Memories, old and new.
Finally (BL)
Mixen laid in the living room of the Alpha's house, and the Beta still sat at the spot to think. It was now midnight since the previous chapter. The pack, who each were scattered through the city, were growing evermore anxious as the days passed. Most neighboring packs have yet to notice this amazing opportunity to raid the camp.
Most.
One of the closer neighboring packs, Crow's Death, have sent their best wolf in scouting. Crow's Death is a weird name, you say? The name is so, for they are known for their specialty in hunting birds, mostly crows.
Anyway, the scout returned to inform the Alpha and Beta of the camp being deserted. Mixen was of course in the house, therefore was not seen, also not smelled for he was also drowned in that terrible potion to conceal one's scent. The starting scent of the potion is beyond disgusting to werebears.
The Alpha of Crow's Death arranged a group of his top 30 wolves to raid the camp, to unearth the treasures of the pack, to humiliate, to dominate. After all, if a pack doesn't have a camp, where are they supposed to gather as wolves?
The group went to the pack. Just in case a change happened since the scout reported back, they moved towards the camp stealthily. Our Beta is still at the spot, and Mixen is still sleeping, though not for long. Mixen still has his gut to trust.
"It's obvious they used a scent concealing potion, there's still a chance there might be some hidden wolves still guarding the camp.", the Beta of Crow's Death warned his group.
They snuck into the open of the camp and looked around.
"How odd is it for a camp to be deserted? There must be quite a big emergency, then again, the Night Sky pack is quite infamous. Taking in all the rogues and making a pack out of it is just the most disgraceful and shameful thing....", whispered one of the wolves, and though the Beta agreed, he shushed him.
Mixen had a feeling something wasn't right. He sensed danger. He got up from the carpet that now had a heavy imprint of his body on it. He headed out the door.
"What is that?", one wolf gasped.
They all looked towards the house from which the heavy paws were heard.
"Could it be the Alpha?", one asked the wolf beside him.
"Could the rumored Alpha be that big?"
They were silenced as the door knob jingled. Mixen struggled to open the damn thing. Doorknobs. Practically a lock itself to a bear. But, Mixen managed, and revealed himself to the group of wolves.
The Crow's Death group stared at the terrifyingly large, 8 feet bear. Was it their kind? Or a regular bear? The group stepped back. Bears are independent yet so, unbelievably strong. Bears their kind, depending on their experience, could take down 20 wolves with no harm. However, there're 30 of them, and Mixen is very, very old.
The Beta was the only one to not react, "Straighten up, fools! This bear is old, we can kill him.".
The wolves straightened themselves and began to prowl separate ways around Mixen. Mixen kept his beady eyes on the Beta that remained still in front of him. These wolves are really full of themselves. The Beta narrowed his eyes, wondering what the ancient bear was thinking. Mixen didn't move, otherwise they'd all panic and pound on him. He preferred to try all his options before fighting. That's just how Mixen is.
"My, my...what pack are ye wolves fr'm?"
"Crow's Death.", the Beta answered.
"Ah yes, is uhh...what's the name now...Jaxson! Is he still Alpha?"
The Beta's eyes ever so slightly widened in surprise. Jaxson was their Alpha...3 decades ago.
"Ah no wait...that Cheryll took over...never did visit since then...", Mixen seemed to be in his own world.
Meanwhile the Beta an the group were surprised he knew Jaxson. Crow's Death's greatest Alpha.
"Fun times we 'ad though...he thought me to hunt the birds! Heheh, it's a shame he's gone, bless him!"
The Beta knew Jaxon was far better than his current Alpha, but no one ever hinted otherwise. Their current Alpha doesn't exactly have patience. The Beta idolized Alpha Jaxon, but no one would ever know that.
After a moment, the Beta suddenly realized the current situation, he snapped out of it and glared fiercely at Mixen. How dare this fool speak about the great Alpha with such familiarity! As well as distract him and his group.
"Enough!", the Beta barked, "Why is your kind here?! Didn't know bears could be enslaved by wolves."
Mixen raised his chin with pride, his eyes furiously eyeing the Beta. Bears are quite prideful.
