Chapter 136
Bride Behind The Mask
Marguerite stepped out of the villa with nothing but the clothes on her back. She spent her last hundred bucks on the cab ride back. Luckily, Miley had just returned home, offering her a temporary place to crash.
Miley had just stepped out of the bath, with her hair wrapped in a white towel. When she opened the door to find Marguerite standing there, looking like a refugee, she was shocked. âWhat the hell happened to you? Why are you dressed like a ragamuffin, and is that blood on your clothes? Did someone hurt you? Was it Yuna? That makes my blood boil! How could Mr. Winston let her get away with this?!â
Marguerite said weakly, âMiley, can we talk inside? Iâm beat.â
Miley quickly ushered Marguerite in and fetched her a set of PJs. âGet out of those clothes.â
Marguerite changed and emerged from the bedroom to find Miley with a first aid kit, waiting on the couch.
âMiley, is it okay if I crash here for a few days?â She felt a bit awkward asking for another favor.
âStay as long as you need!â
Miley took out an alcohol swab and started cleaning Margueriteâs wounds, then it hit her. âWait, wonât Mr. Winston come looking for you?â
Marguerite gave a bitter smile. âHe found out Iâm pregnant, so he kicked me out. I guess thatâs it for us.â
Mileyâs jaw dropped. âWhat the hell?â
Marguerite sighed, looking pale and exhausted, but patiently explained everything that had happened at the party.
As Miley patched Margueriteâs knee, she sat crossâlegged on the couch, deep in thought. Suddenly, she grabbed Margueriteâs wrist. âWho else knows about your pregnancy?â
âJust you and me,â Marguerite replied without hesitation, then remembered. âWait! My grandmaâs doctor knows! He was the one who told me.â
Miley immediately said, âCall him! Put it on speaker!â
Marguerite was puzzled by Mileyâs anger. Did Miley think Steven was the one who leaked her medical report? Yes, she did see Steven at the party, but they had no beef, so why would he do that?
It took a while for Steven to answer. Marguerite hesitated before speaking, âSteven, Iâm sorry for calling this late, are you asleep? I need to ask you something.â
âNo, there was an issue at the party. Mr. Powell from the Winston family had a heart attack, so Iâve been trying to save him.â
This news hit Marguerite like a bolt of lightning. A wave of guilt immediately engulfed her.
Powell had a heart attack? How could this have happened?
It was all her fault! If it hadnât been for the news of her pregnancy, Mr. Powell wouldnât have had a heart attack.
No wonder Frederick was so furious, this chaos was all because of her. It was all her fault!
