First Madam Xuan nearly fainted with anger. âXuan Louze, you troublemaker!â
âMe, a troublemaker? Who am I troubling? You?â Xuan Louze was getting exasperated. This whole family seemed to be a bunch of lunatics.
âBastard!â A low shout came from the corner of the wall, followed by an arrow.
Xuan Louzeâs eyes narrowed, a flash of dark light passing through. He caught the arrow and threw it back.
The arrow flew so fast it was barely visible, grazing the attackerâs face and leaving a bloody mark, slicing off a lock of hair. It embedded itself in the wall, leaving only the fletching visible.
Everyone was stunned. How had Xuan Louze become so powerful?
Zeng Huo was the first to recover, his heart pounding. He quickly approached Xuan Louze and whispered, âThatâs Fifth Master Xuan, your father.â
Xuan Louze didnât care. If someone pointed an arrow at him, they had to pay. âGot it.â
Fifth Master Xuan walked over, anger and excitement mingling on his face. âWhat, you want to kill me too?â
âSure, why not?â Xuan Louze replied calmly.
Fifth Master Xuan choked. âBastard, Iâm going to teach you a lesson today!â He raised his hand to slap Xuan Louze.
Xuan Louze dodged, pulling First Madam Xuan in front of him. A crisp âsmackâ echoed, leaving everyone dumbfounded.
First Madam Xuanâs nose and ear bled, her face quickly swelling. She clutched her face in disbelief.
Xuan Louze clicked his tongue at First Madam Xuanâs condition. He thought, maybe Xuan Louze wasnât really Fifth Master Xuanâs son if he hit him that hard.
Fifth Master Xuanâs face turned a myriad of colors. âSister-in-law, I didnât mean to hit you; it was that bastard!â
First Madam Xuan had lost face and would remember this. She glared at Fifth Master Xuan. âYou really donât know how to teach your son!â She stormed off.
Xuan Louzeâs eldest brother ordered a servant to fetch the head of the family. They couldnât handle this, so they left it to him.
The head of the family, their father, arrived, furious after hearing what had happened. âWhat is going on?â
The eldest brother exaggerated the story to their father. âDad, thatâs how it happened.â
Xuan Louze stood calmly, indifferent to the added details.
The family head looked at Xuan Louze with a scrutinizing gaze. âYou returned, attacked your sister, and shot your father. Youâve become more unruly!â
Xuan Louze crossed his arms. âAre you blind? She whipped me first, couldnât handle it, and blamed me. He shot an arrow at me, and I just returned it. He couldnât catch it, how is that my fault?â
The family head looked around. âIs that how it happened?â
Everyone bowed their heads; it was indeed how it happened.
The family head waved his sleeve. âEveryone disperse, no more nonsense.â He turned to leave.
Xuan Louze smirked. So biased. If thatâs the case, donât blame him. With a flick of his finger, the family head tripped, face-planting into the ground.
Everyone was shocked. The eldest brother and Fifth Master Xuan hurried to help him up.
The eldest brother ordered, âNo one speaks of this!â
If word got out that the family head fell like that, their reputation would be ruined.
The bustling gate quickly emptied, leaving only Xuan Louze and Zeng Huo.
âLetâs go.â Xuan Louze led Zeng Huo into the mansion, stopping suddenly. âDo you know where I live?â
Zeng Huo shook his head. âNo idea.â
Xuan Louze called a passing maid. âYou, come here!â
Heâd already been labeled as arrogant and lawless, so he might as well act the part.
The maid trembled, running over. âFifth Young Master, what can I do for you?â
âTake me to my quarters and get me something to eat,â Xuan Louze ordered.
âYes, Fifth Young Master.â The maid respectfully led Xuan Louze to his quarters.
Xuan Louze noticed how everyone looked at him like a mouse seeing a cat. Truly, being too nice gets you bullied.
Xuan Louzeâs quarters, the Lin Shui Courtyard, were shabby, overgrown, and damp. âIs this fit for a human?â
âFetch the steward!â Xuan Louze commanded. âTell him if he doesnât come, Iâll hang him at the gate.â
The maid shivered. âYes, Fifth Young Master.â
After a while, the maid returned alone.
Xuan Louze nodded. âGood.â
The maidâs heart was pounding.
Xuan Louze asked, âWhose quarters are the best here?â
âThe family headâs are the best,â the maid replied, glancing quickly at Xuan Louze.
âLetâs go. If Iâm going to stay, Iâll stay in the best.â Xuan Louze beckoned Zeng Huo. âTo the family headâs quarters. Lead the way, little maid.â
âYes, Fifth Young Master.â The maid had no choice but to comply.
Arriving at the family headâs quarters, the whole family was there, including the steward. The atmosphere changed instantly upon Xuan Louzeâs arrival.
Xuan Louzeâs elder sister, Xuan Loufei, shouted, âXuan Louze, what are you doing here? Havenât you caused enough trouble for Grandpa?â
Xuan Louze looked at his sister, feigning innocence. âHe tripped on his own. What does that have to do with me? Besides, with his poor mobility, you should have helped him.â
Fifth Master Xuan knelt at the gate, turning back to scold, âXuan Louze, what do you want?â
Xuan Louze ignored him, heading straight for the family headâs room.
The eldest brother shouted, âStop him!â
Guards rushed at Xuan Louze.
Xuan Louze waved his hand, a powerful force knocking everyone out of the courtyard, landing them in a heap.
Everyone was in disbelief. Was this really Xuan Louze?
Xuan Louze didnât care about their reactions. He opened the door. âI have no place to stay. I like your quarters. You move somewhere else.â
The family head, applying medicine to his bruised face, looked up sharply. âYou wretch!â
Xuan Louze shrugged. âI have no parents. I donât understand that. Now, I want to stay here. Move out, or Iâll move you out. That wonât be pretty.â
Is there anything from this chapter you want me to keep in mind for next time?