Right then, the wolves jumped on Mixen, biting away at his aged flesh. Mixen didn't howl in pain, but instead grew unbelievably furious. He turned his head to get a wolf by the neck with his mouth, then throwing the wolf against a tree. The wolf's body made a cringe worthy crack as it made contact with the tree. The wolf morphed into his human, and blood leaked from his nose and mouth.
The other wolves were frightened, but didn't back down. They became more cautious, keeping their distance from Mixen. Mixen licked his teeth, "It's been awhile since I've tasted wolf...". The words sent chills down most of the group.
Mixen lowered himself into position, staying like that for what seemed like an eternity until he lunged with terrifying speed to one of the wolves. He grabbed the wolf with his teeth by the neck, and while he was occupied him the wolf, the rest took the opportunity to pounce on him. Mixen tried his hardest to fight off the wolves. They were easy kills, but the Beta was another story. He was extremely skilled in both fighting and defending his fellow pack members. It made any other kills frustratingly harder, to the point that Mixen was taking more damage than he delivered. He shouldn't be fighting at his age, his body has grown fragile over the years.
The Beta bit into Mixen's neck, trying to go for kill until Mixen had enough. He shouldn't be pitying himself now, he has to protect this pack until Lavender returns! Mixen took a wolf that caused terrible damage to his rear right leg, and snapped on his neck, breaking it. He swung his heavy paw on another's head, making the wolf fly across the camp, leaving him to gasp for air in human form. The Beta's group was dropping into human form one by one, and Mixen was growing angrier by the second. The Beta continued to fight and defend his group the best he could. His thoughts raced at the new outcome their fate could take.
Then he saw Mixen cough up blood.
This sparked newfound hope into the group. Mixen was dying, and they still had 12 wolves left. Mixen knew he wasn't going to make it, but he still needed to defend the camp. He can't die now, he's still needed. He thought to himself as the group eyed him with intensity. He looked into the Beta's eyes and remembered earlier at the mention of Jaxon.
"I guess I oughta be joinin' Jaxon soon..."
They all stopped, wondering what he's up to.
"Who woulda thought...*cough*...me be taken down by a good friend's pack...what would Jaxon say..."
The Beta's breathing hitched at those words. Has he been too consumed by their current Alpha's ways? Has he lost what his true Alpha believed in?
"Haha, oh my stars, if it isn't Crow's Death!"
All heads turned to face the voice from the bushes, rustling their way over to the clearing.
"And you'd attack my guest? How low..."
"It's the Alpha...!", one of the wolves said in horror.
"Lavender...", Mixen smiled.
Her wolf form stood large and strong compared to the others. Her aura was pure authority and intimidation. Taking a closer look, Her gray, wolf body was dirtied and ruffled, and Her throat was stained with dried blood.
"Beta, your orders?", one of the wolves asked in a low, cautious whisper.
The Beta looked at Night Sky's Alpha, conflicted between sadness and anger, "Lavender..."
Lavender's eyes grew soft at the sight of her old friend, "Go back to your pack."
He gulped, though not from fright.
"We've lost enough wolves here, lets retreat."
"Be-!"
"Retreat!", the Beta cut off the wolf.
The group then retreated to their pack, reporting to their furious Alpha who took out Her anger on Alexander, the Beta. The pack watched the daily abuse on their beloved Beta. No one in Crow's Death was happy that day.
Meanwhile, back at the camp.
"You let them go?", a voice from where the Alpha rustled through said. Mixen's head snapped towards the approaching wolf. Light Claw's Alpha.
Mixen's eyes widened with shock. Lavender helped the bear back to the house, hissing in pain every minute or so.
"Pup, what is goin' on? Why is their Alpha here?", Mixen asked, too confused to worry about anything else.
"Where is he?", Lavender looked around the house. Mixen snapped out of his confusion, "Call John over, he can fix me up. You need Violet's help."
"Fine, where is he?"
"Where she used to go."
Lavender looked take aback, but hurried. Mixen's body isn't exactly what it used to be. She morphed into a human, collapsing to the floor at her condition. Fighting werewolves in human form was exactly what she did, and despite her severe injuries She needed to stay in wolf form to move around. Hopefully nothing bad happens to Her human form.
She grabbed the phone, dialing John's phone to have him over. She then immediately morphed back to run to Violet, her Beta. She stopped when she saw the light just behind the trees, walking up to the light to see Violet.
