lan’s hand paused mid–shuffle, a touch of admiration for her thick skin crossing his face.

Outside the bustling hall, Maja froze as she listened to the voice on the other end of the call.

The caller was none other than the currently missing Grandpa Holden

‘Maja.”

The voice on the other end paused, followed by a series of coughs.

‘Grandpa Holden.”

Maja, thinking she was hallucinating, responded urgently.

“Where are you now? lan has been looking for you everywhere.”

“Maja, let’s meet tomorrow night, and don’t tell lan.”

Tomorrow night?

They would be deep in the mountains by then, camping overnight.

This meant that Holden was nearby but chose to remain hidden

Maja was full of questions, but all she heard was, “There are some things I want to ask you alone, so lan can’t

know.”

After speaking, he started coughing heavily again.

When Holden had left, he was already on his last leg. Now, it was a wonder he was still holding on.

“Grandpa Holden, I’ll have lan trace this call.”

“Maja, it’s my last wish to see you. I want to clarify some things. Please, don’t tell lan.”

‘Alright.”

She hung up the call and returned to the crowd, but lan was nowhere in sight.

She politely asked a woman sitting nearby, who rolled her eyes at her.

‘Can’t you survive a moment without a man? Just went to answer a call, that’s all.”

Maja was speechless, but she didn’t want to argue. If a conflict arose, lan would be upset again.

She searched all around but found no sign of him until someone kindly mentioned, “He’s in the poker room next

door.”

As for Ryan, he was smitten with Rocky and spent the evening playing with him away from the crowd.

Upon entering the poker room, Maja instantly spotted Judith seated next to lan.

Judith was trying to cozy up to lan, laughing and chatting.

She was the daughter of the Sanders family and was merely leaning on lan. She hadn’t committed any crimes, so

lan had no reason to pick a fight, but he looked uncomfortable.

Seeing Maja enter, he let out a sigh of relief and immediately gave up his seat.

“Maja, come and play”

Maja, preoccupied with her thoughts, shook her head. “I’m going to bed. I just came to let you know.”

lan also moved to retire, considering they hadn’t finished what they started in their room earlier. The thought made

him flush.

Tyler and Dylan, however, kept him in check

Dylan was the first to object “You’re leaving after just one round?”

“It’s not even ten, lan Stay and play with us a bit longer.”

lan frowned, but he did respect Dylan and sat back down.

As Maja leaned over to say goodnight, her perfume wafted into his nostrils “lan, I’m heading to bed.

“Okay”

In her room, Maja tossed and turned, unable to sleep at the thought of the phone call.

Downstairs, the servers began to serve drinks

Judith was especially proactive, asking Dylan and lan what they wanted to drink

Judith immediately went to arrange it. When no one was paying attention, she slipped a powdery substance into the

red wine.

“Miss, if something happens to lan tonight, this trip might.”

Judith wrapped her arms around his neck, her voice sweet. “Wind, it’s just some hallucinogen. I want my Brother to

know that lan and I are also flirting. That way, he’ll completely side with me.”
