Chapter 17

Noah Black

Last night had been chaotic in a way because everything was just confirmed and finished, just like that. Now I knew that Samantha and I were mates and that we had to accept it. Well, we didn’t have to but that was the right choice if we wanted a good life. And I did accept it. I just didn’t know what to think now; I was confused.

How could all my coldness and hatred for Samantha go away just like that exactly the moment Mason confirmed our connection? I knew I had never hated her for real, from the bottom of my heart, but I had still hated and always had a problem with her and now it was gone. I didn’t have any problem with her being my mate. I knew she was an amazing person and the bonus: she was beautiful and extremely sexy, too.

Yes, I still thought about those things in a situation like this. It was just too hard to miss and now I knew why I didn’t want her with any other guy. I was protective of her; my wolf was protective of her. I wanted her safe and mine, nothing else. I just didn’t know how I would get used to having those feelings and when I’d actually stop getting surprised whenever they came.

So we were mates. That was said and done.

But we weren’t telling anyone. The only persons who could know were Mason and Arianna. If I could choose, Arianna wouldn’t be in and so wouldn’t my brother but since he was the one who gave us the answer and since Arianna knew everything and was Samantha’s best friend and cousin, I agreed on it, for Sam.

I’ll be honest, it was weird as fuck. Whenever I thought about Samantha, I thought about the mate thing and whenever I thought about the mate thing, I thought about the love that was included and I felt weird at the thought it. At the thought of me and Samantha with the word love. Hate had been the word all along and now suddenly everything switched places, everything turned around, and everything changed.

But now I knew I didn’t want to treat her badly in any way. We were both new to this, to us, and of course it would take some time getting used to it and being together, but I was going to treat her good, alone or in public. Whenever I thought about that wild kiss we had just a few days ago, lust filled my entire being and I couldn’t wait for the day when that would happen again.

I got up, showered and got dressed in dark jeans and a white t-shirt. I left my hair to air dry and walked over to the window, squinting out. It was sunny today, really sunny. My eyes wandered down to two figures, half sitting and half lying on the chairs in front of Arianna’s house. Arianna and Samantha.

Good, I could go down.

See. That felt weird. I wanted to go down and “hang out” with Sam and Arianna. And, before this, I would never even dream of doing that. Instead I’d probably go pick some girl and be with her all day. Now I didn’t have to and didn’t wantto anymore because I had a girl now, a mate, and I was sticking to her.

I chuckled. If only my dad and Uncle Bill knew about this and about the way I was thinking about Samantha now.

I put on my shoes and went outside, greeted by the warm sun on my skin. I hadn’t thought about bringing a new girl over ever since that wild kiss, which was a few days ago. That kind of freaked me out but I was still having a good feeling – and kind of smug and proud – that I knew I didn’t have to because I already had one.

I ignored my thoughts because they were all over the place and led to new thoughts that led to even more thoughts and I was not feeling it right now. I walked over to the girls. Samantha was wearing shorts and her long tanned legs looked, as always, so tempting. After seeing her in that black dress, I knew that her legs were my number one weakness and it pretty much made me want to take her up to my room and have her all for myself.

“You do remember that we have that meeting tonight, right?” I asked, getting both their attention. I noticed that Arianna was grinning as she was staring at me and Samantha, smiling a little. Samantha gave me a sideway smile, opening her eyes.

“Yes, I do.”

I smirked and sat down on the chair behind her. She had her hair up in a bun; my favorite look on a girl. Why did she have to be so powerful when it came to this? One look at her and she had me jumping out of my skin. I did it every time, even when I didn’t know we were mates but I just never acted on it. Now I could, if I wanted to. Oh what a great feeling.

Samantha Riley

He was looking as good as always in his usual look but this time his hair was wet and that look on him was… simply sexy. He sat down on the chair behind me and I immediately felt his eyes on me. I was weird but I blamed everything new on the “mating process.”

“What time is the meeting again?” I asked, just to have something to say. I felt awkward and I didn’t want to so I had to break the silence and get the mood light and relaxed and normal.

“No idea,” Noah said behind me. Eh, no surprise there. I shrugged.

“Oh well.”

“Oh well hello you guys!” Mason said, walking up to us with his mate on his side. He was smirking because he knew that all four of us knew about me and Noah. I glared at him.

“Hi,” I said. Arianna said hi and Noah stayed quiet as always. Mason gave me a knowing smile and asked what was up. “We’re relaxing,” I answered. “Nothing much.”

“Well how nice. I’ll be inside with Chelsea then.” He smirked at me again and then at Noah and left. I turned to Noah.

“Did he plan to do that?” I asked him.

“Probably,” Noah said. “Should we kill him?”

I nodded. “Then we’ll bury him here somewhere, right next to the house. We’ll say he had an accident.”

“I like the way you think.”

“And I am scared by the way you think,” Arianna said, eyes wide. Noah and I chuckled – another new thing. He never hung out or chuckled with any of us – but Arianna still stared at us. “Maybe I should just leave… so you don’t kill me, too?”

