HIS POV

"Tejas, I need you to do something for me," he said and Ishani gave him her widest smile.

"Why should I? You did not even let me use your bathroom." I was angry from before.

"Tejas, it's serious. I need you to talk to Sunaina," he said and I went pale.

"WHATT? Why?" I almost screamed.

"What what? I need you to tell Sunaina that I'm waiting for Radhika on the roof." He said.

Here I have been avoiding her all day only to end up being close to her again.

"But why me?" I asked, getting irked.

"Who else then? Samrit is busy regarding the matter, and Jhanvi is busy with Radhika and Bhabhisa," he said.

"Why are you so worried? It is not like she'll eat you or something," he added.

She could if she wanted to. He does not know anything about her. I sighed with a heavy heart but looking at my brother's anxiousness I gave in.

I looked around but did not find her. I glanced at the stage but it was empty. Further walking into the party I found Ishani's father. I handed Ishani to his guidance and started to spot her among this crowd.

A few minutes later I found her giggling in a group of people. I started to walk up to her with my hands in my pocket and eyes on her. Her white saree was now making her features stand out more gracefully. She was sparkling under the glow of the night.

I soon found myself standing close to her group and suddenly my eyes travelled to the person standing two people away from her in the group. A man looking at her laughing and talking. Unknowingly my fist tightened in my pocket and jaw clenched. I wasn't certain why but I was not taking it very well. However I still composed myself and masked my impression before clearing my throat.

She immediately halted and looked around, when her eyes fell over mine they softened. Mine too. I again cleared my throat and chose to speak.

"Can I talk to you for a minute," I said but she was dazed a little.

She felt nervous and tried to say something but before she could form any word, another voice came.

"Sunaina, who is he?" I looked at him, the same guy I was wondering about.

"Ah..umm... hhe..he is Radhika's brother-in-law," she said, trying to smile awkwardly.

I was interrupted managing to ask her something by a girly voice that came out. I wanted to talk to her and here everybody wanted to have a chance.

"Sunaina humse parichay nahi karwaogi inka?" I heard a girl say while trying to change her voice looking in my direction.

(Sunaina won't you introduce him to us?)

But I wanted her attention. I was looking at her to talk to me, alone, but she was just getting caught with the bunch of idiots again and again.

"Ab to hum bhi rishte me aate hai," I heard another girl's giggly voice and now it was irritating me.

(Now we are also counted as families)

I briefly closed my eyes and sighed. In the next moment, I felt her pulling my arm to get me closer to the group and my eyes followed her unexpected gesture. She smiled at everybody and then at me, her palm still holding my coat.

"Ji yeh Jaya, hamare mama ki beti," she introduced the girl who last spoke.

(She is Jaya, my maternal uncle's daughter)

"Aur yeh hai Deepti, hamari saheli," she introduced the girl with an irritating changeable voice.

(She is Deepti, my friend)

Both of them tried to give their best smile and I immediately rolled my eyes at them and landed on the one man who got me riled up at first.

"Yeh hamare bhaisa hai, Kuldeep," she said, introducing me to another man in the group who was the only quiet person, till now.

(He is my brother, Kuldeep)

She introduced him as his extended family cousin.

"Kuldeep Maan Singh," He forwarded his hand giving me a soft smile.

"Tejas Pratap Rathore," I said, shaking hands with him.

"And he is Suraj, Deepti's brother," she said, introducing the man who asked her about me and left my arm.

Before I could say further an elderly man approached the group and both men walked away with him.

"Hume aapse kuch zaroori baat karni hai," I said to her.

(I need to talk to you about something important)

She nervously excused herself from those girls and we started to walk away. Walking a few good steps, she stood right in front of me. Clearing her throat she spoke.

"Kahiye, kya baat karni hai aapko humse?" She said instantly.

(Tell me, what do have to talk about with me.)

"Umm...Ah..woo..." And I was not able to frame a sentence that was already told to me.

(Umm... Ah..actu...)

"Wahan to bada kadak ban kar khade the aap, ab kya hogaya?" She asked, wiggling her eyebrows at me after crossing her arms.

(you stood so dominantly back there, now what happened to you?)

"Umm.. Actu.. Actually, bhaisa wanted to meet Bhabhisa on the roof," I said.

"What? And you're telling me this now? He must have been waiting all this while. I've got to go." she hurriedly said and sprinted off again on her toes before I could stop her.

