sheer dark powers. He was on my side.
"Diegoâ¦" I muttered.
"You take the wolves on your left and I will take the ones on the right." He spared me a side stare, before backing me.
More of the mercenaries surrounded us, but I wasn't bothered, I knew I wasn't alone. I thank the heavens that I had my cousin here with me. This was going to be one bloody fight.
