Chapter 573

When she walked out of the room and into the hallway, the maid grabbed her and filled her in on the real deal.

“Doc came by yesterday. He said that in the best case scenario, Mr. Pennyfeather’s got a month tops. Ms.

Pennyfeather, Mr. Pennyfeather’s been calling your name

a lot. He lost pretty much everything he had. He’s in a bad way, and I don’t think he wants you to see him like this.

It’s probably best you don’t come back.”

The maid was trying to look out for Neil, and Maja got it. When she was seen out, the maid had one more thing to

say.

“We were going to pick a plot for Mr. Pennyfeather, but he said he wants you to pick. You should probably start

looking. I don’t think we have much time.”

Maja wanted to say something, but she was tongue–tied.

She nodded awkwardly and left, feeling light–headed.

Her car had a flat tire. It looked like she ran over a nail; it was wedged in there.

“Ms. Pennyfeather, why don’t you drive the Pennyfeather family’s car?”

The Pennyfeather family’s car was a Lamborghini. It used to be Tricia Pennyfeather’s, but they’ve taken it back now.

So she took off in that, leaving her clunker behind.

Later, she called the cemetery and picked out a nice spot

On the other hand, after the cruise banquet, Laura’s career was going downhill fast.

First, she got dumped by Kurt, then she got fired because she wasn’t Kurt’s girlfriend anymore, and all the blame

fell on her.

She lost a million fans, and the number was still dropping.

Carlene sat across from her with a smirk on her face.

“Laura, watch out for that woman. She’s not done messing with you.”

Now Laura was getting paranoid; she was itching to confront Maja.

“Let her try! I’ll make her pay!”

“And how are you going to do that? You’ve seen it; she’s got lan backing her up. She’s not scared of anyone, not

even me.”

Laura was speechless. Carlene’s cold laughter flashed in her eyes; it seemed she still needed to push Laura more.

Over the next month, Laura lost over three million fans, and then a video of her bullying others in school was

exposed.

Back in school, she was a little thug, but after she debuted, she had a good image, presenting herself as a

sweetheart.

Now that the video was out, she was trending for all the wrong reasons.

Laura realized she was screwed.

She quickly called Carlene.

“Carlene, can you do me a solid for old time’s sake? I’m screwed; I’m really screwed this time.”

Laura had only ever told Carlene about the bullying thing in school. The video was actually released by Carlene,

who was trying to corner Laura.

A person who’s cornered could do anything.

“Laura, I’d love to help, but it’s clear Maja’s behind this. There’s nothing I can do.”

Laura’s eyes were filled with hatred.

Before she met Maja, she had just won the Newcomer Award; she was the rising star everyone was watching.

But in just a short time, she became the object of everyone’s disgust.

“That vile woman, it’s all her fault! She ruined everything!”

Carlene sighed.

“The Shepard family’s not doing so hot either. I’m no match for her. What can I do?”

“I want her dead!”

Laura was yelling on the other side, so Carlene went ahead and gave her Maja’s license plate number: “Maybe you

can talk to her, ask her to give you a break.”

“Heh.”

Laura hung up.

Over the past month, Maja had been busy planning the Pennyfeather group’s foray into the film industry.

Thankfully, the top brass she picked were all capable. The initial investment of half a million dollars each had

already turned a profit.

Shawn had also contacted her, he could sign the contract soon.

Maja being able to bring a top star like Shawn to the Star Movie group was unbelievable to the company’s top brass,

considering the company didn’t have anything

yet.

But clearly, Shawn’s addition was like a shot in the arm, firming everyone’s resolve to fight alongside Maja!

Maja worked until 6 p.m., then her phone rang. It was her father, Neil.

“Maja, where are you?”

“I’m at work, Dad. Are you feeling better?”

“Yes, a bit better.”

Neil sounded a lot more cheerful, but Maja felt a sinking feeling in her chest.

She suddenly realized that these might really be her father’s last days.

At the Pennyfeather family’s villa, the maid had prepared dinner. Neil, leaning on his cane, slowly descended the

stairs, with the maid urging him on.

“Mr. Pennyfeather, we can bring your meal to you”

Neil shook his head and said, “I won’t rest easy unless I deliver this meal myself. Even if I’m leaving, I don’t want

any regrets.”

At the end of their lives, people can get stubborn and obsessive.

Some people, knowing they’re going to die today, will hang on until their most important person arrived.

Once they’re told that person was here, they just needed to hear their voice, and they would let go.

Neil was in that state now; he was still holding on.

The maid quickly helped him into the car.

This was the car Maja left here. The driver wanted to change it, but Neil waved him off.

“Just this one.”

Once in the car, he started curiously going through the other stuff.

There were books about painting, finance, and everything.

Every time he saw a book cover, he’d smile, then cough.

The maid sat with him in the back, watching the traffic light change up front as the car moved according to traffic

rules.

But then a speeding sports car suddenly smashed into them from around the corner.

“Boom!”

The crash was loud because of the speed.

Neil’s car got whacked so hard that it flipped over and even skidded for more than tens of meters.
