Chapter 8
Rebirth of the Wife in Despair
Chapter 8 The Young Man In The Wheelchair
The conversation continued behind the wall. âHow about we go out for a walk, Jasper? Youâve been
staying home for a very long time. Iâm worried about you.â âI donât need your concern. A useless piece
of sh*t like me would be better off dead! Get out, all of you!â Yet another ear-piercing noise rang out as
he broke a hole in the window. âA-All right. Iâll leave. Please donât hurt yourself.â Eileen was shocked.
Although she couldnât hear the conversation very clearly, she could tell that it was between a mother
and son. Sharon glanced in Eileenâs direction and said regretfully, âThe one staying next door is the
heir of the Smith family. He got into an accident when he was little and had been staying indoors ever
since. That poor thing⦠I think he isnât quite right in the head.â Eileen nodded in response and fell into
deep thought. In her past life, Jasper was eighteen when he committed suicide by slitting his wrists. He
was already dead by the time the ambulance arrived. Eileen was watching from the balcony as the
paramedics covered his lifeless body with a white blanket and carried it into the ambulance. Apparently,
he had been dead for two days before they discovered his body in the bathroom. As Eileen glanced at
the cake on the table and stared at the wall, a thought suddenly formed inside her head. She then cut a
huge slice of the cake, placed it carefully inside a box, and tied a ribbon on it. âIâll be right back, Sharon.
Help me put the cake in the refrigerator.â Sharon could only shake her head helplessly in response as
Eileen had run off before she could ask where she was going. Eileen ran into her bedroom, grabbed a
pen and a piece of paper, and retrieved her drone from storage. She had bought that drone when she
was fifteen, only to leave it aside after playing with it for a few days. This time, however, she was able
to put it to good use. After writing a note and attaching it to the ribbon, she made her way into the
courtyard with the cake and drone in hand. As the mansions were connected, Eileen attached the box
containing the cake onto the drone and flew it in through the broken window. Jasper sat on a
wheelchair, his gaze fixated venomously on a blade lying amidst broken glass on the floor. Spending all
of his time indoors had left his skin pallid, exuding a sickly and somber aura. Why would my parents
bring me into this world if they donât love each other? Now that they both have their own respective
families, what will become of me? Iâm just a cripple that nobody wants! Jasperâs eyes darkened,
growing gloomier as he struggled to rise from his wheelchair. His legs proved too feeble to bear his
weight, and he crumpled to the floor seconds later. Broken glass cut into his palms, causing them to
bleed, staining the wooden floorboards a vivid red. Undeterred, he retrieved the blade from the
shattered glass and slid it out. All I have to do is slash my wrists open with this razor-sharp blade, and
Iâll be free from my suffering! Out of nowhere, an unidentified object sailed through the window, landing
within the room. Jasper paused, eyeing the object warily. Huh? That looks like a drone⦠It even has a
box attached to it⦠After a brief inspection to ensure its harmlessness, he picked up the box. Within,
he found a note attached that read: My name is Eileen Swan. Iâm your neighbor, and itâs my birthday
today. I baked this cake myself. Please have some! Iâll come visit you every day from now on, okay?
Eileen Swan? Sheâs coming to visit me every day? Jasper eagerly tore open the box and devoured the
cake. The sweetness on his tongue and the delightful aroma enveloping him brought a warm sensation
to his heart. In that moment, the urge to end his own life faded away. After staring at the broken window
for quite some time, Eileen directed her drone back to her. A few minutes later, the drone landed next
to her feet, and a smile appeared on Eileenâs face as she saw that he had eaten the cake. he reason
behind her action eluded her, but perhaps it was a shared understanding of being abandoned by those
close to them. If she could, Eileen wanted to prevent him from ending his life this time.