He sat down, looking hypnotized by the scene before him. Lavender wondered why Mixen would allow Violet time to himself. Haven't they been trying to prevent that? Wouldn't thinking about his first love dying in front of him and blaming himself for not being strong enough...wasn't that...too much? Our very Alpha was actually scared at the sight. She slowly walked up to the human formed Beta.
"Violet...?"
No reply.
Lavender sighed sadly, and took a seat next to him.
"Hey,", She started in a whisper, "what are ya thinkin' about...?"
"Her.", he whispered, tears only brimming at his eyes.
Lavender frowned, "I miss her too..."
"Of course you would...you're mates..."
She sensed the hint of defeat in his voice, and somewhat almost understood.
"No, I miss Violet just as much as you."
He remained silent for awhile, "I don't need your pity."
Lavender clenched her jaw, and her eyebrows furrowed in sadness, "Look,", She began then paused, "I believe in Violet's theories too. I understand in a more human sense. Violet showed me that."
When he didn't say anything, She continued, "I'm not telling you empty words, I mean them."
He remained silent for another while, "She understood her human as much as she understood her wolf."
Lavender smiled, "Violet really was something."
Violet's mouth couldn't help but tremble into a frown, tears slid down his cheeks, and his eyebrows rose sadly as if he couldn't help his sad expression, "I miss her,", he cried softly, "I want her back, Lavender, when is she coming back?"
Lavender morphed into her human form, crying as well, and she opened her arms to welcome him. He scurried towards her embrace, and he sobbed, not realizing the condition She's in. The Alpha held Her crying Beta like this, as she watched the sunrise, tears making their way down her face as well.
It wasn't until the Beta finally calmed down that he noticed the bruised and the deeply wounded arms that held him.
"You're hurt.", it took awhile to process until he realized what he was actually seeing, "You're hurt! We need to get you back to-"
"Shhh,", She hushed, "Just take me back quietly. Don't ruin the moment."
~â¢~
The Alpha of the Light Claw pack, who sat on one of the sofas in human form, watched John with His golden eyes as he attended to Mixen's wounds. The bear explained who our well-suited guest was, so John was terribly nervous under His observation.
The Beta came through the entrance to where John was since he had the medical supplies all ready. Our Alpha was laid next to Mixen on the carpet of the living room, in human form. Our Beta was already working on cleaning Her wounds.
"Your wolves are terribly trained in healing.", Light Claw's Alpha said quietly.
Lavender chuckled, this guy was even more blunt than She was.
"Every pack is famous for something. Yours just happen to be medicine, and holy fucking shit do you guys know yer-", Lavender began coughing.
The other Alpha looked away and in a low voice mumbled, "And you have your pack of rogues..."
"Yep.", She replied not at all offended.
He looked back at Her, "Have you no shame?"
"My pride is as high as yours, Gillie."
He clenched his jaw, seething through them, "We are not on a first name basis."
Lavender groaned, "That's what you're worried about? Not the fact I called you a nickname? God, you're such a pain in the ass. At least let me call you Gilbert."
Gilbert's eyes narrowed in fury, "You have no respect towards Alpha's, do you?"
"You tell me.", She replied with closed eyes as our Beta began cleaning Her face.
His eyes widened and His mouth turned into a pissed off smile, "Oh?".
Lavender smiled, knowing She was really testing His patience. Honestly, other Alphas are too uptight.
"In my defense, I was never showed any respect, Alpha or not. They all want me and my pack gone. Why do I have to treat them with respect? Unlike them, I started from the bottom, their titles as Alpha was passed on to them cuz they were Betas, whether the pack agreed with it or not. Isn't it the same with yours?"
Gilbert's eyes calmed down and narrowed at the Alpha before Him, "It's far more complex than that."
Lavender huffed and stopped talking. Violet placed a wet cloth over her eyes.
Gilbert quietly sighed, "But I admit, your rise from an omega to an Alpha is quite admirable. Not to mention creating a whole new pack as large as yours. There hasn't been a new, famous pack in centuries."
Lavender smiled at the compliment rarely given from the aloof Alpha.
"We should totally be friends."
Gilbert made a disgusted look at the smiling Alpha, but looked away.
"Enhance your vocabulary first."
"Haha-!", Lavender began coughing from laughter. Who knew Gilbert told jokes?