I just continued laughing, shaking my head at her. “Poor you.”

“Oh, hey Tyler,” Arianna said, looking behind me. I looked to my right, only to see Tyler walking out from my house. He waved once quickly.

“Hey.” He held his eyes extra long on me and Noah and then looked away, walking over to us. He stood in front of us, hands in his pockets. “What are you guys doing?”

“Not much,” I said, shrugging. “We’re just sitting here, taking it easy. You can join if you want to?”

“No thanks. I’m going to go into town for a while. Hey Noah.” He head nodded once, as a “hello.” I turned just in time to see Noah do the same with his head. “Do you need anything from town?” Tyler asked, his eyes only on me. I smiled a little, shaking my head.

“No thank you. Are you sure you don’t want to sit here with us instead of being alone?” I asked.

“Yes, I’m sure.” He smiled. “I’ll be off then. I’ll see you guys later. Bye Sam.”

I mumbled a “bye” and stared after him as he left. I turned to Arianna and Noah.

“’Bye Sam’?” No “Bye Arianna” or “Bye Noah”? And did you see how he was staring at me? That’s exactly what I meant earlier,” I said as I looked at Arianna.

“Is he bothering you?” Noah asked, frowning.

“Aw… new love,” Arianna said with a smile, her hand over her heart. Noah and I snapped our heads to her, glaring. Her hand dropped. “Heh… sorry.”

“No, he’s not bothering me,” I answered Noah’s question. “But he’s acting weird. Since that… night, you know. On our date.”

Noah smirked. “Oh Iknow,” he said. I punched him lightly and he chuckled. “Well, if he does bother you, tell me.”

A few hours later, I was home, chilling on my couch in the empty house when Jacob barged in, looking stressed as hell. Hands in his hair, he marched in to the living room.

“Sam, I need your help!” he said. I sat up, worry building up.

“What? What’s going on?” I asked.

“You know… that new girl? The red head that came with Warren?”

“Yes?”

“Well, I went with my dad to show them around town today. Last night after the barbeque, we drove over there because one of the guys had forgotten his jacket and my dad wanted to be nice and give it back immediately, so I went with him. That night, we hung out all the time while I was there, you know just talking and all, and today in town, when we met and I shook hands with everybody, her stood out the most and it was this weird feeling, you know? I thought, this is way too fast, come on Jacob, but the way we connected today, it was amazing and I just couldn’t get her out of my head! I don’t know if-“

“JACOB!” I yelled. He stopped, staring at me. “You are talking like Arianna right now and I’m not feeling it for the moment so chill. Just take it easy and relax. Hang out with her a bit more, don’t jump to conclusions already. It’s been two times only.”

“Okay… yeah, you’re right. Thanks. I panicked.”

“Don’t,” I said, laughing. “Just relax and be yourself and you’ll find out eventually.”

He thanked me again and left. See? He immediately guessed that they could be mates while Noah and I had been denying over and over again. Or at least, I had. I had not understood at first and then I refused to believe it and for Jacob, it came right away.

I sighed. Why was I always so complicated in some things? I wasn’t perfect, I knew that, but I hated the fact that I wasn’t as strong in some things that I was in other things. I decided to go get ready for the meeting and push my thoughts away for a while.

I changed into a pair of skinny jeans, left my plaid shirt on and left my hair the same as it was. I had already added a bit of mascara and blush this morning, so I didn’t need anything there. I tried to find something to do very slowly so that the time would go by already. I didn’t want to be alone because if I was, all I did was think and I had been thinking too much these past weeks. I needed a break from my brain and from all the surprises and shocking news and all those stuff that made my brain work all the time.

My cell started ringing and I walked over to my bed where it was. The screen said Dad and I immediately picked up.

“Hey, dad,” I said, putting the phone to my ear.

“Hey, Sammy, what’re you doing?” he asked.

“I just got ready for the meeting. I don’t have much to do right now. Where are you?”

“Okay. I’m in the car right now, on my way to pick you and Noah up. Your Uncle John is already at the lake house but I have to make another stop before I pick you up so it might take another hour. I’ll be there before six o’clock though.”

“Okay, dad,” I said, glancing at the clock. It was three thirty. I sighed to myself. “Bye.”

“Bye, sweetie. Call if there is anything!”

I put down the phone and just as I laid down on my bed, the door bell rang. I groaned as I pushed myself up and went down the stairs.

“Coming!” I said, walking over to the door. I opened it, feeling Mason’s scent immediately. I smiled. “Hi, funny one,” I said sarcastically. He chuckled as I let him walk in.

“Am I interrupting something?” he asked, still smiling.

“Nope, please come inside and tell me what’s on your heart.”

He chuckled again and followed me to the kitchen. We sat down and I was practically lying on the table with my arms everywhere and my head down. I looked up at Mason.

“So what’s up?” I asked.

“Not much. I wanted to see how things were going.”
