Chapter 100
Bride Behind The Mask
Laverne took Yunaâs hand and strolled out. She then stopped and said to Chuck with a casual tone, âHey, Chuck, come with us!â
Chuck couldnât just leave Laverne in Yunaâs hands. He had a hunch that Yuna might be playing nice with Laverne, so he accepted it and tagged along.
Soon the villa fell into an eerie silence.
Marguerite stood alone in the middle of the living room. The opulence of the massive house made her figure look even more lonesome.
Neither Frederick nor her grandma glanced at her when they left. She felt like a small fry that everyone overlooked.
At that moment, Sadie descended from upstairs with a neatly folded bathrobe and towel. She related Margueriteâs bad mood to her quarrel with Mr. Winston the night before.
She stopped beside Marguerite and asked tentatively. âMiss Lockwood, Mr. Winston is at the estateâs pool. Maybe you should go see him?â
Marguerite snapped back to reality. She bypassed Sadie and headed for the stairs, âNo need.â
âMiss Lockwood!â Sadie called out to Marguerite in a sincere tone, âHave you ever wondered why Mr.
Winston is upset?â
Marguerite stopped, turned around, and gave her a wry smile, âDoes that need a reason?â
Sadie sighed and shoved the bathrobe into Margueriteâs arms.
âMiss Lockwood, youâve been living with Mr. Winston for almost a month. Havenât you noticed he might⦠kinda into you?â
Margueriteâs pupils dilated in surprise, then she immediately dismissed it, âImpossible! He thinks I have ulterior motives and only feels disgust towards me.â
âMiss Lockwood, I admit Mr. Winston hated you in the beginning. But people change. Canât you see how drastically his attitude has changed? Canât you tell heâs jealous?â
Jealous? Jealous of Steven?
Marguerite clutched the bathrobe and shook her head violently. âThatâs just his possessiveness.â
âIf he didnât care at all, why would he be so possessive?â Sadie frowned, âMiss Lockwood, as an outsider, I can see things clearly.
Letâs say Mr. Winston really does hate you. The truth is you wonât be able to divorce until two months later. You donât want to live a crappy life for those two months, do you?
So Miss Lockwood, swallowing your pride sometimes doesnât mean you lose your dignity. Itâs just to make your upcoming days a bit easier. Sweetâtalk him, act a bit coquettish, if Mr. Winston is happy, youâll have an easier time too.â
Marguerite had nothing to say; she could only choose to compromise.
It was not Margueriteâs place to probe into Frederickâs true thoughts about her.
But Sadie was right, she still had two months before she could divorce Frederick. Since they had to live together, she needed to take a step back.
After musing for a second, Marguerite can only agree, âLead the way to the pool. Iâll go see him.â
Hearing this, Sadie immediately brightened up and hurried to escort Marguerite to the pool.
The pool was located at the top level of the gym, an openâair facility.
By the time they arrived, Frederick had already swum quite a few laps and was taking a break in the middle of the pool.
He was only wearing swimming trunks so his entire body was exposed under the sun.
Droplets of water flickered on Frederickâs muscles under the sunlight, catching Margueriteâs eyes.
He really had a great body.
Broad shoulders, a firm chest, and eightâpack abs like a fitness trainer, were all exuding a strong masculine power.
Seeing this, Marguerite couldnât help but blush. Her breathing also got labored.
Not daring to look any longer, she quickly averted her gaze.
Sadie, however, sneakily nudged Marguerite and handed her a bottle of sports drink from the table, whispering, âMiss Lockwood, Mr. Winston needs to replenish his energy. Call him out of the water.â
Marguerite was so nervous that her legs were filled with lead. She couldnât move.
Seeing this, Sadie simply called out loudly, âMr. Winston, Miss Lockwood is here to see you!â
Frederick slowly opened his eyes in the pool and landed his gaze softly on Marguerite.
Sadie was busy poking Margueriteâs waist and whispering, âMiss Lockwood, Mr. Winston is looking at you. You should at least say something!â
The blush on Margueriteâs face deepened and reached her ears. She bit her lip. Her shy but gentle expression was deeply captured in Frederickâs sight. Finally, Marguerite, like a child who made a mistake, took a deep breath and raised her shy eyes. She bit her lips and stuttered.
âUm⦠do you want to come up and take a break?â
