Maja wanted to contest that, because lan himself told her that he only popped his cherry not long ago,

so he was a virgin before that.

saw lan, she was shocked.

Carol nudged her gently with her elbow, “You’re so determined; it seems like the guy didn’t make you

feel good.”

Maja immediately blushed and quickly changed the subject, “About Carter, I always feel there’s more to

it, but I don’t own any shares in the Pennyfeather family’s company, so it’s hard to investigate. Plus,

he’s tight with the receptionist; I bet he’d know the moment I walk through the door.”

Carol rolled her eyes at once.

“Maja, I’ll be blunt. Your father hasn’t given you any shares up to now. No one can blame you even if

the company goes belly up one day. You’re a nobody at the board meetings. I bet Cristina’s word

carries more weight than anything you say.”

This was the harsh reality..

Maja felt bitter.

But Neil’s illness was because of the pressure from the company; she couldn’t let him wake up to find

out the Pennyfeather family was

in trouble.

“Carol, can you have someone tail Carter? I want to know who else he’s close with.”

“No problem; I’ll let you know when I have news.”

After Carol left, Maja stared in a daze at the picture on her phone.

Is Carter being sneaky because he’s keeping a bunch of mistresses or because someone’s watching

him?

Now all she can do is wait for Carol’s investigation results.

She rubbed her forehead, resting at home for a bit before heading to the hospital to see Neil.

Luckily, Neil really woke up this time, opening his eyes.

But he couldn’t talk. He just stared at Maja with his swollen eyes.

Maja had a feeling that he had a lot to say. She immediately grabbed his hand.

“Dad, don’t get too worked up; you’ll get better slowly.”

Neil blinked his eyes, but with the oxygen mask on, his eyes were burning, and tears rolled down his

cheeks.

Maja was taken aback; in her memory, Neil was always a strong figure. Despite his poor choice for

Cristina, he was her rock when her mom was still alive.

Otherwise, her mom wouldn’t have praised him so much. But their relationship somehow changed.

Neil was getting really agitated. The monitor started beeping.

Maja immediately called the doctor, who gave him a sedative to put him to sleep.

“What’s wrong with my father?”

Why was he so agitated?

“Ms. Pennyfeather, we’re not sure. Maybe Mr. Pennyfeather wants to tell you something, but his body

isn’t cooperating, so he can only anxiously wait. Once he wakes up, everything will be fine.”

Maja nodded, anxiously watching Neil sleep.
