Chapter 93
Bride Behind The Mask
Marguerite didnât expect Frederick to barge in, but his intentions were crystal clear.
If it wasnât to fight for Yunaâs soâcalled justice, then what?
But Marguerite had been heartbroken all day, feeling exhausted and drained.
Right now, all she wanted was to crawl into bed and let her feelings out, whether it meant crying or screaming. In the end, it was her own business.
âCan we talk about this tomorrow? I donât want to argue with you,â Marguerite said wearily, her face showing exhaustion.
Facing her resistance, Frederickâs anger flared up even more, starting off with a bang.
âWell, so youâre wallowing in selfâpity because you got exposed by the person involved? Marguerite, werenât you good at putting on a show? Werenât you good at smooth talking? If grandma hadnât woken up today, how long were you planning to deceive me?â
The continuous heartache had already drained Marguerite of her strength to argue back. Her face darkened, and she asked him faintly, âWhat did I deceive you about?â
âWhy did you say Laverne is your family?â The manâs knee pressed against Margueriteâs thigh, immobilizing her.
âShe has always been my family, thereâs no need for me to say it. Itâs an unchangeable fact.â
âIâm warning you, donât lie to me.â
Marguerite turned her face away and closed her eyes, letting out a deep sigh in despair, âFrederick, do I need to do a DNA test for you to believe me?â
The manâs hand gripped her shoulder tightly, the other hand forced her face to turn towards him, questioning her word by word. âDo you think I would let an elderly woman who just recovered from a serious illness do such an obvious thing?â
She wondered, âWhat does this man want me to say? Nothing seems to please him.â
Marguerite lowered her gaze, and could only give a melancholic smile: âAlright, what do you want me to say? You tell me, and Iâll repeat it word for word, okay?â
âMarguerite! Donât push me to my limit! If you donât tell me the truth, Iâll make you wish you were dead!â
Marguerite gazed at the manâs grim and malicious face, filled with a determination that seemed like it wanted to end her life.
She clenched her lower lip tightly, her eyes were dull and hopeless.
Despair, humiliation and anger completely enveloped her.
She had been framed by Yuna so many times, but Frederick never once trusted her.
Rather than explaining over and over again, it would be better to just give up and end this war as soon as possible.
Marguerite made up her mind, her round eyes were filled with tears, but she was full of defiance: âYes, I admit it, I lied alright. Laverne is Yunaâs grandmother, and she has nothing to do with me.â
A hint of surprise flashed in Frederickâs eyes, he clearly didnât expect Marguerite, who was just defiant, to admit so quickly.
âWhy would you do that?â
Why? Didnât he just want to hear her admit all her mistakes?
She had already said what he wanted to hear, but he asked why again.
How would she know why. She was still puzzled why the Lockwood family didnât let her recognize her grandmother.
A tear crossed Margueriteâs cheek and she wiped it away carelessly, raising an eyebrow with a light smile on her face.
âI just like to snatch Yunaâs things, I snatched her man, whatâs wrong with snatching her family?â
She looked at him with such calm gazes, her frivolous words were weightless, as if she was joking.
Frederick became even more furious, his fingers gripping her shoulders tightened abruptly.
The piercing pain quickly spread throughout her body, and Marguerite felt as if her bones were going to shatter. But she stubbornly refused to lowered her head. She clenched her teeth and didnât scream in pain.
âMarguerite, your behavior disgusts me.â
The man enunciated each word, his voice was as terrifying as a devil.
With that, he cast a disdainful glance at Margueriteâs cheek, unwilling to say another word, and angrily walked away, releasing her shoulder.
The door slammed shut with a bang, echoing his rage.
Marguerite shivered, the high walls in her heart collapsed, and her back uncontrollably slid down the cold wall until she was completely collapsed on the floor.
Her soul had long been drained, and within her shattered shell, there was emptiness, with only a heart beating chaotically.
