Chapter 423
Bride Behind The Mask
Marrying on the same day? Marguerite was utterly baffled.
Werenât they discussing things about the corporation? How did it suddenly veer onto marriage?
Marguerite had always been insightful. She could see that Powell was trying to curry favor with Frederick, but his approach was off, making Frederick even more resistant.
Setting aside the idea of a corporate merger, merely the notion of both brothers getting married on the same day made Marguerite think Powell had lost his marbles.
The incident she had with the Winston Group brothers was a hot topic in high society.
Moreover, she and Yuna were identical twins. If they really have the weddings on the same day, people might have unpleasant things to say. Whatâs more, she could never marry Maurice!
Just as Marguerite was about to refuse, Yuna on the opposite side nodded eagerly and agreed, âAlright, alright, I have no objections!â
Lisette rolled her eyes at Yuna in disgust, then cast a contemptuous glance at Marguerite, mockingly saying.â They look exactly alike, who would know whoâs marrying who? I think you just want to stir up more drama!â
At this point, Maurice gently took Margueriteâs hand and said calmly. âWe donât have do it together.
However, Marguerite and I do have plans to get married. The wedding will be as soon as next month.â
Frederick paused in swirling his wine glass, his gaze fixated on Maurice holding Margueriteâs hand.
A tiny jolt of panic hit Margueriteâs heart. She was afraid that Frederick would misunderstand and instinctively pulled her hand from Mauriceâs.
Damn it! He did it on purpose!
He knew she wouldnât marry him, and now heâs using the familyâs power to pressure her?
Marguerite was extremely displeased, but before she could deny it, she heard Lisetteâs furious voice, âDid you ever ask for my opinion before deciding to marry Marguerite? How could you reject a wealthy heiress for some slut whoâs seduced you?â
A slut? Even with Margueriteâs usually calm demeanor, she couldnât hold back anymore..
âI didnât seduce him. Your son insisted on marrying me. Since youâre not happy about it, itâs perfect. I can reject him outright.â
Upon hearing this, Frederick arched his eyebrows, silently putting down his silver fork, and watched Marguerite with a relaxed posture.
Unexpectedly, this woman who used to endure in silence was now standing up for herself.
Lisette was so angry that her teeth were grinding together, âIf anyone is to refuse, it should be him!
What right do you, a woman that no one else wants, have toâ¦â
Powellâs face changed drastically, throwing down his cutlery in anger, silencing everyone in the room.
Powell was finally furious. His face was ashen, his eyes were wide open, and his face was twisted with anger. He impatiently smacked the table, âDo you have any sense? Can you speak properly? The kids are finally home for once, and youâve ruined it.â
Lisette probably didnât expect Powell to lose his temper at her in front of everyone.
She was a bit embarrassed, even though she tried to hide it behind her stubbornness, âAnyway⦠I donât agree with this marriage!â
Marguerite was somewhat surprised by Powellâs firmness. Because initially, the Winston Group was established with the help of Lisetteâs family. And as a son-in-law, Powell had no say in anything, let alone to lose his temper at Lisette.
But this situation changed dramatically after Frederickâs departure.
With Frederick gone, Lisette was eager to merge her familyâs corporation with the Winston Group to strengthen Mauriceâs power.
Unfortunately, soon after the merger, Lisetteâs parents passed away.
Without the support of her family, Powell naturally became more assertive.
Jocelyn, who was tired of the quarrels, once again stepped in to mediate, reaching out to soothe Powellâs agitated chest.
âCalm down. The kids are still young; thereâs no rush to get married.â
âHow can we not rush? They already have children; they should be married by now!â
Having a child doesnât necessarily mean they have to get married. When Jocelyn had Powellâs child, he didnât marry her either, did he?
Marguerite thought to herself, a hint of sarcasm appearing at the corner of her mouth.
But her gaze inadvertently met Frederickâs, and she saw an unexpected look of admiration and delight in his eyes!