She walked away so easily, that we just got the time to talk. But even so, what would we ever talk about? But I had to return her earring. I've been keeping it safe since morning, I had the chance I should have already given it to her. Also, I couldn't notice that she wasn't wearing one of them, but didn't she?

I walked away to join a group of businessmen. We were talking about various deals when my father came to me in search of Bhaisa. I then dialled bhaisa's number and informed him to come down. God knows what's taking him so long.

Later the ceremony ended and guests retired home. I walked back into my room tired. I swiftly removed my coat and shirt and the only thing I wanted now was a shower. Taking my towel I walked into the bathroom.

Standing under the shower, all traces of tiredness vanished. I closed my eyes, drew in a deep breath, and let it out, releasing my stress along with it.

The only thing that filled my thoughts was the sound of her giggles. I could clearly picture her in my mind. Even without any effort, she was running over my thoughts, like it was no big deal.

But it was becoming a big deal to me.

I was getting affected. Even with the simplest things happening around us. Adding to it, my mind was stuck on the moment of that man smilingly looking at her. Why was he?

It may not be a big deal, but like I said, every simple act was affecting me.

However, pushing these thoughts aside I finished my shower and came out of the washroom wearing a black lower. I lay on my bed after drying my hair.

It was a long day today and night seemed longer. I felt tired but sleep was nowhere near. I tossed and turned in the bed, in the end, I lay on my back and closed my eyes. With a few deep breaths, I attempted to let sleep take over.

Suddenly I realised I still had her earring. My eyes snapped open without delay. I hadn't returned them yet. What if she needs them for something important? After all, it's silver jewellery. I quickly got up and wore a white T-shirt. I pulled out the earring from my wallet, looked at it for a few seconds, fisted it in my palm and walked out of my room.

I could not imagine what I was doing at this hour, in someone else's home. I would have zero explanation if someone caught me here, standing right in front of her door, with her earring in my palm. I sighed and palmed my face with one while tightening my fist on another.

After brushing my fingers through my hair, I built up the nerve to knock on her door. I brought my knuckles close to the door but before I could knock I heard someone walking up the stairs.

Color drained out of my face, as the footsteps were becoming clearer and nearer. Taking advantage of the darkness at night I quickly leapt away from her door behind a pillar. My heart started to race just like that, I hope not in fear, it never has. I peeked from here and found her Bhaisa walking out of the stairs, opposite her room. He knocked on the door and in no time, his wife opened it and he walked in. The door soon closed.

Now I could plainly picture my stupidity. Stupidity to walk late at night, with a house full of guests including my family, to a girl's room, whose brother's room is right across from hers. And there was a higher possibility that she might even have slept by now.

DAMN!

I walked away from her room, realising the kind of act I just pulled. A sensible 26-year-old, reputed businessman should not be doing such a thing in her brother's in-law's house.

Wondering over these thoughts I looked above from where I stood now and was awestruck by my own move. I looked around to check for people but found none. Wasting no time I quickly put the earring in my pocket and started to climb the water pipe in the garden that led to her room.

I started putting one foot at a time and held the pipe with a tight grip. It was slightly slippery because of algae in some places. Climbing almost half of it I realised it was not an impressive move either.

But again I had to return the jewellery.

Grabbing the buckle above my head I climbed more stepped my left leg the buckle below and slipped. But before I could fall back to the ground I grabbed the pipe with both hands and tried to tighten the grip. Holding onto this position I took a couple of deep breaths and realised I should not have worn shoes for this stunt.

But it was too late now.

I again started climbing and after a good few minutes, I reached the end of the water pipe. Holding it I pushed myself further and held the window. It was open. I was now standing stable on the pipe's wooden lock holding the window by one hand and the wall by the other. And what my eyes captured was mesmerizing. Her.

She was sitting on the end of the bed still wearing that white saree. I could only see the left side of her face. With those white bangle-filled hands, she slowly pushed aside the hair strands behind her ears that were coming onto her face. I could see her earring now.

So it must be her right earring that I had. But they didn't seem to match.

She was gladly looking at a photograph. A few were lying on the bed beside her but the one in her hand had her specific interest. I tried to look at it closely and a smirk followed instantly on my lips.

She mumbled something, nothing audible to me but what I realised was- the fire was burning equally for both of us.

The struggle was worth it. Every second of it.

"You like what you see?" came out my hoarse voice.
