What's That Supposed To Mean? - Werewolf Romance
Chapter 22
It was already late at night and we still hadn't heard from them. Some of the women from the pack shifted a few times an hour to see if they were making any contact, but no, nothing.
All the women who were mated to men in the pack waited anxiously, some by doors, some by windows, some by phones and some in wolf-forms. It wasn't like they were going to die. Because they weren't. I wasn't going to wait in vain for someone to die. No, I had to go.
I went upstairs in my room, knowing that everyone were too distracted to know what I was doing. I just hoped Arianna wouldn't that I was gone until long but with her, you never knew. I put on clean clothes and packed a bag with another set of clean clothes and shoes. I opened my window and looking down â my house had two âsmall storeys,â so it wasn't that long down â I took a deep breath, trusted my werewolf strength and balance and jumped.
I shut my eyes, hearing a deep thud as my feet touched the ground. Just like a cat, I thought grinning for myself. Then I shifted as soon as I could, grabbed my bag in my mouth and with one last look at the house, I was off.
I ran as fast as I could, smelling my pack everywhere. I had to hurry so that I could catch up with their smell. So far so good, I felt it everywhere but eventually it would slowly go away and I couldn't risk that. I had to run my fastest non-stop.
While running, I noticed a difference. A smell, a presence. I wondered if I should stop or not and after a few seconds decided to stop. I had to know who it was or I could either be in big trouble or lead that person to my pack and get them in trouble with me.
I growled out loud, not in a bad way, just letting the werewolf know that I wanted him or her to come out. I had no time to just stand here and wait.
A wolf stepped out, the size of a female wolf and my brain immediately registered who it was. What the hell did Arianna come after me for? What the heck had she done? Gosh. Now I had another thing to worry about. As much as I loved her and would want nothing than her with me, I wasn't sure if she could handle the war we were going into. I knew I was, because I loved it and grew up like that but she had always been delicate even though she could fight very good. We had to know how to fight, whether we wanted it or not.
I growled once at her, letting her know it was stupid to follow me but there was nothing we could do now since we'd come so far and I knew she wasn't going back. She just gave me a wolfish grin and I sighed, nodding with my head once before starting to run again.
I smiled when she caught up with me and ran by my side. I could still feel my pack a little but it was slowly fading. I had to keep my nose alert all the time, I couldn't risk loosing them.
Suddenly, halting to a stop, both me and Arianna, we saw a quick flash of a werewolf some feet away. I immediately knew that it was from my pack and, thanking everything and everyone, I ran after with Arianna beside me. But we had to be quiet and careful; they couldn't know we were here.
Six hours later, somewhere really far away, we had finally really caught up with them. We kept ourselves a few feet behind and since they were so many, I don't think anyone noticed any difference or someone else. After all, we were all the same pack. Unless they felt that it was danger, they didn't stop. But sometimes you could feel the difference between a male and a female, but anyways.
The pack seemed to stop for a while, all of them shifting into their human forms. Arianna and I shifted as well and sat down by a big tree, breathing hard.
âArianna!â I hissed, finally being able to speak to her. âWhy did you follow me? Do you know how dangerous that is?â
âI'm sorry!â she said in a whisper. âBut I saw you go and I just had to come with you. First, I wasn't leaving you alone to go and do whatever your weird mind had planned and second, I want to do something, too!â
âBut, Arianna-â
âNo buts, Sam! Imagine what Noah would say if you were me and he was you.â
He'd say the same thing, I thought with a sigh. And a bunch of other things.
Arianna looked at me knowingly, knowing I understood her point and I raised my hands in defeat. I leaned back against the tree, looking over my shoulder. They were resting, drinking water, preparing to run another six hours again. Probably some more planning.
âI hope we win this,â Arianna muttered.
âWe will,â I said, more to myself than to her. âWe will.â
Noah Black
We were taking a quick break to take something to eat so we wouldn't be distracted and then we would continue to run. We weren't far away from the other pack now, we could all sense and smell it. I felt Samantha's scent, though, all the time. I suspected something first but she was at home, waiting, of course. It was probably her hug still lingering on my shirt and on my skin. I wanted this thing, this war or whatever, over-with as soon as possible so I could go back to her and make sure nothing or no one touched her.
âNoah, toss me that bread, will you?â Mason said in my head, snapping me out of my private thoughts. I looked down at the bread in my hand and nodded, throwing it to him with my nose. He ripped a big piece of bread from it before tossing it to Jacob.
