Chapter Six
Rejected By My Bestfriend, Accepted By The Badboy
"So are you going to tell me where we're going?" I asked Fabian, after getting sick of driving for twenty minutes with no words. The silence wasn't awkward, but the anticipation was real.
He smirked as he glanced at me quickly. "If I tell you, then how will this be fun for me?"
"I want it to be fun for me too" I huffed in annoyance, crossing my arms over my chest stubbornly. He laughed this time, and I got to relish again in how beautiful his laugh sounded.
Wait what?
"Will you at least give me a clue?"
"Nope"
"A tiny tiny clue?"
He shook his head. "No"
"A sentence?"
"You wont stop wont you?" He asked with a pointed look. It was my time to smirk.
"Nope" I provided a toothy grin as he glanced at me again. He looked amused yet intrigued by me--something I had never noticed.
"Let's just say, I'm taking you to school"
My face fell at this. "School? I just got back from school"
He laughed loudly at this, which had me a bit confused. Was he joking to annoy me? Or was he actually taking me to school?
"Not your school silly" He chuckled. "I go to school too, you know?"
It just actually occurred to me at that moment that I didn't know much about him. In fact, I didn't know anything about him. It got me intrigued to know more and more about him. Who is he really? Where is he from? What's he like under all the smirks and ego?
I suddenly didn't mind him taking me to his school again. I oddly wanted to know more and more about him. I must've been staring at him without realizing, because his next words had me in a blushing mess.
"Take a picture, Skates. It'll last longer"
I huffed and turned away quickly, not wanting to admit to him or myself that I was indeed staring at him. Will this always be how he is? Teasing, cocky and annoying? I rolled my eyes at the thought, yet it didn't bother me much.
Within minutes, we were pulling up to Hamilton and Hills High School. I turned more to eye the compound as he drove inside. He didn't strike me as a Hamilton type of guy, but I couldn't say I was surprised.
"So you're one of them huh?" I asked as I unbuckled myself.
"One of them?" He asked with a light chuckle. "Meaning?"
I shrugged. "Hamilton kids act all royalty and shit"
He surprised me by laughing with a nod. "That they do. But I'm not like that. I just go here because my mom wanted me to, and I stayed because it's actually a great school and I wanted my brother to come here too"
"Isn't your brother out of school?" I asked in confusion. The last time I checked, I didn't think high-schoolers could own roller-skating rinks. He shook his head with a light chuckle as he unbuckled himself too.
"No. I mean my younger brother. I'm kinda the middle kid" My mouth formed an 'o' as my eyebrows shot up in realization.
"How old is he?" I wasn't lying when I said I wanted to know more about this guy. He intrigued me.
"Twelve" He provided. "How about you? Have any siblings?"
I rolled my eyes at the very thought of Cinthia. Don't get me wrong, I loved her with everything in me and I would literally die without her, but she was the most annoying sister in the history of sisters.
"Yep. She's fifteen. She keeps taking my car without my permission" I frowned, running my hand over my dashboard. I really loved my car.
Fabian chuckled a little as he watched me make love to my car with my eyes. Can't blame a girl for loving such a prize.
"Seems like we would get along." He said after a while. Of course they would. It was obvious that they were both annoying alike. "Ready to go?"
"To go where exactly?" I asked. He just brought me to his school to 'hang out'? People don't usually do that after school hours I'm sure.
"Come on I'll show you"
I frowned a little as I gazed down at my outfit. "Won't my uniform be a problem?" I hated that my school was literally one of the only schools who required their sixth formers to wear uniforms. I mean, I already spent five years in it? Why continue?
"I don't think so. But just to be safe..." He trailed as I watched him shrug his jacket off.
He handed it to me, and I was reluctant to take it as he watched me in expectation. I didn't know if he was actually handing me his jacket, or if he was going to pull it away and shout April's fool--even if we are in the middle of June.
"Aren't you going to take the jacket?"
"Right" I laughed nervously as I took it from him and swung it over my shoulders. His scent immediately filled my senses--just like the night at the rink.
He smelled so good.
The jacket definitely did the trick of hiding my uniform. It fell to the middle of my thighs, hiding most of my skirt. I doubt anyone would take notice of my skirt. After all, there are so many plaid skirts in existence right?
I found it funny how huge it was on me. I rolled up the sleeves to my wrists, and zipped it all the way to my collar bone. Once done, I turned to face Fabian.
