Forrest

I led the way back to our meeting place by the boulder, and from then on Axel led us to his place. We were walking on the side-walk and people were rarely seen. I was fuming with jealousy and hatred until he explained that Waffles is just a cat.

Cats.

I shuddered at the thought of them. Those....rodents....need to return to the hell from which they came from. There they can hiss and just plain out hate you as they expect you to heed to their commands. Those monsters think they own the place, giving that look and that pride of theirs practically swelling! I look back at my mate. Why cats???

"Why do you...like cats?", I tried saying without spitting out the word.

A large grin spread across his face as he zones out, most likely in another world.

"Ahh! Soo much to saaay!", he turned back to me, "Well, first off: they're perfect! I mean, they're

"Cute,"

Hideous.

"Fluffy,"

They'd make nice coats.

"Cuddly,"

Hah! Yeah right....

"Playful,"

They don't play, they prey.

"Clean,"

They lick themselves without ever a clean mouth! Plus they don't like water...

"Calming,"

That's because all they do is sleep.

"Aaand....yeah, I guess that's it for now. Don't you agree though?"

I stopped walking. Did I...agree? With all that? I looked into his hopeful, happy, and innocent eyes.

"Mere words can't describe them."

Axel's eyes widened as did his smile. I practically felt myself melt on the spot.

"Ohh!! I can't wait for you to meet Waffles!! Come on!! Let's RUN!!"

He sprinted away, and I quickly followed in a panic. But before going any further he stopped and grabbed my hand to my surprise.

"Sorry, I shouldn't have suddenly ditched you."

As we ran, he looked ahead with a smile on his face. I just stared at him speechless. He understands me. I'm so glad I've finally found him.

*~in front of the shop~*

I was heavily panting. Turns out we weren't even close to the shop when we started running. In fact, 8 miles away. Axel tripped and sprained his ankle within the first mile so I carried him and ran the whole time. He looked so happy cheering and pointing before us as if on our way to an adventure. Running that long in human form is terribly exhausting, but for his sake, I didn't dare stop.

"Yay!! We're here!", he turned to look at me, concern and a sheepish grin on his face, "You okay?"

I immediately straightened myself, "I am fine, don't worry." , I have to protect him, can't be appearing weak now!

He smiled and hugged me, "Hehe, you're all sweaty,"

We entered the shop and the scent of multiple dogs hit my nose. The bell behind the door lightly rang and an old man popped up behind a counter.

"Welcome to W-! Oh, just you boy! Ah, a customer?", he asked as his eyes landed on me.

"Ah, no...umm, yeah he's my,", Axel glances up at me,"lover?...yeah..", I swear my heart skipped a beat as I looked at him in wonder.

The old man just stared at us, "...lover? And what's he doing here? I see no dog with hi- Ah! Are you introducing this young man to me? Oh if that's so,", he scrambled to unhook the little gate on the counter and when he did, hurried over to me as he wiped at his apron, "Oh sorry it takes awhile with a mind like mine!", he holds out his hand for me to shake and I took it, still wondering who this man is.

"I am the owner of Wolfie's Woofing Paws, Axel's boss!"

"Nice to meet you...-"

"Oh call me Mr. Wolfie!"

"-Mr. Wolfie, my name is Forrest."

"Ah nice name, yes yes, very nice."

The ringing of the telephone on the counter echoed and Mr. Wolfie immediately went over to it.

"Nice meeting you Forrest, congratulations to you Axel!"

Axel just smiled in response since the man already had the phone to his ear, taking notes on the customer's information. Axel grabbed my hand and pulled me farther back into the store. He growled here and there at certain dogs, making them obey.

"You're your own Alpha in here, huh?"

He blushed, looking straight ahead, "Shut up."

I chuckled to myself, god I love him.

We turned left at the very back and went upstairs. There there was a hallway with 4 doors.

"That's the bathroom, Mr. Owner's room, that's a closet, and this,", he stopped before the only door with an abnormal doorknob of an apple, " my room!!" His eyes sparkled as he admired his bedroom door. He snapped out of his daze when a soft meow was heard on the other side.

I tensed.

"Waffles!", he opened the door and there greeting him, rubbing at his leg, is the largest, orange demon I've ever seen. Definitely the very spawn of Satan.

"Who's my Waffles? Who's my precious?", Axel cooed.

