Chapter 269
Rebirth of the Wife in Despair
Chapter 269 Devouring Five Bagels
Eileen switched off the light, unsure if he had left or not.
Terrified that he might actually leave, she put on her pajamas and went to the master bedroom next
door.
No sooner had she laid down than the person beside her moved closer, embracing her from behind. A
relaxed, casual voice sounded in her ear. âWhere have you been?â
Eileen answered somewhat absentmindedly, âI didnât want to wake you, so I took a shower in my room.
Go back to sleep.â
âMmm.â Jasper, soothed by her pleasant scent, quickly fell back asleep.
Eileen reached out and turned off the lamp on the bedside table. Immediately, the entire bedroom was
plunged into darkness. With her eyes closed, she forced herself not to overthink. Considering Ericâs
current capabilities, he wouldnât dare to confront the Smith family. In the future, I will become Jasperâs
wife, and there will be absolutely no further entanglement between us.
Although she truly feared Ericâs threats and tricks, she was certain that things from the past wouldnât
continue.
She couldnât let him continue to threaten her repeatedly.
Before she knew it, sleepiness overcame her, and she quickly drifted off to sleep.
The following day at dawn, the remnants of the morning glow descended.
Eileen stretched lazily. As she peeked out from under the blanket, the first thing she saw was a man
with a smile playing on his lips.
âGood morning.â
Eileen replied, âGood morning.â
âItâs getting late. Time to get up?â
âWhat time is it?â
âTwelve oâclock.â
Eileen hadnât expected to sleep in so late. âWhat time did you wake up? Why didnât you wake me?â
âMy future wife can afford to be lazy and sleep a little longer. Iâll get up first to squeeze out the
toothpaste for you. Remember to change your clothes.â
Eileen said, âOkayâ
After Jasper changed his clothes, he squeezed out some toothpaste for her. Handing it over, he noticed
the bluish hue under her eyes reflected in the mirror. âDo you think we should consult a psychiatrist?
You were talking in your sleep all night.â
Eileen paused in brushing her teeth. âWhat did I say?â
Jasper embraced her from behind, his arms wrapped around her waist. He lowered his head to kiss her
neck, murmuring, âI forgot. I didnât hear clearlyâ
1/4
âReally? I canât even remember what dream I had last night.â Eileen spat out the toothpaste foam,
quickly finished brushing her teeth, took the towel he handed over, and wiped her mouth. âBy the way,
is Natalie better? Letâs go to the hospital to see her later.â
If it hadnât been for Natalie pushing her away at that time, she would have been the one lying injured in
the hospital.
âAll right. Iâll accompany you later.â
After what happened the day before, Jasper wouldnât dare to let her go out alone anymore.
For her, being alone was too dangerous. He wouldnât be at ease.
That day, Jasper took a rare day off and personally drove his car.
Upon arriving at the hospital, an unnatural glint flashed in Eileenâs eyes. Why is it this hospital?
Fabian walked out of the hospitalâs main entrance. âHi, Mr. Smith. Hi, Ms. Eileen.â
Is Fabian still in the hospital? Could he have been busy all night? Eileen was confused.
Upon entering the inpatient departmentâs elevator, Fabian pressed the button for the floor.
Jasper asked, âHow is the situation being handled?â
âItâs almost done. The vagrant from last night is indeed the murderer the police have been hunting. Heâs
been responsible for the assault and murder of numerous students over the past six years. Recently,
heâs been lurking around the entrances of various universities, specifically targeting students who are
alone,â Fabian said.
Eileen was bewildered when she heard that. Oh? Is that it? But why would Eric want to harm him? I
donât believe itâs to help the police catch someone. It clearly seemed like he wanted to put someone in
a deadly situation. Why would Eric have a grudge against him, to the point of having Lionel personally
apprehend him?
Eileen brought a bouquet of sunflowers purchased from the shop she frequented. By the time she got
there, it was the last bunch left.
In the ward, Natalieâs family was present, and Benjamin and Jason had not left either.
Natalie was munching on an apple and a peach simultaneously. Seeing her hearty appetite, it seemed
her worries were unnecessary. However, seeing that she was fine, Eileen also felt relieved. Towards
Natalie. Eileen felt not only gratitude but also guilt.
Upon spotting Eileen at the door, Natalieâs eyes lit up with joy. âEileen!â she exclaimed, her happiness
evident.
Jasper didnât like crowded places, so he and Fabian decided to wait outside.
Eileen walked into the ward, seeing a couple in front of her, one plump and the other thin. For a
moment. Eileen couldnât tell at all who Natalie resembled.
Wade Scott, Natalieâs father, said, âYouâre here to see Natalie, arenât you?â
Eileen nodded. âYes.â
Pauline Rich, Natalieâs mother, uttered. âYou guys chat then. Her father and I are just about to go
2/1
downstairs to grab a bite. Have a good talk.â
âAll right.â
Wade and Pauline stepped out of the ward, and Eileen overheard their whispered conversation.
Pauline was heard saying, âHow was this child raised? How did she grow up to be so pretty? She
doesnât look like Natalie at all. Natalie can eat five bagels in one sitting. Frankly, Natalie looks like a
bagel herself!â
Wade was heard saying, âIsnât that the truth? Thankfully, weâre not poor. The average family wouldnât
be able to afford to buy her food.â
Natalieâs face fell instantly. âMom, Dad, I heard everything. As soon as you speak, they all know I can
eat five bagels.â
Jason stood to one side, chuckling quietly to himself.
The couple, in a puff of smoke, quickened their pace and left immediately.
Eileen sat by the hospital bed. âWell, youâre quite adorable when youâre a bit chubby.â
Jason couldnât help but laugh out loud. âExactly! Who among ordinary people could eat five bagels in
one sitting?â
Sobbing uncontrollably, Natalie turned to Eileen and said, âEileen⦠Theyâre all laughing at me.â
Jason added, âItâs not just me whoâs laughing, the person next to me is also laughing.â
Benjamin had always been serious, not one to joke or laugh easily. However, at that moment, it
seemed as if something had amused him, a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.
Eileen set aside the flowers and reassured Natalie, âThey wonât reveal your secret. You guys must be
exhausted after taking care of her all night. You should go home and rest early. Iâll stay here and keep
an eye on things.â
Benjamin glanced at his phone to check the time. âYes, that works. I have some matters to attend to at
home. Iâll leave the rest to you. Thanks.â
Jason left with Benjamin.
Eileen continued chatting with Natalie in the ward. After more than an hour, the doctor and nurse came
to check Natalieâs physical condition. Her neck was wrapped in gauze, and when it was unwrapped, the
wound had already scabbed over and was not a major concern.
The doctor reassured Natalie, âActually, thereâs nothing to worry about. Youâre healthy in all other
aspects. Once the fees are settled, you can be discharged.â
Natalie replied, âOkay. Thank you, Doctor.â
The fees had already been paid by Jasper to Fabian a long time ago.
Wade was having a friendly chat with Jasper. Meanwhile, Eileen stepped forward and opened the
passenger door for Natalie. âGo home and rest well Your exams are coming up. If thereâs anything you
donât understand, feel free to call me.â
Before leaving, Natalie gave Eileen a tight hug Eileen, remember to come visit my home in the future I
will miss you.â
Eileen responded, âI definitely will.â
Watching them leave, Eileen was far from feeling at ease.
Jasper walked over and took her hand. âIf youâre still worried, we can visit the Scott residence in a
couple of days.â
âMaybe itâs best not to disturb herâ¦â
Just as they were about to leave, Eric helped Vera out of a black car. Her arm was wrapped in a towel,
and she leaned weakly against Eric, looking frail and thin.
