✯Six✯ - The Truth
Jacob's Game ✅
â·Chapter Sixâ·
A chill breeze made way through Teresa's body, which she'd constantly tried to ignore, but the continuance made her groan as she tiredly sat on the bed she laid on a seconds ago. Her eyes located where it could be coming from.
The sight of the glass window open greeted her, making her groan in annoyance. She turned to check if Jacob was still in the room, but there was no Jacob. There was no denying the fact this had actually been Jacob's handwork. Adding another check to the list of this she doesn't like about him.
There was nowhere in hell they both were sharing the same bed again. She made note of asking Daniel for an extra sheet, though praying he won't find her question rather odd.
Sluggishly she removed herself from the bed, hesitating not a second to shut the window. The room took a moment to get to its normal temporary.
Teresa sighs at the comfort, but angry at the perpetrator. "Stupid fool." She cursed out, almost blinded by the need to knock some senses into the head to Jacob. She had only wished he was there with her, she'd have kicked him straight on his groin. "Dick." She cursed yet again, before walking away from the window.
Since she was up, and there was no way she could go back to sleep, she might as well step out to have her now rumbling stomach fill. Teresa only thought as of now was food, nothing gets her working but food.
Finding nothing wrong with her dressing, she immediately let herself out of the room, resisting the urge to sprint into a race straight into the kitchen.
Walking down the short hallway, she caught sight of some picture frames hanging on the wall, putting her to a stop. Teresa had no idea why she did, but she found herself intrigued to know what it could be.
The first picture she saw was a full picture of the Snow family. In the middle sat Daniel with a huge grin, by his side was his son Harry and Louisa, who happens to be Gideon and Jacob's parents. There by the side of both Daniel were the undeniably faces of Gideon and Jacob during their teenage years, with little Gina at their parents' feet.
Teresa finds herself fascinated by the beauty of the family. One looking at the picture would wish to be among the family portraits. But those rascal sons of Snow are too headstrong in succumbing to the wishes of the family.
Stupid Snow bachelors.
Her eyes trailed to the other side of the frame, the frame held the picture of mid age Daniel Snow who once again had that happy smile on his face, both his eyes pinned in the brunette woman he had his arms around. The look the petite woman gave him was undeniably the gaze of love. And with the way Daniel stared right back at her, it was love. A look every woman dreams of, a look Teresa wishes for to have one day.
"That was my grandma Teresa Snow." A voice spoke by her side. Teresa lifts her gaze up to take in the presence of a tired looking Gideon. His appearance was that of someone who found it hard to sleep at night. She only hoped it was that of guilt.
"She has my name?" She said, softly almost like a whisper, but luck enough Gideon heard her.
"Had." He corrected, "she died twenty one years ago. I only got to know her when I was still a kid. And the little I know of her, she was a very giving person." His eyes stared at the portrait she had her eyes on.
Returning her gaze back at the picture, she felt sad for poor Daniel, sometimes love hurt. She could already picture how heartbroken he must have felt then. "What happened to her?"
"Glioblastoma. Cancer of the brain. Very painful and quick death. She'd refused to get any treatment. Putting the whole family in distress, I felt she knew no matter whatever treatment she took, she still won't make it. But what can I say, I was too small to understand whatever was happening around me."
Teresa never said a word back, as she kept silent, letting what he'd just spoken of, sink right into her head. It was sad.
"I'm sorry for not telling you the truth." Gideon apologized finally, as the atmosphere was getting already uncomfortable between them. Teresa could hear the fidgeting of his feet showing how nervous he was. But she again chose to ignore him, her eyes still placed on the picture of both couples in love. "Teresa?"
"I'm telling Daniel this whole thing is a sham." She dropped the word out immediately. She couldn't suppress the guilt that was already burning her heart, her windpipe became narrower as she found it too hard to breathe.
Gideon's hand whirled her around to face him, a pleading look on his face. "Because I lied to you about pretending to be my fiancée instead of telling you it's been Jacob? Do you thing I don't feel guilty about that already?" He whispered, trying to resist the urge to speak out loud, with the way the vein in his head looks ready to pop out. "If it were that easy, I'd have put a stop to this whole thing. But it isn't that easy. Why? Because we're here already there's no going back. Any going back will only hurt Daniel's heart more."
Teresa felt her eyes sting, with tears filling her eyes, facing Gideon with a glare on her face. She had no idea why she was only a string away to burst out in a fit of tears. But she felt so frustrated. "And it's because of Daniel himself that's making me put a stop to this whole mess, don't you get it. Pretending we're a couple is only insulting the love your grandparents shared. Are you that heartless?" She snapped, unable to resist the tears from dropping. Immediately she wiped the tears off her face as she walked past him to put an end to all this.
"Teresa stop." He grabbed a hold of her elbow pulling her back away from the staircase. "Do I need to remind you, you agreed to this. Anything you do right now will damage his weak heart. And I care a lot for him to cause him such damage." He said with a look of distress on his face, before taking a deep breath. "Please don't do this."
She shook her head in disagreement. Pulling her elbow from his grip. "I was stupid to have agreed to this whole thing. Gideon can't you get it?. The more we keep this lie, the more it will break his heart when we tell him about both relationships not working. We've got to tell him the truth before he gets too attached to me. It's still early."
"But it's only for one week."
"How do you expect me to believe it's only for one week. When all you've been doing since we came here was lying. What makes you think Jacob will let me go during the next one week?"
He ran his finger in his hair, a sign on how frustrated he felt. "He'll let you go." He clarified, putting one of his hands on his hip.
"How can you be so sure about that? It's Jacob we're talking about here. One thing among the things Jacob does is, he never listens to people. He likes doing this his own way. He loves extra." She said almost yelling at the top of her voice.
"He won't do that, trust me. Because he has no other choice but to let you go."
Teresa raised her brow up at the sincerity in his voice. "Did you both sign a contract on that without my knowledge?" She said accusingly, as she bit her inner lips from avoiding lashing out at him.
Gideon let out a little smile, the dark circles under his eyes popped out even more. There was no denying how stressed he really was, and the guilt plainly in his eyes. "Just know he won't. I have a lot on him that he has no choice but to let you go."
Teresa's eyes narrowed on him, she was still skeptical of his word. The one thing she hated was being bothered and stressed. She has always run away from being cornered and confronted. Her best way for freeing all that stress was to run away from it.
Somehow now the courage to not run but to straighten things out was far too strong. And there is no way she was going to let it all out.
"I'm sorry I can't continue lying." She moment those words came out, her heart skipped a bit when a door opened behind her, she turned around to find out there were both not alone.
"What are you both talking about?â"
Teresa sighs. Feeling the stress getting to her already.
Not now, not like this.
