There was silence on the road covered with long trees on the side. The moon was shining bright piercing through the darkness of night. Only the sound of crickets was heard because of it being a secluded area. Four black Thar passed through the highway with the Mercedes Maybach between them cutting the air with high speed. The Thars were filled with weapon-laden bodyguards and Mercedes had a beautiful couple sitting there, fighting their inner turmoil.
Meera looked at her husband who was driving a car with his eyes focused on the road and hands on the gear. Her eyes rested on his hand which was on gear. She looked at the ring on his ring finger and a smile formed on her face remembering the moment she gave him this ring and how elegantly he was carrying it. She didn't expect him to wear this but just kept it in the closet somewhere. While buying this ring, she was worried about the price but he proved her wrong. A genuine smile formed on her face seeing her gift on her husband's ring finger lying proudly.
She looked up and found Aashrit looking at her face. But in seconds, he turned his head to look at the front, making Meera doubt if she saw it right or if she was just hallucinating.
"You know how to drive?" Aashrit said cutting the silence between them.
"No" Meera replied with her words as he might not see her shaking her head because he was busy driving .s
"You need to learn that." He said and suddenly silence prevailed in the car.
Aashrit took a deep breath thinking about how to make her talk but nothing seems to get in his mind.
"Don't let people's word get to your head there." He said
Meera looked at him confused. And Aashrit understood without even giving her a look.
"That is not a place for you Meera ji. I am taking you there only this time and you might not meet most of these people in your life ever." Aashrit said and looked at the confused face of his wife. "They are manipulative and cunning people. Always trying to take advantage of others. And I would never want you to be around these people. Only some of them are genuine people there and you'll see them the day after tomorrow at our coronation ceremony." Aashrit somehow cleared her doubts.
Meera nodded at him and again looked outside while Aashirt huffed in annoyance on not hearing any response but he didn't give up "Also..." He started and Meera looked at him "Don't call me hukum there. Call me by my name. Or else they will use it against me saying that I am suppressing my wife." Aashrit said and although no one would say any such thing about him still he wanted to take the support of some lie to hear his name from her mouth. "You can try right now."
Meera was not ready for his request so she decided to counter it with her question "Then you should also not call me Meera ji but Meera only." She said hoping for him to deny it.
"And why so?" He asked.
"Because I am younger than you. And we don't call younger ones as jii."
Aashrit bit his lower lips to prevent the chuckle from escaping but after composing himself, he looked at her with a serious face "Are you saying I am old?" He said with a scary voice.
Meera got scared on hearing him and quickly replied " No I didn't mean that." She tried to justify but stopped hearing him.
" It's okay Meera. I was just kidding." He said
" Who jokes with such a serious face ?" She thought but her eyes went wide on realizing he just called her name without any Ji. And now she has to fulfill his demand.
She was still unsure about his demand but she didn't have any choice. She looked outside the window to try to avoid the conversation but Aashrit had other plans.
"I didn't hear it." He said making Meera look at him with unsure expressions.
She took a deep breath and looked at him "Can we please not do it." She said with a low babylike voice and pouted lips.
Aashrit's head turned in an instant on hearing her sweet voice. He didn't imagine her voice could be that much sweet and noticed the most innocent look ever on her face. He almost melted on seeing her face and it excited him more to hear his name from her.
"My name is Aashrit. I want to hear that." He said stopping the car as they already reached the venue.
Meera closed her eyes tight and held her Mangalsutra tightly "Aas........ Aashrit ji." She said finally and opened her eyes to look at him.
She looked at him with much difficulty and found a slight smile on his face which was almost not visible, only if she wasn't observant.
"Good. We can reach Aashrit from Aashrit ji soon." He said and opened his side of the door moving out of the car.
While Meera was sitting there shocked on hearing his words. Before she could understand her side of the car door opened and she saw her husband standing there with his hand forward towards her.
Meera held his hand and came out only to see the driveway filled with their guards only and at some distance lighting in a garden. Meera took a deep breath and was ready to face this also. She knew that it was going to be a common thing in her life now.
