Chapter 41

Seeing ghosts.

(BL) Help! My best friend is obsessed.

- Ethans POV -

I talked to Rosa in the back of the kitchen, laughing at Kyle. A few days ago, he had told us that he went on a date with his match on tinder, but apparently it was a catfish.

He had showed us a picture of his real date and it was a small, ugly man with a long beard. He looked like a homeless man to be honest..

Me and Rosa would never let him live it down.

Anyway, the restaurant started getting fuller, so we went back to serving. I walked up to a table with two parents and three children. I smiled.

"Welcome. What can I get for you?"

The mother spoke first.

"I would like some fri-" Her husband cut her off suddenly. I stared at him, immediately knowing what kind of man he was.

"She would like a Caesar salad with some white wine. For me, a nice medium-raw steak with a glass of red wine."

I gave him a sarcastic smile and grabbed my notebook, writing down the order.

"Medium-raw steak with red wine... fries... what would you like with your fries, ma'am?"

She tried to speak again but her annoying husband spoke up first. He gave me an angry glare.

"I said she wants a Caesar salad."

"She said she wants fries. Thank you, but your order has already been written down. If you don't mind letting your wife order her food, we can all continue." I gave him a nice smile and looked back at the woman.

".. some red wine, please..." She said quietly, not daring to look at her fuming husband.

I nodded approvingly and wrote it down. I looked at the oldest child. They looked around 13.

"Uh... Steak and cola."

I nodded and went to the next.

"Fries and water, please!"

I looked at the last person. It was a little girl, around 5. She looked at the menu card.

"Mm... steak, fries and water!"

She gave me a cheeky grin and I couldn't help but smile back. God, she was cute. Again, the husband spoke up.

"No Lilith. That's too expensive. Don't be so greedy."

God, how much I wanted to strangle his neck. Let your daughter eat, for fucks sake. I wrote the daughters order down and went back to the kitchen where Rosa and Kyle already were.

"My god.. I just had the worst table ever. This husband is so fucking controlling and he didn't even let his wife and daughter order for themselves.."

Kyle chuckled.

"Not the worst table.. Rosa just had to serve a table with old men who were all looking at her like she was a piece of meat. And then she had to serve a table in the corner where stinky gangmembers are."

Rosa huffed in annoyance and crossed her arms.

"And even worse? This dude yelled 'waiter!' at me, like I am a fucking dog. And he ordered a whole fucking red wine bottle! For him alone!"

I held my stomach as I laughed at her.

Even though the job is nice, and it pays well, the costumers are the worst. Don't get me wrong, there are so many sweet ones, but some of them? Literal hell spawns.

"Well, good, cause I need a glass of red wine. That rude bastard won't notice if there's a bit of wine missing, right?"

Rose smirked and shook her head. Sometimes we messed a little bit around with orders. I had stolen some fries once, while Kyle took a piece of steak. I mean, come on! The food is so tempting!

Rosa poured some red wine in a glass and handed it to me.

"Good luck out there. Ima stay back here for a while. Those old men are way too scary."

I grinned and left, hearing Rosa beg Kyle to take that table over from her before the door closed behind me. I calmly walked through the restaurant, before I saw the table that Rosa must've meant. All old men sat there in suits, staring at one man at the end of the table in shock.

I had to walk past the table, but the chair of the guy was kinda blocking the way. I reached out to tap his shoulder until I caught sight of his face.

The world seemed to spin as my airways closed. I felt my head banging in my head and accidentally let the glass fall out of my hand, spilling red wine over him.

The whole restaurant turned to stare at me as he screamed at me, but I couldn't care less.

It isn't true.

It can't be true.

I backed away and ran into the kitchen. Rosa saw me coming in and frowned.

".. I spilled some wine on a costumer."

She cursed and grabbed a towel she ran inside the restaurant and I heard some commotion, but I didn't care.

Tears formed in my eyes.

He's dead, Ethan. Calm down. Deep breath in, deep breath out.

The room started getting smaller and I panicked even more. Rosa rushed back in.

"You gotta apo- Ethan?"

She stared at me in bewilderment as she saw me having a panic attack.

"Ethan, what's wrong?! Are you okay? You look like you've seen a ghost!"

She tried to come closer but I pushed her away. I ran out of the kitchen and out of the restaurant. I just had to get away.

I didn't stop running before a hand suddenly grabbed my arm. I got pulled back and someone screamed at me.

"You better fucking pay, you di-"

He stopped talking and his grip loosened. I stared into his eyes, and saw him recognizing me.

"You're supposed to be dead.." I mumbled under my breath as I backed away. I quickly ran off and turned a corner, escaping his sights.

You're supposed to be dead.
