Chapter 168
Rebirth of the Wife in Despair
Chapter 168 A Bank Card
Eileen was in her room, secretly sketching. She had to do it covertly as her father
disapproved. She locked the door to ensure her privacy.
After half an hour of drawing, a sudden knock on the door startled Eileen. She quickly put away her
sketchbook and went to answer it.
Seeing the person outside, Eileen asked coldly, âWhat do you want?â
Eric told her, âCome down for dinner.â
Eileen replied. âGot it, Iâll change my clothes and come down.â
Just as she was about to close the door, something blocked it. Eileen saw a foot wedged in the door
gap. âWhat are you trying to do?â she asked.
âWonât you invite me in?â he asked with a smirk.
âYouâre crazy. Itâs time for dinner. Why would you want to come in?â
Seeing his intense gaze. Eileen felt uneasy but reluctantly said, âFine, do as you wish.â
Releasing her grip on the doorknob, she turned around and went to the wardrobe. Taking our her usual
cashmere long skirt, she put it on along with leggings since the house was heated. It wouldnât be too
cold. She walked into the bathroom to change. She didnât forget to tie her long hair into a bun with a ha
tie, letting a few strands fall around her ears.
Eric sat at his desk, tapping his leg rhythmically. There was a workbook on his lap, and he was flipping
through it, page by page.
Seeing him so engrossed, she secretly rolled her eyes. She couldnât understand what was so
interesting about it, thinking he was just pretending.
Today, Eric wore a light-colored sweater, exuding a mature aura. His well-defined facial features were
cold and stern, with a touch of masculinity. His eyes were like deep black holes. hiding countless
secrets.
People like him were skilled at concealing their hypocrisy and desires.
In the capital circle, Eileen had attended gatherings before and met handsome men, including
professional models and somewhat famous actors.
Compared to them, Eric was not outstanding, but he had a unique temperament.
Once one locked eyes
with him, one could tell that he had experienced a lot.
He emitted a fierce aura that surpassed many others. In his presence, people unconsciously felt
inferior.
His mere presence could send shivers down oneâs spine.
Yet, despite being such a person, he remained calm and composed, handling everything with case and
grace.
Even though many women knew Eric was not a good man and was extremely dangerous, they were
still eager to be with him.
She was one of them.
Former mistresses who had been with Eric in her past life found it difficult to break free once entangled
with him.
However, in this life, before Vera got into trouble, Eileen rarely saw many women around him, except
for Lilian, whom she had encountered last time.
In her understanding, Lilian should be his first woman.
But Lilian was already dead. He must know about it.
She wondered if he was upset now that his girlfriend of one year was dead.
Well, Eric was ruthless, never allowing anything to disturb his composure. He always handled things
with ease.
Out of the corner of his eye, the man saw her emerge to sit at the vanity, a pair of pearl earrings in her
hand. He wondered what she was daydreaming about. Suddenly, Eileenâs fingers loosened, and the
earrings fell to her feet. As she bent down to pick them. up, Eric moved faster, picking them up before
she could.
âThank you,â she said as she reached for the earrings, but instead of giving them to her, Eric helped
her put them on.
She froze in place, not daring to move.
âWhat are you thinking about? You seem so engrossed.â Eric stood beside her, his tall figure shielding
her from the glaring sunlight.
âItâs nothing.â
âThe other oneâ¦â
Eileen hastily stood up. âNo need, I can do it myself. Iâll go down first.â
âEileen! Eric!â Veraâs voice echoed as she quickly appeared at the door. âEric, youâre so slow! Iâm
already done. Letâs go
eat!â
Vera had never been to Eileenâs room before and curiously looked around. The room was spacious and
luxurious.
âYou guys go ahead. Iâm almost ready. I just need to change my shoes.â
Eileen walked over to the shoe rack, slipping on a pair of flat Blake cashmere shoes. They were warm
and could also be worn as slippers.
Downstairs, Will had already sat on the couch in the hall. Several monetary gift envelopes were placed
on the tea table.
Following their family tradition, on the first day of the New Year, Eileen had to greet Will in order.
Will did not have many rules when facing Eric, but he was strict with Eileen.
As for Veraâ¦
She wasnât adopted by Will but was still part of the family. Therefore, she wasnât obligated to follow the
Swan familyâs rules.
Eileen bowed to Will. âI wish you good health and happiness in the new year, Father.â
âGet up!â Will handed over a thick envelope.
Eileen accepted it with both hands. The weight inside indicated there was at least ten thousand. âThank
you, Father.â Eileen showed a genuine smile.
After she received Willâs monetary gift, Eric took out another envelope from his suit pocket. âThis is for
you.â
âNo need. Father has already given me money. Eric, itâs not easy for you to make money,â Eileen said.
âIâve given Vera hers.â
Eileen glanced at Vera.
Vera smiled and said, âAccept it. Eric is pretty generous!â
Eileen reached out to take the envelope, but Eric didnât release his grip on it. âWhat about your
blessings?â
Eileen raised her eyebrows slightly. âMay you live a long life and find
your true love soon.
Chapter 168 A Bank Card
Hopefully, youâll get me a sister-in-law soon so that Father will get to hold his grandchild
next year.â
After she finished speaking, she unceremoniously withdrew her hand.
Ignoring him, she turned around and left without a word.
Touching the envelope, she felt something hard inside. It didnât seem like cash and was more like a
card,
After finishing her meal. Eileen returned to her room.
She opened Willâs envelope and counted at least ten thousand inside.
As for Ericâsâ¦..
Eileen tipped it over, and out came a bank card.
What does he mean?
Disgusted, she threw it aside.
She couldnât bear to use any of the money he earned.
Eileen powered on her fully charged phone and glanced at the messages she had received.
She noticed a New Yearâs greeting from Jasper that had been sent exactly at midnight.
By that time, she was already asleep.
Eileen immediately responded to him: âHappy New Year.â
Just as she sent the message, he called.
The sudden vibration startled Eileen.
Eileen calmly answered the call.
âDid you just wake up?â His exhausted voice resonated through the phone.
Eileen replied, âNo, my phone ran out of battery last night, and I just saw your message after turning it
on. How about you? Havenât you rested?â
Immediately after she asked that question, Fabianâs voice urged, âMr. Smith, the flight tickets have
been booked. We can depart now.â
âGreat. Go ahead and make the necessary preparations.â
âUnderstood, Mr. Smith.â