Meera and Aashrit were walking side by side towards the party when Aashrit spoke
"Will you be okay if I hold you from the waist or side hug you?" He said looking forward
Meera's head turned to him in an instant on hearing him. Aashrit looked at her side on hearing no response. He noticed the wide-eyed, shocked look on her face. Somewhere he felt a ping in his heart but he knew she wasn't wrong.
"My every action would be noticed there. It's a high-end party. Many media outlets would be there. I don't want to give them any piece of news which could be used against us." He said and saw her expression easing down. "It's not like I can't handle media but I don't want to waste my energy on that." He finished and looked at her.
Meera nodded with a serious expression "Are we supposed to act ideal husband and wife? Like we are in love?" She asked looking at him with curious eyes and a serious face.
Aashrit nodded at her while Meera said Okay to him.
As they entered the venue, Meea noticed every eye turning towards them. She stopped seeing the attentive eyes noticing them. It wasn't one of those times when people were not looking at her but she was just exaggerating. Instead, this time everyone was noticing her and her only. They were noticing the lady who was the wife of this successful, intelligent, handsome man. Suddenly, she felt so small beside him.
She felt a hand sliding to her waist and she saw her husband in front of her with one hand on her waist and the other in his pant pocket standing in front of her shielding her from every eye.
"Are you fine?" He asked
"I am nervous." She said without thinking.
Aashrit pulled his hand out from his pocket and put it on her cheek "Why ?"
"What if I embarrassed you in front of all these people."
"You could never. You might not know this but I have observed that you adapt to situations easily. And I am sure when we will leave this party, everyone will be talking about you only in a positive way. I trust you." He said.
Suddenly, Meera felt a wave of confidence in her on hearing him. It was so long since someone told her that they trusted her. And she decided to not break his trust.
"Ummhmm......" A throat-clearing voice broke their attention and they looked at the source of the voice.
A man in his late twenties was there with a charming smile on his face which somehow looked teasing.
"I never thought my baby could ever look at someone romantically." The man said with a chuckle while Aashit rolled his eyes.
"Meera, Meet Ranvijay Rathore. Soon to be CM of Madhya Pradesh." Aashrit introduced the man to Meera but soon got interrupted by Ranvijay.
"You forgot to tell Bhabhi about our relationship," Ranvijay said with a scary expression on his face.
Meera felt scared on seeing the look on his face and she held Aashrit's coat in fear. Aashrit noticed her and growled at Ranvijay.
"Stop fucking scaring my wife with this stupid look on your face." He said growling at him while Meera scrunched her nose at a particular curse word.
"And you stop making my bhabhi uncomfortable with these curses of yours." He said growling back at him.
Meera looked at both of them batting her eyelashes confused about their behavior
"He is my Best Friend too," Aashrit said gritting his teeth and glaring at him.
Meera turned her eyes from her husband to Ranvijay who morphed his face into a wide grin as he noticed Meera's neck turning towards him.
"Hi, bhabhi. Nice to finally meet you. I attended your wedding too but had to leave the party due to some emergency." He said forwarding his hand.
Meera took his hand in hers with a smile "Hello, Mr. Ranvijay. Nice to meet you."
She said and Ranvijay's face fell while a chuckle left Aashrit's face which he covered with a fake cough.
"Don't call me that bhabhi. You can call me Devarsa, Bhaiya, Rana, or Vijay but not Mr. Ranvijay." He said with a pained expression.
"Oh, I am sorry." She tried to apologize but was stopped by Ranvijay and Aashrit.
"Call him Rana. That's what I call him." Aashrit said and Meera nodded while Ranvijay's eyes went wide and soon his lips turned into smirk.
Aashrit leaned to her ear and said "And not Rana ji. Just Rana." He said and unknowingly his lips touched her earlobe sending a shiver down her spine.
Meera composed herself on seeing Ranvijay looking at both of them.
"Hi, Rana." She said biting her lips from uttering the word 'Ji'.
