Daniella clung to her hair, pleading for Evanâs help incessantly.
Evan swiftly approached and firmly grasped Carolineâs hand, forcing her to let go.
âWhy did you slap her?â Evan interrogated, his tone icy.
Caroline, devoid of expression, locked eyes with him. âI slapped her because I felt like it. Why? Do you want to slap me on her behalf?â
She took a step closer to Evan.
âIâm right here, in front of you. Go ahead and seek revenge for her. Do whatever you want. I wonât resist. After all, I almost died. I fear nothing now.â
Evan narrowed his eyes coldly.
âCaroline, canât you speak sensibly?â
âNo, I canât!â Caroline defied him. Slowly, she extended her finger, pointing at Daniella. âGet her out of my sight. Otherwise, Iâll slap her every time I see her.â
The air around the man turned gid due to her words.
Meanwhile, Lily was terrified, trembling uncontrollably. She hurriedly stepped forward, attempting to persuade Evan. âSir, please donât blame Ms. Shenton. It was my fault. I failed to address Ms. Love as Madam, so she slapped me. Ms. Shenton did this because of me. Sir, please let Ms. Shenton off the hook.â
Upon hearing Lilyâs words, Evan looked at her red and swoll flickered in his eyes.

âEnough!â Evan coldly cut her off.
âIâll have the driver take you back to International Residence immediately.â
Daniella stared at Evan in shock, her words faltering. âWhat did you say?â
Evan tilted his body, his gaze aloof. âDo you need me to repeat myself?â
Daniellaâs lips quivered, her face filled with grievances, âBut Caroline slapped me.
âDonât test my patience.â Evan interrupted her once again.
Anger surged within her.
Daniella continued to assert her dominance, interrogating Lily. âHave you forgotten how you should address me?â
Lily held her face, her eyes turning scarlet as she hastily apologized. âIâm sorry. Iâm so sorry, Ms.
Love. Itâs my faultâ¦â
Caroline interjected forcefully, âYou did nothing wrong!â
She pushed the blanket aside and dragged her weary body out of bed. Stepping forward, she approached Daniella with a cold expression. âApologize to Lily!â
Daniella was taken aback by Carolineâs icy and stern gaze, taking a couple of steps back in slight fear.
âDo you expect me to apologize? Dream on!â
In a swift motion, Caroline extended her hand, gripping Daniellaâs long hair tightly. With great force, she made Daniella bend over, eliciting a scream of pain.
Carolineâs eyes burned with deep anger. âIâll ask you again. Are you going to apologize?â
âNo, I wonât. Caroline, how dare you do this to me! My grandpa wonât let you get away with it! Ahâ¦)
Caroline firmly grasped Daniellaâs long hair and forcefully slammed her to the floor. She then swiftly straddled Daniellaâs body and delivered a series of slaps.
âI told you to apologize. Now!â
Caroline continued to slap her, unable to contain her rage. In the midst of it, Lily rushed forward, pleading desperately.
âMs. Shenton, stop slapping her, please.â
However, something seemed to possess Caroline, preventing her from stopping. She couldnât control herself. After repeatedly slapping Daniella, a sudden angry roar from behind broke through the chaos.
âCaroline!â
Caroline abruptly halted, a moment of clarity washing over her.
As she looked at Daniellaâs tearâstreaked, red and swollen face, her resentment seemed to subside.
She clenched her jaw and stood up, still gripping Daniellaâs long hair tightly.
Turning around, she stared at Evan with cold eyes. âWhatâs the matter? Do you feel sorry for her?â

The air around the man turned frigid due to her words.
Meanwhile, Lily was terrified, trembling uncontrollably. She hurriedly stepped forward, attempting to persuade Evan. âSir, please donât blame Ms. Shenton. It was my fault. With that, Daniella burst into tears. She hastily got up and rushed out of the room.
Caroline sneered. It was rare to see him being fair for once.
She assumed that he would be fooled by his first love once more.
After Daniella left, Evan turned his gaze toward Lily and said, âJust go to bed.â
Worry laced Lilyâs expression as she glanced at Caroline, who nodded in response. She left the room, leaving the two alone.
âAre you done?â Evanâs voice was low as he questioned Caroline.
Caroline gave him a fleeting look before settling herself by the edge of the bed. Exhaustion weighed heavily on her, and she had no desire to engage in further conversation with him.
Evan pulled a chair from the side and sat down.
âYou shouldnât keep targeting her. Sheâs a Xander now. If the Xanders discover this, they wonât let you off easily.â
Caroline smirked with a hint of sarcasm.
âDo you think Iâm afraid?â
âI donât care if youâre afraid or not. I just donât want to see you becoming a target of the Xanders.â
Caroline looked at him, confusion flickering in her eyes. âHow could he say this? If it werenât for him, would I be facing this situation today? If he had let me go earlier, everything would have ended in the best way.â
Suppressing the ache within her, Caroline pursed her lips and said, âWell, I should thank you for your kindness.â
Evan gradually clenched his fists, his gaze fixed on her indifferent cheek. âRest well. Just sleep.â
With that, he stood up and left the bedroom.
Caroline pulled the blanket over herself, lying in bed as she stared blankly at the ceiling.
She needed to rest and recover. If she didnât, she would never witness Daniellaâs fall from her lofty position into the deep abyss.
At half past ten that night, Paige called Caroline.
She quickly answered the phone and asked hurriedly, âHow did it go? Did you find any detailed clues or bank transfer records? Has she been keeping in touch with Nicholas all this while?â
