Chapter 27

Memories p2.

Finally (BL)

Lavender

"Alpha! Alpha!", Forrest kept yelling.

I just laughed at his excitement, "17 years now! So, how's it fee-"

"Alpha where are they? I can't sense them does that mean what I think it-"

I cut him off before he jumped to conclusions, "Ya just turned!! Patience! Well, it is exciting, BUT STILL!! Ya need patience."

He pouted. Seriously, he's so excited and cute today!!

MOM EXCITEMENT!!

"Here,", I handed him what I was gonna hand Violet (Beta), "keep yerself busy!"

He looked at the papers for a moment before rushing off to do the errands. Wow, he hasn't talked like that for a long while! Never talks to anyone else yet there he is running pack errands! HaHAH! Violet (mate) would get a kick outta this!! Well more like act all unamused and shit, pulling that damn poker face.

Sigh.

I remember being once like that, though not as excited as Forrest! Man, I think I gave him too high a hopes huh Violet...

The door opened and my beloved Beta returned.

"AWW LOOK WHO'S ALL SAD AND LEFT OUT!", I yelled in a baby voice.

"Shut up!", he snapped at me, "What if he does them wrong?! That's not going to be easy to fi-"

"Y'know,", I interrupted, "sometimes I just wanna stuff ya in a box and duct tape the hell outta it."

He gave me a death glare. I snickered.

"Hmm, ya haven't found yers yet, yer what...14? You'll understand when yer ooollldddeeerrr~", I teased, knowing he hated his age being pointed out. Violet's our youngest Beta in our history. He needed something to occupy himself with to keep him from going on a rampage after Violet's death. So what better than a Beta? Our former Beta died in the war anyway...

Our heads snapped towards the door that slammed open. I smiled, "Oh my! Already done, Forrest? Why if ya keep that up I just might make ya Beta! Ahahaha!!", Violet looked beyond pissed off. He's on his period or some shit. Guy can't take a goddamn joke.

I refocused my attention on Forrest as he stared at me with intensity, "Ugh,", I groaned, "they rarely come right after ya turn 17, FO-RREST!!"

He did his cute childish pout again, but he was dead serious. I, for one, couldn't take him seriously if it weren't for the topic.

"Look,", I said much more calmly, getting his attention, "you'll find yer mate, and when ya do, it'll be sooo so so worth the fucking wait! Don't worry about it! Ya don't wanna rush yer mate, right?", this seemed to have calmed and greatly relieved him.

"Yeah, got it. Got any more errands? I've got a lot of energy to burn."

I laughed heartily, handing over envelopes of important shit I stayed up writing, "There! Ya know what to do~ AGAHAHAHA!!"

Violet just looked at us annoyed, probably thinking along the lines of: I could've done that.

When Forrest left, I looked at Violet. Man, I can't leave him with nothing to do...that'll mean time to think...and not even a minute of thinking fer himself is good fer him.

"Violet,", I called out, "mind doing th-"

"Don't call me that,", he said barely above a whisper, "can you...call me something else?"

"Hmm, I don't think she'd like that ver-"

"NO!", I kept a poker face, "That name goes down with her!"

I continued to watch him in all seriousness. I don't really understand their relationship, but I do know their history.

"Beta.", I said, referring to no one in particular.

But he looked up.

I chuckled, "Beta it is."

~•~present time~•~

I walked in to the healing cabin after consoling Sally. Can't blame her for her trauma. Poor wolf was betrayed by her own pack. Good riddance to them.

I made my way to the very back room, opening the curtain that acted as the door, revealing a sleeping Axel and a sleep deprived mate.

I took a step closer to them, and no more.

"I know why you did that,", Forrest said in a depressed and hoarse voice, "but still..."

I remained silent.

"Don't make me go through that again...", he pleaded, "don't make him go through that..."

I sighed, "It was only that once.", I said in a low voice.

He sniffled, "still..."

I couldn't stand seeing him like this. I made my way towards him.

"He stands a chance out there. He may be weaker, but his will is stronger."

"Does that mean he passed?"

"He managed to push her off quite far from himself, I could only imagine his strike would be much stronger."

A long pause.

"Why to the death?"

I didn't answer. Not because I had no reason.

"Lavender."

I gave in with a sigh.

"He wasn't ready. He's still too naive and nice, this would be his first war and hopefully his last. And I know you swear you'll protect him through it all, but..."

"But...?"

"Forrest, 5 werewolf packs means 5 Alphas with Alpha training. And they're all trained to unknown extents. I'm one Alpha. But it is my business so I'm going to have to fight against them all. After all, I'm the "Alpha who doesn't care about my dead bonded mate",", I paused, "and you will be too focused on Axel than anyone else. Violet on the other hand...I need to stay alive to keep him in check...if not..."

I didn't finish that sentence, and Forrest didn't press me to.

