Chapter 281
Edgar’s Relentless Pursue for The Love of His Life
Chapter 281 Undeserved Gentleness
When Edgar arrived at the hospital, Jean had already changed into her casual clothes and was sitting in the ward gazing at the scenery while waiting for him.
Edgar opened the door to see Jean looking tranquil and gentle with her hair hanging down. As the breeze ruffled her hair, the image of her closing her eyes and feeling the wind was imprinted in Edgarâs mind.
Edgar tightened his grip on the handle, and his heart sank. âWhy didnât you wait for me to help you pack?â
His eyes were tinged with worry, not only because of Jeanâs health condition, but also because she could regain her memory at any time. Perhaps that was why she refused to let him accompany her last night.
âHey, Edgar!â Jean turned around and walked over gleefully to hold Edgarâs arm. âI can pack on my own. I didnât want to worry you, so Iâve completed the discharge procedure. Letâs go.â
Edgar hesitated for a while and stared fixedly at her. âWhatâs wrong?â Jean batted her eyes in confusion. âIs anything wrong with me?â
Moments later, Edgar mumbled, âNothing, Letâs go.â âOkay. Letâs go home.â Holding Edgarâs arm, Jean could feel his muscles remain stiff.
The moment they got into the car, Jean drew close to Edgar and asked, âWhy did you look so anxious just now? Is it because youâre cheating on me and youâre worried that Iâll find out?â
Edgarâs pupils dilated as he became tongue-tied.
âIâm just kidding. I know you dislike behaving in an intimate manner. Iâll be more alert when we go out next time. Letâs go. I canât wait to get home.â
Edgar suppressed his emotions and continued to stare at Jean for a while, as if he was trying to confirm something. Later, he uttered slowly, âYou think I dislike being intimate with you?â
Jean hummed in response and said in a calm tone, âOtherwise, why would you go on a business trip right after we got married? They said you did so to avoid me.â
Her tone was so calm that it was as if she was talking about other peopleâs matters.
âBut donât worry, Edgar, Iâm willing to wait for you. No matter how long, or how far, Iâllâ¦â
Before she could finish her sentence, Edgar pulled her into his warm arms. Jean was stunned for a second before she reached out her arms to embrace him.
âWeâll be together forever and ever. You wonât be able to ditch me.â
Edgar tightened his embrace as he experienced a mixture of complicated and painful emotions. He had done such a terrible thing that even he couldnât forgive himself.
âEdgar, your hands are cold. Let me warm them.â
Edgar couldnât tell why his heartbeat accelerated. Even he himself didnât realize his eyes were tinged with gentleness as he fixed his gaze upon Jean all the way home.
âGo upstairs and rest first. I have some matters to settle.â
Jean was perplexed at his solemn tone and expression. Nonetheless, she still wore a smile and said, â
Edgar had replaced Jeanâs phone, so people related to Eyer Group were not able to find her. However, there were always unforeseen circumstances.
Jean was insouciantly scrolling through pictures on the Internet when a notification popped up.
âJean, where are you?â
Jean clicked on the notification to see dozens of messages from Ben.
Confused, she replied, âIâm at home. Whatâs up?â
âGive me a call immediately.â
Jean reckoned given Benâs reckless personality, he must have gotten into trouble again and needed her help.
She dialed Benâs number. In no time, Benâs voice came forth. âWhere are you? Are you with Edgar?â
The curtains were blowing in the breeze as Jean smiled and answered, âYeah.â
The noise from the other end of the line was very loud, so Jean figured Ben was driving.
âWait for me. Iâll be right there.â
With that, Ben hung up the call while Jean tilted her head to one side and mumbled, âHe hasnât changed at all.â
As far as she could remember, she had maintained a distance from Ben before her marriage because she knew about his feelings for her. Since they were not meant to be together, she didnât want to cause trouble for all three of them.
However, she was disturbed by Benâs tone just now.
She wanted to stand up and get a glass of water, but had a severe headache the moment she stood up, and her fingers became numb and stiff.
Countless pieces of shattered memories gushed into her mind. It wasnât a nightmare, but she felt as if every nerve of hers was being tortured. Contents belong to NovelDrama.Org
âWhy⦠Edgar Royden, why?!â
Jean was jolted back to her senses by the yelling downstairs.
Her forehead was covered with sweat as she plodded dizzily toward the bathroom.
Meanwhile, downstairs, Ben was desperately trying to barge into the house. âLet her out. You have no right to confine her!â
Looking stern, Edgar stopped Ben. âThings are not what you imagined. Letâs talk outside.â
âWhat else do you want to talk about? You are a hypocritical jerk. You beat her into such a state, yet youâre still thinking of reconciling with her? Ask yourself, are you qualified to be with her?!â Ben lifted his hand and was about to punch Edgar when Jean hurried downstairs and stood in front of Edgar. âBen, please donât!â
âJean, youâ¦â
âEdgar, are you okay?â Jean instantly turned around to ensure that Edgar was fine before she frowned, and questioned Ben, âHow could you hit others? Canât you talk things out properly?â
Ben was dumbfounded. Is this woman, who is defending Edgar, Jean?
Never in his wildest dreams did he think such a situation would occur.
Jeanâs expression turned cold. âStop finding me if you are going to be like this. Edgar is my husband. I wonât allow anyone to gossip about him or hurt him, not even you.â
Holding tight onto Edgarâs arm, she readily defended him as her concern toward him could be clearly observed from her expression.
Edgar furrowed his brows. âJeanâ¦â
âWhat happened?! What the hell did you do to her?!â Ben roared furiously.
Jean gazed back and forth at the two men and reprimanded Ben with a frown, âYouâre too much, Ben! You can talk things out properly. Why do you have to use violence?â
She shoved Ben away forcefully and said, âIâll have to ask you to leave if you continue being like this.â
At that moment, Benâs pupils shivered as he pointed at Edgar and was at a loss for words.
Edgarâs expression remained cold and aloof. He grabbed Jeanâs wrist and said, âCalm down, Jean. There must be a misunderstanding. Iâd like to talk to Ben in private, is that okay?â
âHe wasnât like this before. What exactly triggered him? Make sure you guys are just going to talk and not fight.â After saying that, Jean looked at Ben and continued, âEspecially you. I wonât forgive you if you hurt Edgar.â
To her, it was Ben who barged in and cut up rough, so he was naturally at fault.
âDonât worry.â Saying that, Edgar gave a look to Susan, who was standing behind him. Perceiving his look, Susan quickly walked up and said, âMadam, letâs go upstairs.â
Ben trembled when he heard Susanâs address toward Jean. As soon as Jean disappeared around the corner of the stairway, he grasped Edgarâs collar and glared hatefully at him like a beast. âWhat on earth did you do to her?!â
