Chapter 68
Trapped in Love
Chapter 68 I Donât Have Any Evidence Caroline was taken aback, her mind reeling. âRobin asked you to run me over? And what about the posters at the hospital?â
The bald man replied, âWe were the ones who put up those posters to defame you.â
Caroline couldnât stay seated any longer. She abruptly stood up and confronted them. âDaniella. Do you know her?â
Evan turned to Caroline, who had become unhinged. His eyes reflected a multitude of complex emotions.
But the bald man shook his head. âAs I said before, we only have limited knowledge. I canât guarantee if Robin knows her or not. The truth will only be revealed when you capture Robin.â
Carolineâs face turned as white as a sheet with anger. She knew deep down that Daniella was behind all this, but Daniella was skilled at hiding herself. Even if Caroline found the people who attacked her, she would be powerless against Daniella y way She could only suffer in silence, even if she knew the truth. The forward was to play the fool and continue searching for evidence.
Seeing her trembling in fear, Evan softly comforted her. âCaroline, calm down.â
Caroline turned to look at him, gritting her teeth and suppressing her anger as she asked, âEvan, do you trust me?â
Evanâs handsome face turned serious. âDaniella is incapable of such actions.â
âDo you trust her that much?â Caroline sneered. âOur three years together canât be compared to the short time youâve spent with her? Or is it because she once saved you, so you trust her blindly?
Annoyance flickered across his face. âShow me the evidence.â
Bitterness overwhelmed Carolineâs senses. âI donât have any evidence.â If she did, Daniella wouldnât be so carefree and unaffected.
âThen you donât have the right to accuse her.â Evan frowned. He looked away and stood up, giving an order to the bodyguard. Take them to the police station and have someone continue searching for the mastermindâ
And so, the matter came to an end.
Caroline dragged her exhausted body back to Redwood Neighborhood. She put her phone on her root, immersed in her designs.
Half a month flew by, and it was time for her pregnancy test once again.
Caroline hailed a cab to go to the hospital. After the checkâup, the doctor delivered a shocking statement. âYouâre carrying triplets. Why didnât we discover this earlier?â
Caroline took in a sharp breath. âTriplets?â
The doctor pushed the ultrasound report towards her. âThe ultrasound report doesnât lie. If you donât believe it, you can confirm with a larger hospital. And youâre quite slim. You need to consume more nutritious food, or else it may affect the growth of your babies.â
Caroline didnât know how she managed to walk out of the hospital. The winter sun was glaringly bright.
When she answered Paigeâs call, she was still in a daze.
Paigeâs voice came through the phone, âHey, Iâm here. Are you done with your checkâup? Iâm famished!â
Caroline gulped and whispered, âPaigeâ¦â
Paige was startled by Carolineâs tone. âWhatâs wrong? What happened?â
Caroline pursed her lips. âIâm pregnant with tripletsâ
Silence engulfed them both for a moment.
After a while, Paige took a deep breath and said, âCome over. I need to tell you something.â
Caroline hung up and went to the hospital entrance to meet Paige.
As she got into the car, Paige said, âLetâs set aside the baby talk for now. Thereâs something else. Did you know Evan postponed the engagement?â
Caroline regained her composure, shaking her head in confusion.
During this period, she hadnât paid much attention to her phone, so she was unaware of the situation outside. Besides, Evan hadnât visited her either.
It was likely that he felt embarrassed by how she lost control and flared up in a rage at him in front of so many people that night.
âI accidentally overheard Daniella talking to the boss on the phone and found out about it,â Paige continued. âIâm not sure about the exact reason. But in any case, Evan has been distant towards her lately. If theyâre not getting engaged, I think you should seize this opportunity.â
âWhy should I pursue a man who doesnât trust me?â Caroline cracked a bitter smile.
Paige persisted, âBut youâre carrying his triplets now!â
Caroline rubbed her temples, feeling a headache coming on. âLetâs discuss that after the New Year.
Paige nodded and changed the subject. âHow about a New Yearâs Eve countdown together tomorrow?â
Caroline smiled helplessly. âYou should be with your parents. Iâll be fine alone.â
âStop pretending!â Paige glared at her. âI can see the loneliness on your face.â
They chatted until they reached the city center, where they went to a highly regarded restaurant for a meal.
Caroline had booked a private room in advance while they were on the way there.
As she climbed the stairs, she overheard Daniellaâs voice.
âEvan, please donât rush off. Can you take a look at this first?â
