At the hospital, Maja spent the whole morning taking care of lan and then went to ask the doctor when lan could

possibly be discharged.

The doctor said, “He needs at least half a month more; it depends on Mr. Raymond’s recovery status.”

Maja nodded and then brought lunch for lan.

By now, there was an extra phone by lan’s side, probably prepped by Jeff.

Maja took a glance and found her own phone was also set up.

Just as lan switched on his phone, it rang. It was a call from the servants at Greenfield Gardens.

Since lan was eating and his hands were weak, he chose to put it on speakerphone.

“What’s up?” he asked.

“Mr. Raymond, Ms. Darlene has been waiting for you here all night, the servant said.

lan froze, subconsciously looking at Maja.

He remembered that when he was upset, he told Maja that he was going to marry Darlene.

He knew Maja took things seriously and might believe him.

He had a hard time holding Maja’s hand last night, so he couldn’t let their relationship go back to the awful state it

was before.

“Kick her out, I never allowed her into Greenfield Gardens! Call security, don’t let her in again!” lan said.

“But Ms. Darlene keeps saying she’s pregnant, we don’t know what to do,” the servant replied.

This gave lan a headache.

He now regretted ever getting involved with a woman like this!

He always had strong self–control, and he only lost it in front of Maja.

“Tell her to leave!” he said sternly.

The servant hurriedly wanted to hang up but heard Maja ask, “Is Coco at Greenfield Gardens?”

Maja heard from the doctors‘ conversation that a white dog was very active at the rescue scene.

When she realized she couldn’t escape, she let Coco go, but she didn’t know what happened to Coco.

She was really worried about Coco.

Hearing her question, the servant immediately replied, “Coco’s here, at Greenfield Gardens, but it’s been a bit off

lately, so we tied it up.”

“Don’t tie it up, it doesn’t like that. Let it move around more,” Maja said.

lan quickly added from the side, “Did you hear that? Why would you tie up Coco? Go untie it now!”

He hoped to shift the topic from Darlene to Coco.

The servant immediately nodded. “Okay, I’ll go right now.”

After hanging up, lan continued to chat with Maja about Coco.

“When you disappeared that day, Coco was really anxious. It led me all over the park, looking for you. It’s really

smart, the smartest dog I’ve ever seen,” he said.

He wanted to close the distance with Maja by talking about Coco.

Sure enough, when he complimented Coco, Maja smiled.

“When it was at Rosewood Manor, it had a professional trainer. It’s a very smart breed and can easily detect

people’s emotions,” Maja said.

At this moment, lan’s phone rang again.

It was still a call from the servants at Greenfield Gardens, but this time his tone was anxious.

“Mr. Raymond, we can’t wake Coco up! We’re taking it to the pet hospital and we’re on our way there.”

Hearing the servant’s words, Maja dropped the bowl in her hand and snatched lan’s phone.

“Why can’t you wake it up? What are you talking about?”

“We don’t know either. Coco just vomited blood, and we can’t wake it up. We’re on our way to the pet hospital.”

Take it to the best pet hospital!”

“It is the best hospital, Ms. Pennyfeather; we’ll send you the address.”

Without giving lan another look, without caring about the bowl that fell on the bed, Maja’s heart was wholly with

Coco. Her hand gripping the phone was trembling.

When she saw the address, she immediately grabbed her bag and ran out.

lan tried to get out of bed to chase her, but he nearly fell because his legs were still weak.

Then he leaned against the bed and glanced at the bowl on the bed, the soup was spilled on the sheets.

But he just silently watched, and after a while, he picked up the bowl and threw it into the nearby trash can.

He knew Maja cared a lot about Coco, now that Coco was in trouble, she must be worried.

But he couldn’t help but feel a bit wronged.

Even if she just gave him a few more glances.
