Chapter 192
Trapped in Love
Chapter 192 Are the Children Missing?
Caroline and Evan entered the hospital, both feeling calmer. They rode the elevator to the top floor.
As the elevator doors opened, Carolineâs surprise grew. It was like a spacious apartment up there, divided into five rooms by transparent glass. Sunlight streamed in, illuminating the space filled with flowers and trees. It felt cozy, more like a vacation spot than a hospital.
However, it was nothing like a typical hospital scene. It felt more like a holiday retreat.
Carolineâs attention shifted to the doctors, her gaze fixed on them as she observed the rooms. Her eyes landed on Lily, lying in a bed with a respirator.
Filled with relief upon hearing the steady sounds of the medical equipment, Caroline found some comfort.
The doctor, who had been noting down information about Lily, turned to face Evan. With respect, he bowed and began explaining the situation to Evan in fluent Spanish.
Meanwhile, the doctorâs expression displayed a mix of confusion and dissatisfaction.
Caroline observed their conversation, her concern deepening. âWhat did he say?â
Evan turned his intense gaze toward her. âHe said Lily is no longer in danger.â
âJust that?â Caroline felt puzzled, as she had heard the doctor speak quite a bit just moments ago.
Evan pressed his lips together, his response somewhat vague.
The doctor from Aglait clarified that Lily was supposed to have awakened after her previous brain surgery. The fact that she remained in a coma was perplexing.
However, the doctor currently couldnât pinpoint the exact reason, so he asked Evan if they should consider another brain surgery for Lily.
Caroline wasnât pleased about Lily being moved to this hospital. Plus, the idea of another surgery brought about concerns of its own, considering the risks involved.
Evan needed time to think it over before explaining it to Caroline.
Caroline did not understand Spanish, so she let it go. Even if she was curious, Evan would not tell her more if he was reluctant.
Caroline sat beside the bed and gently held Lilyâs hand.
After a while, she whispered. âThank you.â
Evanâs gaze turned gentler upon hearing that. She finally spoke nicely to him âYou donât have to thank me,â Evan replied. âShe was my employee, too.â
Caroline then fell silent.
In less than half an hour, Evanâs phone suddenly rang.
After picking it up and listening briefly, his face turned icy. âAsk all bodyguards to search around!â
Caroline subconsciously looked at Evan, thinking. What happened? Why does he look so bad? He even asked all the bodyguards to search for a person?
Caroline suddenly thought of her children. Her face soon turned pale, so she hurriedly asked, âAre the children missing?â
Evan stood up aloofly. âNo! I need to go now. You can go home on your own later.â
He then strode out of the room.
Caroline felt uneasy, so she decided to call Axel. 1 Axel answered the call quickly, his young voice brimming with joy. âMommy!â
Upon hearing his voice, Caroline felt a wave of relief.
She wondered, âWhat could have been the reason for Evanâs behavior earlier? Since the kids are fine, is there someone else influencing him so strongly?â
However, Caroline swiftly set those thoughts aside. She realized she didnât need to concern herself with Evanâs matters as they didnât affect her directly.
Caroline refocused and spoke on the phone. âAxel, have you and your siblings had your meals?â
âYes, Mommy. How about you?â Axel asked.
Caroline smiled as she replied, âIâll eat something once weâre done talking. Remember, you all should sleep early, even if your father isnât home, alright?â
âSure thing,â Axel replied. âMommy, do you want to talk to Ty and Lia?â
