Her voice was filled with joy.

lan stayed silent for a while and put down his coffee cup, “Carlene, I’m not going to the auction.”

He was beating around the bush, but his point was clear. He didn’t need her company.

Carlene’s face turned pale instantly. She knew that arguing wouldn’t help, so she just comforted

herself.

“I get it. Is it about the overseas project that needs your personal attention?”

lan nodded and turned on his laptop next to him.

He sent Maja a message.

[Let’s head overseas together tomorrow.]

When Maja received the message, she was at the hospital visiting Nathan. He was insistent on leaving

the hospital, so she was handling his discharge and preparing to take him home.

“Don’t you think you should stay in the hospital a bit longer?”

The injury Nathan had was accidental and she felt somewhat guilty.

“Nah, Penny. It’s just a flesh wound. I just got promoted. I lost Mr. Raymond’s cufflinks last time at work,

and Mr. Judson wasn’t too happy about it. So, I got to step up my game.”

His face was badly swollen, but he still gave her the money back.

Nathan hesitated a bit. He was broke and fond of money. This money would improve his life and help

him get a girlfriend.

Eventually, he accepted it.

Maja drove Nathan home.

Nathan’s home was in a remote area, dimmer than the city center.

Maja saw a little girl waiting for Nathan at his doorstep. The girl was on crutches, probably his little

sister.

When Nathan got out of the car, the little girl started to cry seeing his face.

He picked her up to comfort her.

That’s when Maja saw lan’s message.

He wanted her to go abroad with him!

She bit her lip nervously and then replied to him.

[Mr. Raymond, I don’t recall being your secretary.]

She still owed him eight services, but that did not include going abroad with him.

Seeing the message, lan’s face darkened, and the atmosphere around him became frosty.

Carlene was still waiting in front of him, feeling his gaze becoming sharp.

She quickly seized the opportunity to speak.

“lan, are you sure you’re not going to the auction? It’s a big one this time. Maybe there will be

something Edith likes.”

He sounded indifferent and a bit impatient. He closed the chat window with Maja.

Carlene got the answer she wanted and quickly left.

lan took out his phone and called Maja. She was taking Nathan’s medicine out of the car.

And the little girl in Nathan’s arms was still crying.

Seeing lan’s call, Maja stiffened. After answering, she heard his voice.

“Are you with your husband?”

His question sounded casual.

But Maja felt a sense of danger from it, and she quickly denied it.

“No.”

By now, her surroundings were very quiet.

Maja didn’t dare to hang up casually.

“Penny, do you have kids?”

His tone was a bit vague and dreamy.

“No.”

lan was asking about the crying of the child he heard just now.

Maja misunderstood, thinking lan was worried about her getting pregnant and then using the child to
