Chapter 497
Bride Behind The Mask
Meanwhile, in the childrenâs bedroom at the grand Winston Estate, Teresa and Hayes were in the thick of an intense video game battle.
âLittle Mute! Head to the storage room! Thereâs loot in the storage room!â
âAw, man! Someoneâs looted the storage already! Thereâs a drop in the southeast! Letâs go for the air drop! Come on out, Little Mute!â
âLittle Mute? Little Mute, come out already! Huh? Why are you just standing there?â
Teresa clutched her phone with both hands, glancing up to see Hayes sprawled at the foot of the bed.
Her gaze fell on Hayesâ phone screen, which had switched to an incoming call interface, prompting a surge of frustration, âUgh-Whoâs calling you at a time like this?â
Hayes, looking guilty, glanced at the call from Yuna, then back at Teresa, and quietly walked onto the balcony to answer.
âHayes! Manleyâs condition is getting worse! Hurry to the hospital! Iâve called a car to the front door;
donât delay!â
The urgency in Yunaâs voice tightened Hayesâ little heart in an instant. The little guy knew what this meant-his mom wanted him to give blood again. But didnât the nice nurse say just yesterday that it was only once a month?
He had come back feeling awful yesterday, and was still not feeling great, so Hayes was a bit scared.
His voice was timid, trembling, âMommy⦠Iâm scaredâ¦â
âHow can you be so thoughtless? Iâm just asking you to give a little blood! But what about Manley?
Manleyâs fighting for his life! Brothers are supposed to help each other out! Donât forget, it was you hogging the nutrients in my belly that made Manley sick!â Suddenly, Hayes felt an overwhelming sense of guilt. His innocent and kind heart even started to believe Mommy had a point. He was giving blood to save Manleyâs life, and right now, Manley must be a hundred times more in pain.
His guilt made him quickly agree to Yunaâs request. He hung up and stepped back inside from the balcony, glancing at Teresa before pointing towards the door:
âIâll be back⦠in a flash!â
âWhere are you going?â Teresa asked, nonchalantly holding her phone.
Hayes felt a bit guilty, replying, âJust going to pick up⦠a medical⦠report.â
Instantly, the words âmedical reportâ put Teresa on high alert. Her mind raced to the image of Little Muteâs arm, covered in needle marks.
She had meant to tell her Mommy and Hayesâ Daddy about it, but she didnât see them coming home all night. And by morning, they had already left.
She thought about sending a text to Mommy, but seeing Hayes looking better, she decided to spend the day playing games with him.
Now, Little Mute said he was going to get a medical report, but he seemed unusually tense!
His brows were furrowed into a tiny, worried knot! It was the face of someone heading to the gallows.
Teresa quit the game and, with a sharp gaze, eyed Hayes, âAre you really just going to pick up a medical report?â
Hayes, too anxious to meet Teresaâs eyes, nodded faintly, âYeah.ââ
âWhen will you be back?â
It only took five minutes for the blood draw yesterday, so it should be the same today.
Including the travel time, he should be home within half an hour.
âHalf an hour⦠Iâll be back.â
âAlright⦠make it quick!â
Hayes nodded and left the room without another word. But Teresa wasnât so easily fooled. As soon as Hayes stepped out, she turned into a little detective, silently trailing behind him.
She saw Hayes leave the estate and get into a sleek black sedan.
She quickly flagged down a taxi and pointed to the black car ahead, âHurry! Follow that car!â
Before long, the two youngsters arrived one after the other at The Atlas Private Hospital.
Hayes was taken to the blood draw area, but today, to his surprise, it wasnât in the aseptic operating room but in a more secluded ward.
The friendly nurse from yesterday was replaced by a taller, imposing man whose mask was tightly fixed, obscuring his face.
