Chapter 42: The lost mate bond

“Doctor! Doctor! Where the fuck is everyone?!” Dominic’s loud voice boomed in the hospital, shaking the building But nothing could express what he was feeling. He was feeling as if he would die at any moment. The breath would leave his body any moment and at the same time someone was clenching his heart by taking it in hands. He was in pain. Too much pain.

But he wasn’t feeling this pain because of the mate bond or anything because that bond was gone. It was gone in a way where he couldn’t feel it even a little bit.

The pain he was feeling was coming from inside. He couldn’t bear to look at Athena, fighting for her life.

It was all his fault. He won’t be able to forgive himself if something happens to her.

Heck, he would die! What’s happening to him?!

“Oh my god, alpha. She is in a very bad state. It’s going to be hard saving her.” The doctor said immediately after he saw the state of Athena.

She was almost dead. Her heartbeat was hardly there. She was breathing very slowly as well. It looked like she would stop breathing any moment now. Her beautiful face lost all its colour then. The thought of her not getting it back again was scary!

“You fucking need to save her! Do you understand that?! I want you to save her at any cost! At any fucking cost! Otherwise you better count your last breath as well!” Dominic growled out loudly while going out of control. The doctor gulped in fear when he realised that his alpha wasn’t kidding. But he needs to act professionally at that moment.

“She is losing too much blood, alpha. And just like the last time, her healing ability is still weak and it’s near non-existent as well. It seems like her wolf is either too weak or dead already. I am sorry but there is hardly any way to save her!” The doctor tried to make him understand once again but Dominic wasn’t having any of it.

“What the fuck do you mean?! You have to save her! want her alive! There has to be a way to save her.” He asked in desperation. He suddenly felt his body going cold and numb.

No! This can’t happen. He can’t lose her! Not after realising what she meant to him! He just fucking can’t lose her!

“There is actually a way, alpha.” The doctor suddenly spoke up, taking all the attention back to him. His eyes widened as soon as he heard him.

“What is it?” He asked hurriedly, not wanting to waste a single second in the process.

“Her mate.” The doctor stated, confusing Dominic. He suddenly went silent when he realised what the doctor meant. His silence confused Nathan and that’s when he decided to speak up for the first time.

“Her mate? How can that help her?” He asked.

“Yes, beta. Only her mate can help her at this moment. Mate bonds have divine power. Moon goddess has blessed mates with this for a reason. Just like declining the mate bond can kill the other person, they also hold the power to save each other. So, you need to bring her mate here anyway possible.”

The doctor said while trying his best from his side by starting to clean up her wounds and all.

“Her mate… but.., it’s…” Dominic was at a loss for words as he looked around in confusion. He couldn’t think straight “What’s wrong, Dominic? You are her mate, right? Go and save her!” Nathan exclaimed with a frown or confusion. Even though he had a lot of questions, he kept them to himself.

“No…” Dominic mumbled out while looking down. Nathan frowned after hearing him.

“What do you mean by that? Aren’t you her mate? But you said that there, in the fight…” Nathan trailed off i n confusion, trying to make sense of what was happening.

“I know because I… was… her mate. We don’t have a connection anymore… I don’t know how that is possible but something is wrong and now I don’t know what to do.” Dominic said in helplessness as he couldn’t think of a way at that moment.

He felt weak…

“You said she had a second chance mate. Maybe he can help. Do you know who her second chance mate is?” Nathan asked with a frown when he realised that his friend was giving up on thinking. So, he took the responsibility.

“No, I don’t know…. …. just know…. Is..is it possible.” Dominic mumbled in confusion and blackness.

His mind was completely blank as his eyes were stuck on Athena’s lifeless face. Nathan looked at him in utter confusion but before she could ask or say something, he heard his mate’s voice.

“Where is she? How’s she? And second chance mate? What are you guys talking about? She doesn’t have a second chance mate.” Suzanne exclaimed in shock and worry. It was clear from her teary eyes and cheeks that she cried on her way here.

“How can you be so sure?” Nathan asked with a frown while taking her in his arms first to comfort her.

“What do you mean by that?! I have lived here for three years. I may not know her past but I know her present enough. She doesn’t have a second chance mate. She had only one mate who rejected her.

Maybe we can find him and save her. We need to save her.” Suzanne scowled at Dominic in anger before worry came down on her face again. She cried out loud while hugging Nathan as soon as she saw Athena’s lifeless face.

“Oh my goddess! What happened to her, Nathan? It wasn’t supposed to happen to her.” She cried on his chest.

“Shh… She is going to be okay. We just need her mate.” Nathan spoke up while looking at Dominic with a frown, he waited for him to say something.

“No, her first mate can’t help her…” Dominic opened his mouth while looking at Athena blankly.

“What do you mean? How do you know that?” Suzanne asked with a frown.

“I...I just know… We need to save her… find some other way.” Dominic ordered while looking away from them, his face was getting blank.

He slowly started to believe that there was no other way other than going to Derrick who actually could b e her mate. But… He just can’t accept that. The thought almost destroyed him. Just when he was losing hope, they all heard a new voice.

“There is no other way, big alpha boy. Only you can save her.”

Everyone looked at the entrance of the corridor and found Irene along with Clement standing there.

Dominic recognized her immediately because she was the reason he could reach Athena actually.

But was it to any use now?

“Witch?! How dare you come to my territory again and how dare you talk to me like that?” Dominic growled at her.