"So. How do I look?"
He eyed me for a while, looking deep in thought as I waited. "Like a girl in a jacket way to big for her"
I gave him a pointed look. "Because that wasn't sooo obvious" I drawled sarcastically as I pushed my door open.
I hopped onto the damp ground, since the light rain left the asphalt blacker than usual. I also liked the feel that the after drizzle effect had on the air. It provided a tranquil aura.
The first thing I saw when we rounded the school was the huge sign. It almost made me jealous. No wonder these kids act like they're all high and mighty. The school itself was massive. Hell, it even looked like a university.
I have never been in here before, simply because I had no reason. But now that I am, I wanted to see it all.
"So where to now?" I asked Fabian as we walked through the school. Class hours were already over obviously, but it was still open for extra-curriculars and extra classes--something all schools do I'm sure.
Instead of answering, he offered his hand for me to take. I gazed at it for a while, before gently placing my hand in his. It fit perfectly there, as if it was the final piece to a puzzle. He seemed to have noticed too, because when I looked up to his face again, he was staring at our now intertwined hands. But oddly, it didn't feel weird. It felt comfortable.
So, I simply stayed quiet as he led me to what looked like the gymnasium. He then turned to me with a sheepish look on his face when we stepped into a room with a huge swimming pool.
"I have to admit Paris, I didn't exactly know where I was taking you"
I giggled a little at this, seeing that he really was nervous, since he actually called my name. "That's okay. I'm glad you brought me here" I admitted. I really enjoyed the mini-tour I had so far of Hamilton and Hills High. I also liked his company, and really liked having his hand in mine.
'Easy there Paris. You've only known the guy a day', the annoying girl in my mind chirped. She was being such a good sport by staying quiet all this time.
"I was actually going to take you to.."
"To?" I urged, seeing him deep in though. He shook his head, as if clearing his thoughts before meeting my gaze again.
"Never mind that. Wanna swim?"
"Won't we get in trouble?" I asked with wide eyes despite the excitement in me at the suggestion.
"So?" He shrugged, unbuttoning his shirt. "We're hanging out right? After all..." He paused as he kicked off his shoes, but didn't break away from my eyes. "I'm known for trouble around here"
I shook my head with a giggle as I whipped his large jacket from my body. My eyes flickered towards the door quickly, ensuring it was closed before looking back to him.
"Turn around" I instructed, trying really hard not to drool over his body. Gosh he's hot.
He raised an eyebrow at me, but turned around nonetheless and dove into the deep side of the water. An evil plan popped into my mind, and I quickly undressed, deciding to try it out.
Luckily for me, I wore matching underwear today. Normally I wouldn't have been undressing in front of a complete stranger, but the adrenaline rush made me do it.
For once I will be doing something fun without Shanae or Colton. Colton--gosh I believed everything fun was only Colton. Deep down, I knew this was me testing the waters of fun--literally.
I'm sure fun existed away from him, and Fabian seemed like the guy to show me just that. So, I took a chance. I stripped from my clothes, placed them in a corner neatly along with his, and strolled over to the edge of the pool.
Luckily for me and my plan, he was underneath the water and not paying attention to me. With a smirk, I threw myself in the pool, hard enough for it to give me a desired splash.
I wiggled and jumped to the surface from time to time, and I saw that he had emerged from where he was. I ducked back underneath the water again before pushing my head up and flaring my arms all around, and I watched as his eyes went wide.
"Help!" I screamed. "I fell in! I can't-"Â I purposely let myself sink beneath the water again. I could hear the rapid swishing of water being pushed away as he swam towards me.
"Fabian!" I shouted again before ducking back under the water. I felt evil for doing this, but I couldn't imagine the look on his face when he learned that it was fake.
"Paris?" He called once he was close enough, but I sank back underneath, swimming away just when he was about to grab me. I resurfaced once I was sure I was behind him, and it was obvious that he was confused.
"Boo!" I attempted to scare him, and that I did.
He jumped before quickly spinning around to meet my eyes. His brows knitted together as he gazed at me in disbelief, then realization lit his features.
I couldn't contain my laughter, and I almost drowned for real after sinking numerous times when I tried to grip my tummy as I laughed. He didn't look impressed, and for the first time since I met him, he was the one who looked annoyed.
"That wasn't funny Paris." He stated plainly. Maybe it wasn't, but his face surely was.