"Mrow...", its voice shouldn't be that deep.

"Aww!! OF COURSE IT'S YOU!!", Axel cuddled and cradled the demon as it loudly growled in content. How backwards.

"Oh Waffles! I almost forgot about our special guest!", my heart clenched and the jealousy burned brighter with those words, "Waffles, this is my lover~: Forrest!!"

The eyes of that thing looked at me as if I was a mere worm. Then it sneezed. I smiled as I tried to control myself, evil thoughts just begging to be acted on. I didn't want to have my mate despise me after finally finding him.

I remained still, the cat and my eyes in a staring battle of dominance.

Axel kissed behind its ears and set it down where it belonged. He walked to me and grabbed my hands in his, examining them.

"I guess I misunderstood, you don't like cats huh?", he smiled asking this, not a hint of sadness in his voice.

I let out a heavy sigh, "I...they're-...no, I don't like them....", my shoulders dropped preparing for his disappointment.

Instead he laughed. That soft, gentle, and melodious laugh.

"Man, I'm guessing 'mere words can't describe them' means you detest them huh?", he smiled up at me.

I smiled back, "Yeah."

We sat down on his bed, talking about Waffles and such. Then he had her and me bond, with her on my lap as I pet her though she'd just get up back to Axel each time.

"How'd she get this big? You feed her the bad dogs?"

"Haha! No! She's a Maine Coon! They're the largest domestic cats! Isn't she amazing?"

"Ah, and here I was beginning to think it was all fat.", he smacked my arm for that in a playful manner and I just chuckled. I admit, with him, cats aren't as demonic as they usually seemed.

Later on, it began getting dark and Axel looked at me sadly with those big eyes of his.

"Are you going to leave soon? I mean, it's getting late...we do have training tomorrow.."

My eyes widened in shock and I immediately pulled him to my embrace, "No. I'm staying with you."

"Bu-"

"No. I finally found you after 6 years! I'm not leaving your side!"

He seemed taken aback and rested his head on my chest, "I...forgot about that.."

Time passed as he asked me questions about how I felt not knowing whether my mate was dead or alive, and what got me unusually obsessed with finding my mate in the first place. I answered all his questions honestly and with detail. He listened like a child being told a bed time story, my head resting on his stomach as he laid on his back. He started to yawn and I told him to go to sleep but he refused to until he and I showered. I showered after him, very much against my liking, but then again I didn't want to risk rushing into everything.

I got out with a towel wrapped around my waist and the only clothing he had to offer that actually fits me were boxers.

"Why do you have some large underwear?"

"Well, it sounded my size but apparently not..."

"Why didn't you return it?"

Axel looked at me incredulously, "Nobody's got time for that!"

So I laid with only boxers. It was beyond adorable when he couldn't stop blushing, and getting flustered at the idea of spending the night like this. He eventually did when I told him I was just as flustered as he was. My arms draped over his smaller frame as he cuddled into my chest, fully clothed. He soundly slept, his breathing now in a steady rhythm.

I stayed up thinking about the conversation I had with the Alpha. What bothered me was how she knew who my mate was before I did. Especially how sure she claimed to have felt. But what bothered me most was that before knowing that Axel is my mate, I never took a second look at him. The pack wasn't large, I know I had at least a glance of Axel each other day or so. Now looking back at it, he was even bullied often but just me passing by had the bullies running for cover. Then I remembered the dinner 2 nights ago.

I didn't even know his name.

I looked down at Axel. I told him that I loved him but did I really? Love him for him, and not just because he is my mate? But I have to, I've waited 6 dreadful years for this. I did love him.

"Yes, good! Now, do you know or at least recognize the name Axel Saroon?"

The memory of the Alpha questioning me that night just wouldn't leave my mind. The way she asked it, I hardly acknowledge his existence!

I shut my eyes and pulled Axel's sleeping figure closer to me, sighing heavily and seeking comfort. My eyes shot open when I felt his arms snake around my body. I look down at him and his eyes were staring into my own. I felt as if those eyes asked me if I was alright. My expression softened and content with that, he closed his eyes, returning to his slumber, tightly pressed against my chest. I felt my jaw clench as I just thought of how happy I am to find him. I kissed his head as goodnight, and even fell asleep better than I did with the music and my wolf form.
