Chapter 251
Bride Behind The Mask
With a heavy heart, Laverne let her tears fall. Just the thought of that dreadful day when Yuna mercilessly injected her with unknown substances was enough to make her shudder But Yuna was far from moved by Laverneâs anguish, When all secrets were laid bare and exposed, all Yuna could think of was fear. Fear was all that was left.
Frantically, Yuna searched for her cell phone, turning the hospital room upside down.
âWhereâs my phoneâ¦. my phoneâ¦. wait, you old witch, Iâm calling my parents right now! I swear Iâll make you pay, you and Margueriteâ¦â
Her incessant rambling was, to some extent, disturbing. Laverne, though, found lier heart growing colder and colder.
Laverne took a deep breath, straightened up, wiped her tears, and spoke with grave seriousness, âChuck is right outside. If I call for him, hel, be here in a heartbeat. Now tell me, who do you think is faster, Ablett or Chuck?â
Yuna froze, rooted to the spot.
She turned to look at Laverne, her face a mess of tears and snot, a pitiful sight to behold.
As if under some sort of spell, she suddenly threw herself at Laverneâs feet, pleading desperately, âGranny, I beg you, please donât tell Freddie. I die, really will! Iâm sorry, Granny, I should never have hurt you! I apologize, Iâll do anything, anything you want. What do you want?â
As she spoke, she knocked her forehead on the floor with such force that it echoed through the room, Seeing her like this, Laverne felt a heartbreaking pain. Yuna was her granddaughter too, after all. How had she become like this?
She couldnât bear to see this. She gently helped Yuna up from the floor. âMy dear child, listen to your granny. Stop this. Apologize to Marguerite, tell the truth. Freddie wonât harm you.â
Her words, though spoken with nothing but gentle persuasion, seemed to only fuel Yunaâs emotional frenzy.
She gripped Laverneâs shoulders tightly, her eyes blazing, and declared vehemently. âNo way! I canât, I wonât tell!â
Laverne, feeling as if she was about to be shaken apart by Yuna, pushed her away with equal determination, leaving no room for compromise.
âSince you refuse, I guess Iâll have to do it.â
âGranny! Granny, please! Iâve reached the end of my rope. I canât tell. I really canâtâ¦â
Yuna started crying again. Laverne looked at her, sighed, and felt a mixture of emotions. It was just a pity.
âYou should know that thereâs a difference between confessing on your own and having someone else expose you.â
âNo⦠no⦠Granny, I beg youâ¦â
Yuna shook her head in desperation, continuously playing the emotional card.
But Laverneâs resolve had turned rock-solid, following Yunaâs repeated transgressions.
Giving Yuna one last look, Laverne resolutely walked towards the door and said, âIâll give you two days to think it over.â
Laverneâs tone was that of an ultimatum, but also seemed to offer one last opportunity.
Whether Yuna seized this chance or not was entirely up to herself.
