“lan, I’ve just bought out the Pennyfeather family’s company.”

At this moment, lan was sitting in his office chair, showing no reaction to the news. He simply asked, “That fast?”

Carlene’s eyes were full of smug satisfaction.

“Yeah, I didn’t think it would happen so quickly either. The Penny feathers couldn’t put up much of a fight. I was

surprised that Maja just stopped showing up at the office. Probably at home throwing a fit or something.”

lan’s lips tightened briefly before he casually started typing on his screen.

“Carlene.”

He suddenly called her name.

Carlene thought he was about to compliment her, but,instead, he said, “I don’t think we’re going to be together

anymore.”

Carlene’s smug expression vanished instantly, and she thought she must have heard him wrong.

“lan, are you joking?”

lan lifted his head to look at her, his eyes still calm.

What Carlene hated most was his indifferent gaze. He had never shown any affection for her. The most daring thing

she had done was link arms with him.

Even tightly hugging him was a rarity.

Tears welled up in Carlene’s eyes instantly.

“But Eric said you would take care of me.”

At the mention of Eric Raymond, lan’s fingers froze momentarily.

“I’m sorry, I don’t want to string you along. I did think about marrying you before, but I’ve changed my mind. I

thought it would be better to tell you sooner rather than later.”

Carlene’s voice was bitter, and her fingers clutched her pants tightly.

“So, who do you want to marry now?”

It seemed like as long as lan mentioned a name, she was ready to confront that person.

But lan answered quickly.

“I don’t want to marry anyone.”

Carlene let out a breath, but her eyes were still filled with tears, and she looked rather pitiful.

“lan, if you don’t want to marry anyone, why can’t I stay by your side? I’ve said before that I’d actively pursue you.

Are you going to deny me that right?”

lan didn’t soften at her tears.

“You should go home.”

Carlene couldn’t believe it, as if she didn’t know him at all.

But looking back, lan had always been like this.

She gritted her teeth and took a deep breath. “I understand. You’re in a bad mood now. I’ll come find you when

you’re feeling better.”

If she made a scene now, she wouldn’t stand a chance.

After she left, lan stared at the data on his computer, but his fingers didn’t move.

He was indeed in a bad mood, having spent a sleepless night.

Every time he closed his eyes, unpleasant thoughts filled his mind, making him uncomfortable.

Hé frowned deeply, forcing himself to snap out of it.

It’s just a woman. there’s no need to fuss over it.

Even as he thought this, he couldn’t help checking his phone.

The entire night had passed without a call or message from her.

His mood worsened, and he tossed his phone aside carelessly.

But a few seconds later, his phone rang.

His expression lightened slightly, and his brows relaxed a bit.

However, when he picked up the phone and saw it was a call from Holden, his brows furrowed again.

He didn’t answer the call.

He called Jeff over and gave him an order.

“Tell everyone from the Raymond family not to mention a word about the Pennyfeather company to Holden.”

Although Holden still held some clout, the person who truly controlled the Raymond family now was lan.

Everyone knew he was not to be trifled with.

Moreover, Holden was still recuperating. If he got upset about this and something happened, who would take the

blame?

“Tell them not to be too smart for their own good.”

Jeff nodded and immediately went to carry out the order.
