Chapter 127
Trapped in Love
Chapter 127 Youâve Mistaken Me for Someone Else The chubby woman grunted, âCompensate with money then! Iâm not asking for much, just 700,000 dollars! I wonât accept a penny less!â
Caroline smiled and replied, âItâs not expensive to address a childâs emotional trauma with 700,000 dollars.â
The chubby woman was astonished and asked, âCan you afford it?â
Caroline confidently said, âYes, of course. However, should we consider the emotional trauma my child endured?â
The chubby womanâs expression changed drastically, âYour child is fine. Why should we even consider it?â
Caroline looked at the surveillance camera in the office and calmly said, âShall we review the footage? I recall you scolding my children earlier, calling them fatherless bastards. Words hurt more than physical violence. Iâm not asking for much, either. One million dollars to compensate for my two childrenâs emotional trauma.â
The chubby woman stood up and scolded, âYour child bullied mine first, and now you want to blame me?â
âI shall settle the score with you then.â A deep voice came from the office entrance just as the chubby womanâs voice faded.
Caroline was stunned, her gaze shifting to the man walking into the room. He had a tall, muscular figure that felt oppressive to everyone present.
The students attending this preschool were children of influential figures.
The chubby woman recognized the person right away. âMr⦠Mr. Jordan!â she stammered.
Evan looked at her sternly. âHow will you compensate for my childâs loss? One million or two million dollars? Or shall I take your whole Wunder Corp.?â
The chubby womanâs face turned ghastly pale. âI was wrong, Mr. Jordan! Please forgive me just this once! It was my sonâs fault. Iâll make sure he apologizes right away. Iâm sorry!â
âDo you think I need money?â Evan said in a cold, mocking voice, âDonât let me see you again, or Iâll make Wunder Corp. disappear from Angelbay in three days.â
âYes, sir!â the chubby woman answered, swiftly running out of the office with her child.
Alice introduced, âMr. Jordan, these are the two children who helped Axel, as I mentioned earlier â
Caroline began to feel uneasy, having the urge to cover her childrenâs faces upon hearing Aliceâs Evan looked stunned upon seeing Liora and Tyler. The girl resembled Caroline, while the boy bore a striking resemblance to Axel.
Abruptly, Evan shifted his gaze to the woman wearing shades. He had a strong feeling that the face hidden beneath them was the one he yearned for day and night.
With a tense expression, Evan instructed, âGo outside, Ms. Young!â
Alice hastily left the office, closing the door behind her. The atmosphere inside grew more awkward and intense.
Caroline felt the urge to run, but her feet seemed frozen in place. Liora and Tyler examined Evan and their mother.
Evan approached Caroline, and his voice shook slightly as he asked, âWho are you?â
Caroline suppressed her panic and answered coldly, âYou must be bored, sir. How many times are you going to ask this question?â
With certainty in his tone but disbelief in his gaze, Evan insisted, âYouâre Caroline Shenton, right?â
Caroline frowned due to his unusually emotional expressionâshe had never seen him like this before. He seemed doubtful yet relieved as if he had finally found someone he had been searching for.
Trying to clarify, Caroline said, âSir, youâve mistaken me for someone else. Iâm not Caroline.â
âYouâre lying!â Evan pointed at the two children. âHow do you explain how similar they look to me?
