Chapter 155
Trapped in Love
Chapter 155 How Much Longer Will You Hide?
Shortly after, Wendy exclaimed, âChief Dunn?â
Caroline turned to follow Wendyâs gaze. A slightly chubby middleâaged man stood there, visibly anxious. However, the handsome man with him caught Carolineâs full attention.
Carolineâs eyes widened, and she clenched her fists as their eyes locked.
âWhy is Evan here? Wasnât he on a business trip? she thought.
Fabian Dunn frowned at Wendy and asked, âWhatâs going on, Walsh? Why hasnât she been released yet?
Wendy explained. âChief, this person looks exactly like the murderer who died while giving birth..
âWhat do you mean âexactly?â Fabian berated, annoyed. âHeâs Mr. Jordanâs girlfriend! This is nonsense!â
Wendy gazed at Evan in confusion, then turned to Fabian. âChief Dunn, the murderer named Caroline Shenton was once associated with Mr. Jordan too. Arenât you concerned that heâs defending a murderer?â she spoke firmly.
âShow me proof!â Fabianâs anger flared.
Reluctantly, Wendy handed over the blood test report. âHer blood type doesnât match.â
âThen release her,â Fabian commanded, growing impatient.
Wendy turned to Caroline. âYouâre free to go.â
Caroline was taken aback but concealed her surprise. âAlright.â
As she walked past Evan, he grabbed her arm and pulled her close.
Caroline found herself leaning against his chest, hearing his steady heartbeat. His voice was cold as he spoke. âThank you for being here, Chief Dunn. Your presence saved my girlfriend from a false accusation.â
Fabian turned and apologized awkwardly. âTm sorry, Mr. Jordan. Detective Walsh is only doing her job.â
Evan sneered and left the hospital, his hand holding Carolineâs.
Caroline struggled to break free, but Evan hushed her, saying quietly, âHelp me out here if you want to stay unnoticed.â
Caroline clenched her teeth, thinking. Whoâs responsible for all this mess? I wouldnât have to hide if you werenât with Daniellaâ
In Evanâs car, Caroline suppressed her anger. The moment Evan entered, she coldly remarked, âAre you mistaking me for someone else? I donât need your helpâ
Sitting in the driverâs seat, Reuben stared at Caroline in a daze. âWhy are you still trying to defend yourself, Ms. Shenton?
Evan gazed at her and said, âYou can fool them, not me.
âI donât get youâ Caroline looked away, furious, her heart racing from the memories of her feelings for Evan âThen why play along? Evan asked with a sly smile on his face.
He had trapped her!
Caroline tightened her lips. âStop assuming, sir. I was not cooperating with you. I was avoiding trouble.â
âReally?â Evan chuckled, leaning closer. âSeems you donât find me troublesome.â
Evanâs audacity left Caroline speechless.
âThanks for tonight. Goodbyeââ
As Caroline reached for the door, Evan wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her closer again.
His warm breath grazed her ear as he asked, his tone chilly, âHow much longer will you hide from me, Caroline?â
