Chapter 498
Bride Behind The Mask
Meanwhile, at the hospitalâs eighth-floor lobby, Teresa was hunkered down behind a massive stand-up advertisement when she saw a tall man emerge from a room at the end of the corridor.
She blinked in surprise..
Why hadnât Hayes come out with him? And this floor seemed unusually quiet, not at all like the bustling activity of patients coming and going for check-ups or reports.
What was going on?
As soon as the man disappeared into the elevator bay, Teresa dashed toward the end of the corridor.
Peeking into the room on tiptoe, she saw a medical screen in the middle of the room, blocking her view.
Could Hayes be behind it?
Tentatively, she tried the door handle and to her relief, found the room unlocked.
With guts bolstered by concern, she stepped inside and was shocked to discover a hospital bed behind the screen!
And there, Hayes lay on it, his complexion deathly pale as an IV dripped into his arm. But why was the fluid in the IV tube red?
Looking up, Teresa realized the bag was hanging upside down!
The bag connected to the IV was swelling, growing larger by the second.
Blood! The bag was filling with Hayesâ blood! Teresa turned pale with fright and rushed over to shake Hayesâ shoulder. âLittle Mute! Little Mute, why are you donating blood? Wake up, please!â
Only silence greeted her. Hayes showed no sign of life!
Unaccustomed to such grave situations, Teresa was at a loss. She couldnât fathom why Hayes would be donating blood!
Without a momentâs hesitation, she yanked the IV out of his arm, clamping her hand over the needle site while her other hand fumbled to dial Frederick.
âHayesâ Daddy, come to the hospital quick! Hayes is donating blood, and he looks so pale and scary.
Please hurry! Weâre at the Atlas Private Hospital! Waaah, Iâm so scared!â
âIâm on my way!â Frederick tossed aside his phone, swerved sharply, and sped toward the hospital.
The sudden swerve nearly sent Marguerite flying into Frederickâs lap, but the seatbelt jerked her back into place.
The next second, the Maybach roared off, with Marguerite watching the speedometer climb, feeling her heart pound in terror.
Turning to Frederick, she saw his expression was more foreboding than storm clouds, a harbinger of an impending tempest.
âWhatâs wrong?â Marguerite clutched her seatbelt tight.
âHayes is in trouble,â replied Frederick.
Her heart rate skyrocketed at the thought.
Although she didnât know the specifics, the sudden surge of anxiety nearly suffocated her.
Hayes must be alright!
After hanging up, Teresa stared at the unconscious Hayes on the bed, tears streaming down her face.
Her hand trembled uncontrollably as she covered the needle site, but thankfully, the bleeding had stopped.
Yet, her palm was smeared with Hayesâ blood-sticky and pungently metallic.
She collapsed over Hayesâ frail body, sobbing uncontrollably, gasping out, âLittle Mute, whatâs happened to you? Please donât scare me. Can you hear me? Please open your eyes and look at me!â
Exhausted by her own cries, she finally fell silent.
Suddenly, she thought she heard the door open.
Had Hayesâ Daddy arrived?
Teresa was about to run out from behind the screen when she was halted by the sound of womenâs voices.
âWe need to speed up the infusion pump, shorten the blood extraction process!â
âI never thought this little bratâs blood would match Manleyâs! His life for Manleyâs, itâs worth it!â
âWhatâs this called? Killing two birds with one stone! Not only does it save Manley, but it also gets rid of that little bastardâ¦â
Their words stopped abruptly. Yuna and Zoe had just rounded the screen, only to find Teresa, her face streaked with tears, glaring at them with furious eyes.
The two women froze, shocked. They never expected to find Teresa, the undesired thorn in their side, here.
How long had this little pest been here? How much had she heard? Damn it! Their conversation must have been overheard by Teresa!
âYou monsters! Youâre all monsters! Youâre using Hayesâ blood to save Manley! And you dare call Hayes a little bastard!â
