Chapter 522
Bride Behind The Mask
As Frederick glanced at his watch. The scene in front of him was so heartwarming that he did not want to interrupt.
But if he let the kids continue their tearful display, it wouldnât just delay the surgery, the real issue was his growing anxiety to get the maternity test results from downstairs.
His bright eyes narrowed slightly as he spoke up to break the silence, âAlright, the surgery isnât as serious as you think. Let Manley go in, and try to stay calm.â
The three little ones let go of each other, Hayes and Teresa still sobbing, tears streaming down their cheeks.
Manley obediently nodded, turning his head back every few steps as he followed the doctors and nurses into the operating room. Frederick was about to leave when he paused, overhearing Margueriteâs soft murmur, âPoor Hayes, he really tugs at my heartstrings.â
Frederick halted, his gaze fixed intently on Marguerite, puzzled.
Marguerite met Frederickâs eyes, sniffled, and gently explained, âI read an article once that said the bond between twins is the deepest in the world. But Hayes has received love and attention far too late.
His life shouldnât have been like this. Thankfully, thereâs still time, and Iâm sure from now on, heâll be happyâ¦
Frederickâs eyes didnât waver as he stared into Margueriteâs, his look meaningful.
âYou seem to have a special interest in my son, huh?â
Realizing she might have overstepped, Marguerite managed a weak smile, her tone carrying an almost imperceptible apology. âIâm sorry.â
He gave her a long look, then quickly said, âIâll be right back,â before hurrying away.
Stepping into the elevator, Frederick glanced at his watch again and raised his eyes, his restless gaze mirroring the unease in his heart.
Turning to Chuck, he couldnât help but blurt out, âDid you ask about the results when the doctor called you?â
Chuck shook his head blankly, his anxiety matching Frederickâs. âMr. Winston, I didnât feel it was my place to ask ahead of time. I thought that you should be the first to know.â
Chuck, attuned to the urgency in his bossâ eyes and knowing the deep hopes harbored in his heart, quickly added, âMr. Winston, to be honest, I think Hayes is Margueriteâs son. Whenever sheâs around Hayes, thereâs this maternal glow about her. Maybe thatâs the so-called mother-child connectionâ¦â
Chuck waited cautiously for Frederickâs reaction.
Unfortunately, Frederickâs response was ambiguous, leaving Chuck unable to decipher his thoughts.
Soon, they arrived at the lab.
A young nurse, masked and waiting, hurriedly handed the sealed test results to Frederick with both hands, respectfully saying, âMr. Winston, here are your test results.â
Suddenly, Frederick hesitated, staring at the envelope as if in a trance, motionless.
Seeing this, Chuck took a deep breath, stepped forward to take the report, and glanced at Frederick nervously.
âMr. Winston, shall I check it for you first?â
Without saying a word, as if braced for the outcome, Frederick snatched the report from Chuckâs hands and opened it immediately.
The report was thick, filled with graphs and data dancing across the pages, but Frederick impatiently flipped to the last page. One sentence stood out starkly.
âThe maternity test results indicate a non-parentage relationship.