"I-I-m sorry" I managed through laughs. "But you should've seen your face"
It seemed like I completely broke his 'hang out' vibe, since he simply made for the pool edge. I pouted.
"Hey come back" I held onto his hand, halting his movements. "Okay I'm sorry. But to be fair, I really got you"
He sighed, and I was happy to see that he was actually letting it go. "Okay I admit. You got me Skates. But when I get you back, you better be ready" The way he said it actually had me shivering in fear. He definitely seemed like a person who pranked hard. I suddenly regretted doing what I did.
"Too late to forgive and forget?" I offered softly with an innocent smile, and it was his time to smirk.
Instead of answering, he simply winked and swam away. I swam after him, and I spent about half an hour trying to convince him to let my little stunt go. But after I saw that he wasn't letting up, I just enjoyed the surprisingly warm water and Fabian's company.
He was actually really fun and hilarious, from what I could see so far. He had an easy-going way about him, and my cheeks actually hurt from all the laughing. Eventually, the water tired us out, so we got dressed and simply sat at the pool edge to talk.
He was telling me about how he almost got sued for accidentally killing a cat, when the door flew open, revealing us in all our illegal activities. The pool was closed, so we weren't even supposed to be there.
My heart raced at the sound, but I relaxed when I saw that it was just another student. If we were going down, he was too.
However, Fabian didn't relax. In fact, he didn't even seem like he cared that someone had entered until he saw who it was. The boy looked around our age, and his eyes searched the area before landing on us. A wicked smile, much like my previous one, pulled on his lips as he saw Fabian.
Fabian rose and stood before me, as if trying to block my view from him, or better yet, his from me. I saw how his shoulders went broad and his fist balled themselves as the boy walked further in the room.
"Fabian! Ah there you are" He threw his arms in the air exaggeratedly, and it was obvious that he was the only one enjoying the encounter. Even I felt tense.
I peeked behind Fabian's feet to look at him, but like he felt my gaze on him. His eyes met mine, and his smirk grew impossibly wider.
"Ah there she is. Who's the new chick Fabian? You f**k her yet? When's my turn?" He asked, never once leaving my gaze.
The level of disrespect!
My blood boiled at this. I rose to my feet also, but I quickly held onto Fabian when he made for the jerk. He looked like he was about to punch him in his stupid face, and I wouldn't have minded, but we all would get in trouble if something should break out there and then.
"Excuse me? Who do you think you are?" I asked, stepping in front of Fabian. His eyes roamed down my body slowly before meeting my eyes again.
"No wonder I haven't seen you before. You're a Reagan High chick. Someone said they saw Fabian with a girl. Thought I'd check it out myself"
"If you don't leave right now Derick I swear you'll regret it" Fabian threatened, taking a step in front of me again. I saw 'Derick' shrink back a little, but he recovered quickly.
"Or what, Smith? Cant nail any locals so you aim for someone from another school huh? You think taking her was smart? What happens when she hears about what you did-"
Derick didn't get to finish, because in a second, a fist was connecting to his left cheek, sending him dunking in the pool. I gasped in shock, my hands going over my mouth as I watched his resurface. He looked pissed at first, but when he saw how much he had gotten to Fabian, he smiled instead.
"Face it Smith!" He shouted as he got smaller and smaller, and it was then that I realized that Fabian had held onto my hand and was leading us out. "You'll scare her away.." His voice trailed as we appeared in a familiar hall again.
I fell in line with Fabian's steps, but I didn't say anything because I was actually scared. He looked like he was about to kill somebody. I cleared my throat, deciding that I didn't want it to be me.
"Fabian?" I called softly, but he didn't answer. I tried again, but still nothing.
I let go of his hand as I glued my feet to the ground. This caused him to finally meet my eyes. It was then that I noticed that he wasn't angry at me, but that wanker Derick.
With a sigh, I reconnected our hands and brought my free hand to his cheek. "Don't let him get to you. He's rude and bloody disrespectful. But we were having so much fun before. Don't let him spoil it"
"He already did." Was all he said before resuming his movements, this time without me as he let go of my hand. I couldn't help but feel like he was now upset with me too. But, why? Derick pissed me off too. In fact, he disrespected me and my femininity straight to my face!
Nonetheless, I buried all the plans I cooked up about burying him alive and simply followed behind Fabian back to the parking lot.
Well so much for a great hang out.
