Chapter 219 I Only Love Imogen
Troy threw his cell phone to his side and gently patted Grace on the shoulder. âGrace, itâs okayâ¦â Grace sobbed in Troyâs arms.
Troy didnât know how to comfort her, so he kept patting her back. He pulled two tissues from the table and tenderly handed them to her, waiting for her to calm down slowly.
Grace wiped her eyes as she did so, but still couldnât stop crying.
âGrace, you can play with anyone you like, okay? You donât have to listen to Emily.â
Grace leaned against Troyâs shoulder, her eyes filled with tears and teardrops still hanging from her eyelashes. Her voice was still a little choked. âTroy, why doesnât Emily like Imogen?â
Troy looked somber. He had thought about that, too.
Since Imogen came to the Marshall family, Emily had not been friendly to her.
She just treated Imogen like air at first.
Later, after Grandpa announced his marriage to Imogen, Emily was fiercely against it. She even went back to Henry to ask him about it, and she should also have approached Imogen privately. After getting no answers from either of them, Emily found Troy and firmly asked him to refuse the marriage.
It was only when Troy said that he didnât want to disobey his Grandpa, but he would divorce Imogen in the future that she was barely quiet.
From the beginning, the reason Emily gave was that Imogen came from a bad background, and Troy deserved better.
It just wouldnât be necessary to say it to Grace.
Grace looked up at Troy suspiciously as if she didnât understand something.
Troy looked at Graceâs face and changed the subject. âGrace, would you like to stay in New York City and go to school here? I will take care of you from now on.â
âIâ¦â Grace pursed her lips and lowered her head.
Troy smiled. âLetâs skip that topic for now. Never mind what Emily said. Since youâre here now, youâll do as I say and play wherever and with anyone you want.â
He understood Graceâs hesitation well.
Emily had raised her from a young age. Even though she wasnât Graceâs Mom, their bond couldnât be cut as easily as Troyâs was to his grandparents.
Grace agreed in a low voice, âOkay.â
âThen,â Troy picked up the tiger doll and tucked it into Graceâs arms. âLetâs go to bed. Are playing with Imogen tomorrow?â
you
still
Grace shook her head in silence.
âWhy? Because of what Emily said?â
Grace lowered her head and played with her fingers. âI donât want Emily to get angry.â
As if she was afraid Troy would get angry, she wrapped her arms around Troyâs neck. âI only hve Emily now, and sheâs good to me. I donât want to make her upset.â
to restrain and condescend yourself for Emily.
âBesides, Emilyâs just scaring you. She wonât really get mad. If Emily does get mad at you, youâll just
go
tell your greatâgrandma, and she will criticize Emily!â
âReally? Your greatâgrandma will back me up? Like how Ericâs Mom scolded him?â
âWell, your greatâgrandma will scold her!â
Grace couldnât help but laugh at the thought of Emily being counted out by her greatâgrandma as if she were a child.
âAre you happy now?â
âYes.â Graceâs head rubbed against Troyâs shoulder like a kitten. âTroy, youâre so nice.â
At that moment, Emilyâs call came back.
Troy directly hung up and carried Grace upstairs.
After Grace was asleep, Troy came out of the room, gently closed the door, walked downstairs to the living room, and dialed a phone call over to Emily.
When the call was answered, Emilyâs voice had calmed down, and she asked, âIs Grace asleep?â âYes,â Troy answered.
Emily sighed, helpless in her voice. âTroy, Iâm doing this for your good. Why are you being so stubborn?â
âIâm no longer married to anyone but Imogen. You donât have to say anything. I called you back to discuss Grace.â
Emilyâs voice dripped with annoyance. âI think youâve really had your soul taken away by Imogen! Donât think that I donât know that Imogen is infertile. You just want to keep Grace there so that she can be Imogenâs daughter! Listen, Iâll never agree with this matter!â
Troyâs eyes were getting cold. âHow do you know?â
âSheâ¦â Emily blurted out, wanting to say something but holding back. âAfter you said that day that she had a miscarriage, I asked someone to go to the hospital to check. Itâs because she canât give birth to another child that Iâm firmly opposed to you getting remarried to her. Think about it. Do you really intend to live your whole life without your own biological child?â
âYes, I only love Imogen!â Troy said decisively.
âEmily, Iâve already planned to let Grace make her own choice when her vacation is over. Iâll send her back if she wants to. And if sheâs willing to stay at home, I wonât bother you anymore in the future.â
âYouâ¦â Emily was outraged. âDonât you realize she canât get pregnant again if she has lost a child? Youâre just going to do it for such a woman whose body has probably gotten so badâ¦â
âEmily!â
Troy shouted out angrily, âAs my elder, I have great respect for you, but that doesnât mean I allow you to insult Imogen as you please. Grace will stay with me in the future. If sheâs around someone like
you who resents the poor and doesnât know right from wrong, Iâm afraid this wonât be conducive to her growth!â
âTroy! Youâ¦â
Without waiting for Emily to speak, Troy directly hung up the phone.
Emily called again, and he refused to answer.
Chapter 219 I Only Love Imogen
Emily called one after another, and Troy directly turned off the sound of his cell phone and snapped it on the table.
Grace didnât call Imogen again for the next two days.
Imogen was also very comfortable wandering around New York City, taking pictures as she went along.
When she got home, she picked out the photos she was satisfied with and posted them online. She received many favorable comments from netizens, most of whom were from the herd mentality. A few people were seriously describing the scenery in the photos.
Imogen casually flipped through and exited Instagram just in time to see Alex send her a message.
It was a link.
Alex followed up with another one and said: [Imogen, check this out. I suggest you take part in it.] Imogen didnât reply right away. She clicked on the link and jumped to an Instagram.
The Instagram account is called Mountain and River International Photography Competition.
This account was officially verified.
The entire Instagram content was probably about the launch of the new Mountain and River International Photography Competition, and photography enthusiasts are welcome to apply. It also introduced the time of collection of works, classification of works, rules of the contest, awards and judges and guests, and so on.
Alex: [This photography competition is very popular. You donât have to care whether you can win or not. The emphasis is on participation.]
Imogen: [Okay. Iâll take a closer look.]
In fact, she had already decided in her heart that she wanted to participate.
She had nothing to do anyway, so it would be good to participate in some photography contests. On Friday night, Troy called Imogen.
Imogen picked up, and Graceâs childish voice was on the other end of the phone. âImogen, donât forget to pick me up tomorrow!â
âDonât worry. Iâll remember!â