"So he really is...", Forrest began.

"Yes.", I interrupted.

"But why?", he looked at me with a mix of panicked confusion.

"I can finally breathe again, I can see so much more clearly. When I think about it,", I look down at my hands, "I feel like I've finally regained my power as Alpha and as Lavender. It's somewhat the same for him. He uses his power to serve Violet, with Violet gone I was the next best thing, even though I was drained just trying to stay alive. But now...", I clenched my fists, "now I somewhat feel myself again, and that's what he's been waiting for: someone stronger to devote himself to."

Forrest looked away unhappily, "His training is different yet on par with the Alpha training, and he's at your service.  It's as if we have 3 Alphas in our pack."

I chuckled.

"What's so funny?"

I subsided my small laughter, "One would think that this war would be a breeze for us, but in reality, killing wolf after wolf in a war...it makes one numb...heh, like Sally."

Forrest's eyes furrowed at the sound of her name. He obviously greatly disliked her for trying to kill Axel even though I ordered her to.

"I ordered her to kill him."

His face grew dark, "I hate your plans. There's better ways to go about some things you know."

"Yeah,", I agreed, "some things. But this plan was 2 birds with one stone. I picked her because of her history. I know how Axel thinks, and if I'm to be honest, I was too close to ending the whole thing. If Axel went for the kill, then our pack would fall apart, but of course that was impossible. If Axel got through to her, she'd become a strong member to us with indubitable loyalty. Our pack consists of the rejected, abandoned, and the lost. We aren't connected by blood, but by the will to live and survive. We help each other, fight for each other, love each other. We are the ones that have given up hope as a werewolf. Then there's the Night Sky pack: a second chance."

Forrest remained quiet, stroking Axel's paw.

"What if he didn't get through to her...?"

I actually laughed aloud this time, "We both know that would've never happened. I would interfere, but by doing so I'd have to kill Sally since it would be an unfair act to save Axel. She'd run off, point proven that we're just another backstabbing pack, and give us away to the enemy. Plus,", I looked at him, "we both know what you would do. Which brings me to question: Why didn't you fight off our beloved Beta much more fiercely?"

He didn't answer right away, "You saved me, I owe my life and service to you. I trust you as well, if it's not obvious."

I was touched by his words. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath and sighed. I opened them again.

"Forrest,"

He continued staring at his sleeping mate, but I knew he was listening.

"People are going to die in the war, and I don't just mean our pack members. Remember, the ones we kill have families and loved ones too. They aren't just faceless, unimportant wolves in life. But if I were to ever die during battle, Violet would see no purpose in fighting for the Night Sky pack. He may become another opponent. Then again, if there's one wolf I don't know, it's him.", I turned to Forrest, "I just want you to understand that."

He looked at me, emotions swirling violently in his eyes. Then he turned them back to his mate.

"He cares for you, y'know..."

I looked at him in surprise.

"Isn't it obvious? He may be aloof and very strong, but he didn't take advantage of you while you were lost. He continued obeying your orders, continued to care for the pack you love, and continued to care for you."

I looked at Forrest, not believing what he's saying.

"What makes ya say that?", I asked doubtfully.

He let out a short laugh, "What makes you think otherwise?"

I lowered my eyes on Axel's wolf body. Then remembered the lab. In a desperate attempt to change the subject I mentioned it.

"Axel can have the lab to himself now. It's his."

Forrest's shocked eyes snapped back to mine, "Wha-"

"It's his! He's obviously got better use with it than anyone else. I'll provide the supplies and shit."

His eyes narrowed in suspicion, "Is this your way of saying sorry? Because that's pitiful."

"No, fuckass.", I rolled my eyes, "I meant what I meant. I'll apologize properly when the bugger wakes up."

As if on cue, the wolf body before us shifted. Axel's eyes fluttered open and he let out a wolf growl. He was going to morph when Forrest stopped him, "Your injuries are too big for that. ". So Axel didn't and instead looked around tiredly. He giggled a hello to me before resting his head again.

"I'll leave the both of you alone.", I stood up and closed the curtain. Forrest's voice sweetly soothed his mate. I headed back to the house, and stopped after hearing scratching behind the door. When I opened it, Waffles came bouncing out, fearlessly walking across the area and inside the healing cabin. I inspected the door from the inside and saw it covered in scratch marks.

"Fucking cat!", I cursed out emptily.

I went in and closed the door. I headed straight to the bedroom and flopped down on the bed. Everything was according to plan. I was sure that Sally was no longer a threat to us, and Axel wasn't as clueless. The only thing left was the war.

...

No...there's something else I need to do. I need to clear things up with Violet. If Forrest was right, then we have a lot to talk about. I kind of felt sorry. I didn't really think he was capable of caring for me. Heh, who am I kidding, the bugger was raised by Violet!

...

Oh Violet, I've messed up, didn't I?
