“You wouldn’t get mad even the Raymonds treated you like this?”

Beck wasn’t exactly clear about her relationship with the Raymond family. However, after he heard Selena giving

her a piece of her mind, he got some idea. The whole thing seemed ridiculous to him.

On one hand, lan and Penny were all tangled up, but on the other hand, he had just let her get bullied like that.

Did he actually like her?

If he had paid a smidge of attention to his ex–wife, he would have surely figured out her identity by now.

But he was the high and mighty lan. His ex–wife Maja was like a tiny ant in front of him. Why would such a noble

person bother with a tiny ant?

This was all just too absurd.

Maja didn’t say a word, just quietly sipping the porridge from her bowl.

Beck couldn’t help but sit at the edge of the bed, taking the bowl from her and placing it on the bedside table, then

pulled her into his arms and lightly patted her.

Since he brought her back home, she’d either been sleeping or staring at the ceiling, like she was in a daze.

He sighed, patting her back, saying nothing.

Maja hadn’t said a word these past two days, only mechanically answering when Beck asked her something.

Now, after a good cry, she seemed to have found herself again. She quickly pulled away from him.

Beck then asked her, “You want something else to eat?”

She had gotten a stomachache these past few days, almost fainting from the pain before she was discovered.

But she wouldn’t eat anything else other than porridge.

“Mr. Sanders, thank you.”

Beck patted her head, “Penny, I don’t have any ulterior motives.”

He was worried that she would misunderstand his kindness, thinking that he saved her because he had feelings for

her. But he could swear, even though he was a playboy, he didn’t feel that way about her.

He would feel ashamed if he did.

Maja knew that he wasn’t lying. A person’s eyes couldn’t lie.

Beck had a servant bring some food, gave her some tissues, advising, “Take care of yourself once you’re done

letting it all out. You’ve lost weight.”

Maja took the plate, but even this simple action was hard for her to pull off.

People tended to slow down after experiencing great fear.

“Penny, I think you can get through these hardships.”

After he said this, Maja’s eyes became more determined.

Beck finally breathed a sigh of relief, but still reminded her,

“If the Raymonds hate you this much, you’ll have a lot of problems if you end up with lan.“”

Maja gave a bitter laugh. She understood this better than anyone, which was why she always kept her feelings for

lan in check.

Even in a normal family where the parents were alive, if they knew that their daughter’s husband’s family hated

their daughter, they wouldn’t want their daughter to

be unhappy. And there was no way to reconcile Maja and the Raymond family’s conflict.

A normal family would be clear about this. So how could she, a girl with no idea where her parents were, choose to

fight alone?

How could she, who had no right, love lan and fall into this abyss?

So, when lan asked her in the box, she turned him down without any hesitation.

At that point in life, she had no family. Apart from her beating heart, she had nothing to rely on.

If she gave him her access to her heart, and he betrayed her, she would end up in the deepest pit of hell.
