Chapter 463
Bride Behind The Mask
Frederickâs eyes flickered with an unusual glint. He suspected that Margueriteâs recent closeness to his mother meant that his mother was likely the source of whatever was on her mind.
Silence hung in the air for a long while, his expression of shock slowly morphing into one of anger, his voice icy and distinctly displeased, âWhat exactly are you trying to say?â
Marguerite shed her usual aloof demeanor and flashed him a coquettish smile, âCanât we talk about love? I wanna be cheesy today, so youâd better get used to them.â
Talk about love?
In an instant, his anger was scrambled by her words. He leaned back, arms crossed, tilting his head with a knowing look directed at Marguerite.
What was this woman up to? Absolutely nonsensical!
âIâm not in the mood for love talk right now.â
Margueriteâs eyes widened unconsciously, shamelessly pressing on. âThen Iâll just wait in line. When youâre in the mood, could I be the first you consider?â
Frederick met her gaze with a leisurely air, a smirk playing at the edge of his lips, he countered, âDo you think youâre worthy?â
Marguerite wasnât sure if his smile was mocking or if he found her amusing, but she didnât have the luxury to care. Determined to win him back, she needed to dive in and figure out a plan!
âI may not be worthy, but I think Yuna is even less so.â Margueriteâs eyes were filled with sincere conviction.
âAnd where does your confidence come from? Regardless of Yunaâs shortcomings, at least she gave me twins, Manley and Hayes. What have you left for me?â
Marguerite found herself stumped by Frederickâs question.
Indeed. What had she left for him?
Her betrayal three years ago had left him with countless wounds and resentment.
Even if Yunaâs scheme was beyond Margueriteâs, her misdeeds were tied to Frederick through their children, Manley and Hayes.
And her? What did she have to show? Her passion and earnestness?
Should she recklessly confess to Frederick that she was worried sick about him yesterday, that she had suddenly realized she couldnât bear to lose him?
But obviously, her current fervor was negligible compared to the betrayal she had caused, worthless in comparison.
Upon reflection, she truly had no grounds for comparison to Yuna. But then Marguerite realized there was something she had that Yuna did not-Frederickâs past love.
With resolve, she insisted, âBut youâve never loved her, have you?â
Before they returned to Winston Mansion, Marguerite had no idea how Frederick and Yuna had gotten along.
Yet, observing their interactions over the past few days, she sensed that Frederickâs attitude toward Yuna hadnât improved much since three years ago.
He seemed to disdain Yuna, Marguerite could tell!
Frederick didnât blink, his gaze on Marguerite growing more profound.
Although the womanâs behavior today was extremely unusual, her sharp wit remained undiminished.
Regaining his composure, Frederick, now unaffected by Margueriteâs displays of vulnerability or affection, remained composed.
A mocking smile played on his lips, âIndeed, I donât love her. But just as true, I could never possibly love you.â
