Chapter 20
Rebirth of the Wife in Despair
Chapter 20 Is That What She Taught You All These Years?
âThe carâs ready, Sir. Are you really going to the Smiths?â
âWhy canât I?â A young man in a blazer sitting on a wheelchair asked. There were tattoos peeking
through his sleeves, and he radiated an air of authority.
âBut Madam saidâ¦â
Jasper looked up, staring at the butler coldly. âWhat I do is none of her business!â
âIâm sorry, Sir, I shouldnât have said that. Let me take you downstairs now.â
Jasper was leaving the house for the first time in years. He had not seen the sun outside in a long time.
He saw that the weather was lovely outside, just like Eileen had said.
An hour later, Jasper had arrived at the massive Smith mansion. There were over ten servants waiting
for him as the car slowly rolled up to the front door.
A servant walked up with a wheelchair, and another helped him onto it. âWelcome home, Mr. Smith
Jasper did not react much to this.
He had forgotten how long it had been since he had come back.
âOh my, Jasperâ¦â
A hoarse voice rang from nearby, followed by the sight of an old lady hobbling over holding a cane.
John Smith hurried up to her from behind. âSlow down, Mom.â
Jasper saw the old woman, and said, âGrandma.â
There were tears in Old Mrs. Smithâs eyes. âYou finally came back to see me.â
Jasper nodded, before spotting the middle-age man behind his grandmother. The two men locked
eyes, and Jasper looked away coldly.
âGrandma, Iâm back to do somethingâ¦â
âYes, you can get to it after you eat.â
Jasper was pushed into the dining room. The dining table was laden with all his favorite food.
Old Mrs. Smith had heard he was coming, and kicked everyone else out of the house in fear that they
would make him uncomfortable.
Her eyes reddened, looking her grandson up and down. âYouâre all thin now, Jasper. Eat more.â
âThank you, Grandma.â
John saw this, and said in an attempt to please his mother, âHow have you been these years? I heard
didnât go to school? Your entrance exams are coming up, would you like to sit for them? I can enroll
you into a school if you would like that.â
Jasper took a bite of fish. âIâve been good these past few years. Itâs a little late for you to be caring for
me, isnât it, Dad?â
John shifted uncomfortably in his seat, his gaze growing cold.
âYou donât have to worry about me, Dad. Iâm perfectly fine.â
John still felt a little guilty about Jasper.
âSince youâre back, you can just stay here from now on. Weâve cleaned up your room.â
Old Mrs. Smith said, âYes, yes. Iâve kept your room this whole time, you should move back in.â
you
âThatâs fine. Iâve got no place in this house, I donât want to get in anyoneâs way here.â Jasperâs tone was
icy.
Old Mrs. Smithâs expression darkened at once. âWho said that? Youâre the only grandson we have, and
youâre going to take on the family business. Who else is going to live here, if not you?â
Jasper did not know that no one had been allowed into the Smith household after John had married.
Roxanne.
Even Elm was no exception.
âWatch your tone, Jasper. Is that what she taught you all these years?â
Jasper clenched his chopsticks, his veins popping. âWhat sheâs taught me is none of your business,
Dad!â
âI never wanted to disrupt any of you. Iâm sorry, Grandma.â
Old Mrs. Smith sensed Jasperâs mood, and put a wrinkled hand over his. âWhatâs the matter, Jasper?
Were you bullied by anyone? You can tell me⦠Iâll stand up for you!â
âThatâs alright.â Jasper put down the fork he was holding, wiping his mouth before looking at the man.
behind me. âDid you bring him here?â
The butler said, âHeâs outside the door.â
Jasper waved a hand.
Two bodyguards appeared at the door with a man in tow. He was wearing a black T-shirt, and covered
in injuries as he was thrown to the ground.
John saw who it was, and widened his eyes. âElm?â
Elmâs face was covered with bruises. His hands were ben in weird directions as his wrists had been
broken, lying on the ground semi-conscious as he glowered in front of him.
Old Mrs. Smith looked disgusted at once. âThis good-for-nothing. Why did you bring him here, Jasper?â
John seemed to panic. âJasper, thatâs your brother!â
âIâm sure he knows why I did this, and who he messed with.â Jasper looked at John calmly. âIf you wonât
discipline him, I will. Make sure he remembers who he is, and doesnât step out of line just because heâs
entered the Smith family!â
Johnâs expression darkened, but he was unable to say anything with his mother around.
âAlso, one last thingâ¦â
âI donât have a brother. My mother only gave birth to one son.â
Jasper was pushed away by the butler, and he glanced at Elm on the floor one last time. âRemember,
there are some people you can mess with, and some you just shouldnât!â
âThis is your last warning!â
Jasper got in the car. The butler turned around, and saw Jasperâs face creased in pain. âIs your leg
hurting again, Sir? Weâd better make a trip to the hospital.â
âItâs fine. Letâs go back!â Jasper opened his eyes, holding back the pain. âIs Eileen better now?â
âSheâll be able to get out of bed in a few more days. The doctor said sheâs recovering pretty well.â
âIs that so? Thatâs great.â
âOh, right. Ms. Swan told the florist you hired to send her flowers that the flowers were beautiful, and
she liked them a lot.â
âThatâs good.â Jasper smiled faintly.
He thought of something, and took out a black velvet box from his pocket. He opened it to reveal a
crystal necklace in the shape of a moon.
He had prepared it as a gift for her when they met.
Jasper had designed it himself.
He was looking forward to putting it on Eileenâs neck.
The butler stole another glance at Jasper. He had never been quite this happy ever since the accident.
