Chapter Thirty-Three
Sinful Attractions
Stephen
I woke up early this morning and gave Luke a call to let him know Trin wouldnât be in today.
Weâd hardly slept last night and I didnât want to disturb her this morning. Iâd checked on her a little while ago and she was still sound asleep.
I leaned over and gave her a gentle kiss, then gave both my babies a soft kiss.
I went downstairs and called Clint and Dave to come over.
Once they got here, we went outside to talk. I didnât want to risk Trinity overhearing and if she did, I knew Iâd be in deep shit.
âSo, whatâs up, man?â Dave asked.
âI think Chadâs been talking.â
âHe said he didnât say anything when he came over,â Clint said.
âI donât believe him. They knew too much, stuff they couldnât possibly know unless someone was talking.â
âRat.â Clint cursed. âWhatâs the plan?â
âLook, donât take this the wrong way, but you need to stay out of this from now on,â Dave cut in. âYouâve got a pregnant wife upstairs and Clint, youâve got a new baby.â
âLet me handle it. Iâll call Barcelona and see whatâs going on.â
âAre you sure, man?â I asked. âI donât want to drag you into this more than necessary.â
âPositive.â He cleared his throat. âSo, what were they saying?â
âThey kept asking which one of us was the last to see him alive. Benji shut them down as soon as they asked. But itâs the first time theyâve implied heâs dead, which makes me wonder what Chad really said.â
We talked a bit more until I saw Trinity coming down the stairs, heading into the kitchen.
âQuiet, I donât want her to know about this yet,â I told them.
âBe careful, man,â Clint warned. âSheâs going to kill you if you keep any more secrets.â
âI know, I know.â
âStephen, did you turn off my alarm?â she asked.
~Shit!~
âHey baby, howâd you sleep?â
âDonât change the subject. I asked you a question.â
âBaby, you needed the sleep.â
âI also needed to work today!â
âDid you though?â I asked. âNeed or ~want~?â
âUgh! Fuck you, Stephen!â She stormed off.
~Whoa!~ Where did that come from?
Clint and Dave burst out laughing.
âHowâd you still end up in the doghouse?â Clint joked.
âFuck, man, I have no idea.â
The guys laughed again and lit up as I flipped them off and went inside to find my wife.
I found her leaning over the kitchen counter waiting for the kettle. I walked over and started rubbing her back, half expecting her to push me away.
I didnât say anything for a moment. I just massaged her hips and back while she waited for her tea.
I reached around and started rubbing her belly, leaning forward to kiss her shoulders. âIâm sorry, baby.â
âIâm sorry too,â she sighed. âI was rude.â
I wrapped my arms around the top of her bump and pulled her against me, her back pressed into my chest as I rested my head on her shoulder.
âWant to talk about it?â
âNo baby, weâre good. I just woke up surprised because I didnât hear my alarm and I reacted like an asshole, thatâs all.â
âIf it makes you feel any better, youâre my favorite asshole.â
She slapped me on the arm and turned to look at me as I smirked at her. She brought her hand up to stroke my cheek and pulled my lips to hers. We kissed softly until the kettle whistled.
âGo sit down, baby,â I told her. âIâll finish making this and bring it out.â
âThank you, darling.â
I watched as she went outside and the guys got up to hug her.
I brought her tea out and we all sat around talking for a bit. The guys were great, they didnât mention anything from yesterday to alarm her and I could see she was starting to relax again.
Clint had to leave to help Mia with William and Dave was heading over to Montague to get some stuff done.
âBabe, how about we go shopping today and get the last things for the nursery if you feel up to it? If not, we can just browse and order online?â
âThat sounds good, actually. I feel like my legs could use a stretch.â
âIâve been thinking the same thing for years, shorty.â
âHey! I resent that!â
We both laughed and I helped her up so we could get dressed and head out.

Weâd been out for a few hours and picked out everything we liked for the nursery. I was standing in line waiting to order some food when my phone rang.
âHey, bro.â
âCall Benji,â Clint said. âLooks like itâs my turn to dance with our favorite detective.â
âHeâs there now?â
âYeah. Same routine he pulled on you yesterday.â
âGot it. Iâll call him now, and weâll head over to help Mia with William. Call me when youâre out if you need a ride.â
âTalk later, bro.â
I hung up and dialed Benji.
âTwo days in a row, Stephen? Didnât you have enough fun yesterday?â
âHa, not for me today, mate. Theyâre pulling the same routine on Clint now.â
âIâm on my way.â
âThanks, Benji.â
I hung up and got our food before heading back to my wife. I decided Iâd better tell her this or sheâd definitely have my balls for earrings.
âBaby, we need to take our food to go. Weâre going to head over to Mia and Clintâs.â
âOkay, why?â
âDetective Peters has taken Clint down to the station.â
âOh my God, is Mia okay?â
âSheâs okay, sweetheart. I just got off the phone with Clint. I asked Benji to meet him there.â
âHelp me up, darling. Letâs get moving,â she says, extending her hands.
I assist her to her feet, guide her to the car, and we make our way to Miaâs place.

The day unfolds much like the one before, and after a few hours, I receive a text from Clint. Benji is bringing him back.
Weâre all gathered in the living room when Clint and Benji walk in.
âWe really need to stop running into each other like this, huh? Although, I donât think weâve met before?â
I chuckle as Benji tries to charm my wife. âBack off, asshole. Thatâs my wife youâre talking to.â
âReally? Your wife? Youâre batting way out of your league, arenât you?â
Trinity grins gently as she attempts to stand. I help her up and she walks over to shake Benjiâs hand.
âBaked, not fried, right?â he teases, pointing to her belly and winking at her.
Trinity laughs. âIt sure feels like it. Iâm Trinity. Nice to meet you, Benji.â
âLikewise. If you ever get tired of this jerk, give me a call.â
âDream on,â I retort.
âWhenâs the big day? Any day now?â
âActually, weâve still got about two months. Theyâre twins,â I say, beaming with pride.
âWow! Look at you, double trouble.â
We all laugh again at this audacious guy.
âSo, whatâs the verdict?â I finally ask.
âNot much, really. Same drill as you. But I think heâs hiding something. He keeps mentioning this agent as if heâs dead.â
âWhat?â Trinity asks.
âDamn, sorry. Your wife didnât know?â
âOh, I know,â she replies. âBut whatâs this about the deceased?â
âTheyâre looking into the disappearance of a special agent from the DEA. Our detective friend seems to think that this Special Agent Suarez is dead and that someone linked to these two was the last to see him alive.â
âOf course, itâs all conjecture from an overzealous detective. Thereâs not much substance to the investigation. Nothing to worry about, really,â he assures us.
âWell,â Benji claps his hands together, âI need to head out. Iâve got a trial tomorrow.â
âThanks, Benji.â
âThanks, Benji,â Clint echoes. âIâd say see you soon, but hopefully not.â
âLadies, it was a pleasure,â Benji tips his head.
âBye, Benji,â Mia says.
âNice meeting you.â
I watch as Benji exits and I brace myselfâ¦

Trinity turns to me, hands on her hips.
âSo, when you assured me last night that everything was fine, did you plan on mentioning that heâs now talking as if Mikeâs dead?â
~And there it is.~
