Chapter 186
Rebirth of the Wife in Despair
Chapter 186 Free At Noon
Vera pursed her lips, gazing at the neatly bound notebook, feeling an indescribable sensation. in her
heart.
âEileen, I gave you the notebook. Why did you give it to Elm? Everyone in school is talking
about it. 1â¦â
Oh, sheâs here because of that,
Eileen quickly apologized, âIâm sorry. I shouldnât have given your notes to Elm. I thought he would make
a copy, but I didnât expect him to tear them up.â
âEileen, I didnât really want to tell you this. I just didnât want Eric to misunderstand. You know, weâve
finally gotten together, and I donât want him to be unhappy because of these things.â
âI understand. If Eric misunderstands, I will explain it to him.â
Vera noticed the workbook on her desk again. She picked it up and glanced at it. âDid you buy this
workbook?â
âItâs from Mr. Gardner.â
âIs that so? This workbook seems to be newly released this year.â
âReally? Iâm not too sure about that. If you want, I can make a copy for you. The problems in
it are a bit more challenging than the ones we had in the Olympiad Math Class. Itâs been quite some
time, and Iâve only managed to finish half of them.â
Just then, the school bell rang for class.
Eileen decided to lend her the workbook.
Vera would return it to her this afternoon. She still had a few pages from the previous workbook to
complete.
The last class of the morning was the weekly break period on Monday.
Today, it was Class One, Class Two, and Class Threeâs turn.
During the last class, Eileen sat in the classroom, flipping through fashion magazines to pass the time.
The extra books for these extracurricular activities were randomly picked from the shelves behind the
classroom.
âEileenââ

Hearing a voice, Eileen turned her head to see a girl knocking on the window. She opened it,
recognizing the girl with a ponytail and a slightly chubby face. She seemed familiar. âOh?â
âDo you recognize me? My name is Natalie Scott, Iâm in the class next door. Are you okay? Youâve
been on leave for so long, I thought you wouldnât return to school. Iâm glad to see youâre fine!â
Her eyes were large and round, as innocent and endearing as a fawn. When she smiled, her eyes
curved like crescent moons, giving her an innocent appearance.
âThank you for what you did last time!â
âNo problem at all! By the way, why arenât you out having fun? I heard thereâs a basketball game at the
gym, and there are lots of handsome guys there!â
Eileen gave a slight smile. âI think Iâll pass. I still have some problems left to solve.â
Natalieâs eyes sparkled. âThere are a few questions I donât understand. Can you help me?â
Eileen told her, âSure.â
âIâll go get my homework,â Natalie said cheerfully as she ran off.
After a while, Eileen didnât see Natalie coming over as expected. Instead, she heard the sound. of an
argument coming from next door.
âAre you
blind? You stepped on my foot when the path is wide.â
âIâm sorry, Calliope. I didnât mean to do it. Iâll wipe it clean for you right now.â
âWipe it clean? Do you know how much these shoes cost?â
Tll compensate you right now.â Natalie pulled out a pink wallet. âCalliope, I didnât bring much money
today. Is three thousand enough?â
âAre you trying to get rid of a beggar? No wonder youâre a country bumpkin who struck it rich. You only
have a little money. I bought it for a hundred thousand, but since weâre classmates, you only need to
compensate me fifty thousand.â
âFifty thousand? But I donât have that much money. Natalie bit her lip in grievance, her eyes suddenly
becoming teary. She looked pitiful.
âElm, look at her! She stepped on my shoes and told me she had no money. These shoes are a limited
edition pair my mom gifted me for my birthday. They are imported from Friyx.â Calliope said coyly. She
was sitting on Elmâs lap, her arms wrapped around his neck.
With one hand casually draped around her waist and a pen in the other. Elm was reading at

question, his expression languid and nonchalant. Then tell her to kneel down and wipe it
clean,â he said.
Everyone else on the side was watching the show with smiles on their faces.
Calliope sneered, lifting her stained shoe. âWhat are you looking at? Kneel down and clean it. Donât you
understand?â
âO-Okay.â
Calliope wasnât a native of Hulbury. She moved from a rural area to the city. Her family had made a
considerable fortune selling pork. It was only after they moved to Hulbury that she transferred here
during the eleventh grade.
However, the school was not as she had imagined. Instead of being welcoming to the new student, she
was ostracized in her class simply because her family sold pork.
Her family didnât just rely on one source of income as they also sold truffles and cartilaginous.
Despite trying to explain, they didnât listen and instead ridiculed her.
âWhat kind of shoes are so expensive, costing fifty thousand?â
Hearing the voice at the door, Natalie smiled like she had seen her savior. âEileen!â
Eileen had heard their conversation next door.
Eileen walked over, looking at the pricey shoes. Indeed, they were limited edition, with only five pairs
released worldwide. However, this pair must be fake.
Yet, she didnât expose it because all five pairs were in her shoe cabinet..
She hadnât worn them because they were too expensive, though not as exaggerated as claimed.
âIâll compensate for the cleaning of the shoes she dirtied.â Eileen took out three hundred from her
wallet. âThis should be enough. Consider the extra as round-trip fare.â
you think
âEileen? This is none of your business. Youâre giving me three hundred only? Do Iâm a beggar? Do you
have any idea how expensive my shoes are!â Calliope stood up angrily. Even so, she was still half a
head shorter than Eileen.
She slapped the money onto Eileenâs face. âDonât think that just because someone is supporting you
now, I wonât dare do anything to you. You better be Swire and mind your
own business.â

âShe helped me, so I will involve myself in her affairs.â Even without Jasperâs support, Eileen wouldnât
stand by passively.
Natalie picked up the money from the ground and nervously placed it on Elmâs desk, then hid behind
Eileen once again.
Throughout, Elm didnât look at Eileen, focusing on solving the problems in his workbook.
Eileen could sense that he was distracted.
Is he feeling guilty or uneasy?
Eileen didnât say anything more and left Class Two with Natalie.
Inside the classroom, Eileen pulled an extra stool over for her. âIn the future, stay away them. The girls
around him are not easy to deal with.â
âI wasnât paying attention. Besides, I saw her extend her foot. I didnât stop in time and stepped on her
shoe.â
âStart working on your homework. If thereâs anything you donât understand, ask me.â
âOkay. Can I come to you for help if I donât understand anything?â
Eileen glanced at her and lowered her gaze. âIf you donât understand, go ask the teacher! Iâm usually
very busy.â
âOkay!â
Catching a glimpse of his despondent eyes from the corner of her eye, Eileen felt her heart. soften. âIâm
available at noon.â
âOkay.â