“I am not your pet, alpha. That tone doesn’t work for me. So, I am not going to be afraid of you. Not at least in a situation like this where her life is more important than these silly fights. Because trust me, it it wasn’t for that pretty bitch, I wouldn’t have stepped foot here.” Irene snapped at his annoyance as she walked toward him and stood just in front of him with her head held high.

“How do you know her?” Suzanne suddenly asked with a frown. Irene rolled her eyes at her.

“That’s a story for another time. Just concentrate on saving her.” Irene snapped before looking back at Dominic “How can we save her?” Dominic asked with a deep frown, the desperation was clear in his tone.

“Not we, you. Only you can save her. Your bond can save her.” Irene stated.

“Wait a minute. Mate bond? His mate bond? What the hell does that mean?! Dominic?! Does that mean you are that asshole-…?!” Suzanne exclaimed in shock and anger as she glared at him. She was almost going to attack him if it wasn’t for Nathan who stopped her..

“Ditto that! Your last line, Suzanne. I agree with you.” Irene joked with a smirk..

“How fucking dare you-…!” Dominic growled but yet again it didn’t bother her at all..

“Suzanne, my love. Calm down. We can talk about that later. Now we need to concentrate on her.

Please for her sake.” Nathan cooed in Suzanne’s air who was fuming in anger..

“Our mate’s bond is gone. It’s fucking not there anymore. We can’t feel it. Our mate bond is fucking broken! “Dominic shouted as he pulled his hair out in confusion and frustration. Irene looked at him with a deep frown.

“What the hell was that supposed to mean? That stupid bitch actually didn’t accept your rejection, did:

she?” Irene scowled, angry at Athena. Because if she actually accepted the rejection, they won’t be left with any other way.

“No, she didn’t. We stopped feeling the connection suddenly. She started to feel shit for Derrick. I don’t understand what the fuck is going on!” Dominic growled and that’s when Irene let out a sigh of relief.

“Oh, wait! Now I might know what’s wrong.” She said with a smirk and walked toward Athena.

“What do you mean? What’s going on?” Dominic asked in confusion.

“Wait, let me check first.” Irene said as she mumbled something with closed eyes while touching both of her cold hands. She opened her eyes soon with a sigh.

“And exactly what I thought was wrong.” She said with a small shake of her head.

“What do you mean? Will you fucking tell me?! We don’t have much time.” Dominic exclaimed in anger while looking at Athena with fear, fear of losing her.

“Yeah, so that asshole, Derrick…” Irene started talking when suddenly Clement protested.

“Hey…” He spoke up in a low tone which shut up as soon as Irene glared at him.

“What? Do you want to argue with me now?” She scoffed and he shook his head at her negativity.

“No.” He mumbled under his breath.

“Good, that’s what I expected.” Irene rolled her eyes at him before looking back at Dominic.

“And what I was telling? Yeah, right. What’s wrong with her and your mate bond, right? It’s nothing much. Derrick did magic on her and kind of stole the mate bond from you. He blocked it for you and used it on him by magic.” She exclaimed and everyone looked at her in shock.

“Is that possible by magic?!” Clement asked in shock and disbelief.

“Yes, isn’t magic fucking amazing?!” She asked with a smirk.

“How can we stop or break the magic now?” Dominic asked, not letting them start their bickering again..

“Well, I know how to do that.” Irene spoke up with a smirk.

“Then what are you waiting for? Do it!” Dominic ordered as always.

“I will do it for you but in one condition.” Irene looked at him with a serious look on his face.

“Are you fucking serious at this point of time!? Weren’t you telling that you want to save her? Where did that go now?! You are seeing your fucking benefit now?” Suzanne shouted in anger and frustration.

She wanted to go and beat the hell out of Irene.

“Don’t use that tone and trick on me, bitch! Because trust me, you won’t like to come on my bad side.

That will be very problematic for you and your little happy life. I hope you know what I am talking about.” Irene snapped back at her which immediately shut her up.

“What the hell is going on?” Nathan asked with a frown, noticing the tension between the women.

“Nothing, just tell me if you are ready to keep my condition.” Irene demanded again while looking at Dominic and he finally let go of everything.

“What is it?” He asked with his jaw clenching and unclenching.

“I know the moment everything is alright, you guys will go crazy after me and try to create problems for me. I don’t want to go through any unnecessary problems. So, the moment I am done here, I will leave the place. I don’t want any of you after me and ruin my peace. I am already in a shit state currently.”

Irene demanded and everyone looked at her in surprise.

Everyone or at least every witch wishes for something valuable or something that might benefit them.

They are selfish in nature. So, everyone was a little shocked when they saw that what she was asking for was her peace.

That’s it!

She was actually unique and that explains why she and Athena were friends.

“I give you my word. No one will bother you.” Dominic spoke up with a serious look on his face and she nodded at him, accepting his promise.

“Alpha, we are losing her…” The doctor’s panicked voice reminded them of their situation and they all became alert while looking at the heart monitor anxiously.

“Fucking do it fast!” Dominic growled while touching her hand tightly.

“I am doing it! I am doing it! Geez!” Irene scowled before walking back to Athena.

She once again did her thing, her magic while touching Athena’s forehead and hands. Dominic was still holding one of his hands. And soon they all looked at the heart monitor and went crazy. They all sighed in relief when they saw her taking a big breath on her own.

“Go and do whatever you want and save her. I hope you know the rest.” Irene said with a wink, immediately earning a glare from Dominic as he walked toward Athena. He held her cold hand and as soon as he touched her, it started to get warmer, making him sigh in relief.

“Would you like us to close the door?” Irene asked in a teasing tone and just as she finished the sentence, he slammed the door close loudly behind him, making everyone laugh out loud.