âOkay, time to hurry,â my dad suddenly announced to the pack in our heads. Everyone chewed their breads quickly and we were off again.
This pack was going down, whether they wanted it or not, whether they fought or not and whether they cared or not. Attacking my pack? This wasn't good nor was it acceptable. I was the soon to be Alpha and I didn't want to deal with this as soon as I became the Alpha. That's no fun.
I decided to check up on Sam.
âSam?â I called out, closing everyone else out.
âNoah? Is something wrong?â
âNo.â I chuckled in my head. âI just wanted to hear your voice. How's everything there?â
âUm... Good. It's depressing, you know?â
I sighed, wishing this was over. I just wanted to go back to her.
âI know. We'll be back soon, don't worry.â
âI know.â
I smiled, practically hearing her beautiful smile that came with that beautiful voice.
Samantha Riley
âI know,â I said through mind-link, smiling. I missed him already. But he couldn't know or suspect that I was anywhere else than at home. If he knew this, he'd find me, yell at me, get me back home and leave again, angry. I wasn't having that. Besides, I wanted to help. He couldn't do anything about that.
âI'll talk to you later, okay? Be careful. Tell everyone we're good for now. They've probably already talked to their mates, though, it's really good talking here. I can hear you really well.â
Because I'm just a few feet away from you.
âReally? That's good, I'll go talk to them and see. Be careful, Noah.â
âI will, Sam.â
End of mind-link. I sighed, not slowing down as Ari and I were running. She gave me a quick glance of sympathy. I hated lying to him but I had to.
We were back on track, though and I knew we were close. This had to be it; I was starting to feel another werewolf scent, a different pack. A powerful one. All I hoped was that we would get out of this alive.
An hour later, we had finally arrived and it looked like they weren't wasting any time. They ran straight in to the other packs territory which seemed to be very prepared. They were there, waiting and attacked as soon as my pack attacked. The war had officially begun.
Arianna and I both flinched as we wideeyed looked how the werewolves were attacking each other. We decided that we would jump in if someone from our pack was in need of help and we would be discreet. Jump in, help and jump out, that was our plan. No one could see us, especially my dad or Noah or Mason.
A loud yelp caught our attention and I immediately jumped in, running straight to the source. I knew who was in my pack and who wasn't so it was easy for me to attack the enemy from behind, let my ally go and then jump back out before the enemy caught me. Arianna and I took turns to do it and it went really good. So far, no one had recognized us as females. They were too busy fighting and even if they looked at us quickly, they probably didn't pay any attention to it seeing as we were supposed to stay home. My eyes searched for my father and the Blacks, my mate included in that. I had to make sure none of them got hurt, especially Uncle J and my dad. They were older and even if they were in a way stronger, they were weaker too. I had to keep an eye on them but knowing Mason, he was probably, too.
Another yelp caught my attention and I glanced at Arianna before jumping in and repeating our plan. Just as I turned to run back to Arianna, I was attacked from behind by a huge werewolf. Not the plan exactly.
I had hoped this wouldn't happen but what can I say? Luck wasn't always on my side.
I tried to roll us over but he was so strong. I caught Arianna's eyes behind the big bushes somehow and they were filled with panic. I tried to yell to her over mind-link that I was fine and that she should run in case someone saw her. She protested and shouted things at me but I cut her off; it distracted me and I had to fight this humongous idiot off.
I finally managed to roll us over and then bit his neck but he got control again and bit my leg. I kept myself quiet, trying not to let out a whine or anything. That would get Noah's attention imme-diat-ely. And that was no good. I'd rather have this idiot kill me now instead of Noah finding me here.
The light haired wolf on top of me refused to let me go, which I understand, but it was getting really annoying and painful. He was fat, dammit! I tried to bite him again, anywhere, but he managed to squirm away from my teeth which annoyed me even more. I continued chasing his tail, knowing that one would hurt. He seemed to understand what I was doing and protected his behind very well. The war behind us was loud and chaotic. I wanted so badly to just look after my dad and Uncle John but if I looked away for a split second, this wolf would eat me up. I had to concentrate. Suddenly, he lounged at me, mouth open. In that small second, I was debating whether I should jump aside or bite him back when he bit me but before I managed to do any of them, a werewolf attacked him from the side, saving my life. But I knew I was screwed as soon as I saw the wolf.
Jacob.
