DNA [20]
This side of ME
Asher
We left the hospital and went to school directly. We looked miserable to see the least.
"We look horrible man, this look will play a big role in our popularity. Was it really necessary for us to come today?" Alex whined. Chris rolled his eyes at our friend's nonsense.
"Talk about yourself. I look perfect," I smirked.
We stopped talking when we noticed Sara approaching us. What is she doing here?
"You know ditching class and never answering someone's email is an-" she started stopping mid-sentence as she studied our appearances.
A gasp left her mouth, and she quickly covered it with her hand. "I told you we look awful. Even the ugly weirdo noticed, " Alex joked. Touchy, bro. I smirked as I watched her face drop a bit.
"Why didn't any of you reply to their emails? I had to turn it in without any approval," she asked with a fake smile spreading through her face.
"You don't need to complain about everything, little princess. You know that right," I smirked.
Her whole body froze the moment the words came out of my mouth.
"Don't call me that!" She hissed, glaring at me, her voice breaking a bit at the end.
Oh, she hated the name. Okay, then this is what I'm calling her from now on. I smile, crawling to my face at the thought.
"Why is that what your boyfriend calls you, little princess," I said, pushing her buttons.
"Don't. Call. Me. That." She said so low I almost didn't hear it.
"Don't call you what little princess?" I said, acting dumb. I loved how this was affecting her.
"Are you having another panic attack, little princess?"Â I asked, remarking last time.
"Stop!" She demanded quietly.
She closed her eyes as she looked like she was thinking so hard about something. Her eyebrows were pinched together.
"Little princess," I chimed again.
She started taking fast breaths as she looked like she was struggling to breathe. Her whole body was shaking.
Drama Queen. It is just a nickname, nothing.
"Little princess, why aren't you answering?" I asked again. Enjoying her struggle.
"Little pri-" I started but was interrupted.
"I said stop!" She shouted angrily before punching me in the jaw to stop me from talking.
I stumbled back in shock. I did not see that coming. It didn't hurt, but who does she think she is to punch me?
I marched to her, grabbing her hand tightly. I WAS FURIOUS.
"Who do you think you are to punch me?" I shouted, purposely digging my nails deep into her hand.
"Get off me, Asher," she choked out. Obviously hurt from the pressure put on her hand.
Her eyes watered as tears threatened to fall. She was trying so hard to act brave, but her body language gave it all away. She was shaking.
"Asher, let go," she demanded, trying to get away from my grip. I murmured a fine, releasing her hand.
She stumbled back, tripping over her legs, falling to the ground, and hitting her head on a rock.
Omg, that was not my intention. Yes, I wanted to hurt her, but not that much.
"Omg, Sara, are you okay?" Chris said, going to her side.
"What the hell, man!" He fumed at me. I was just standing there frozen in my place.
Oh. My. God. What did I do?
Sara tried slowly to get up and sat in a sitting position on the floor, crossing her legs and groaning.
She touched the damaged area and brought her hand to her line of vision. Her hand was covered in blood. Oh my lord.
"Omg, you're bleeding!" Chris gulped as he reached to help her stand up. She shoved his hand away angrily.
"I don't need your help, Chris," she hissed, standing up but stumbled back and steadied herself by leaning on a tree.
"Sara, we need to get you to the nursing office. You are bleeding! Stop being so stubborn, " Chris said again, frustrated. He walked to her again, trying to take her there.
"Get away from me. I don't need your help, " she screamed, pulling her hand away and pointing a finger at Chris. "Or any of yours. Not that any of you offered, " she continued pointing at Alex and me.
She started slowly walking as she kept swaying left, and right after some steps, she leaned against a tree and slid to the ground.
She started breathing heavily and blinking. After some time, she suddenly started coughing.
Okay, I like to mess with her, but not like this. I opened my backpack, took out a water bottle, and walked to her.
"Here," I said, handing her the water as I hovered over her.
She looked up at me. Pure hatred in her eyes. She quickly stood up.
"You. Are. An. A**hole." She screamed poking me in the chest hardly after every word.
"I told you to stop," she continued, shoving me. My heart clenched at every word. Maybe I took so far this time.
"You didn't,"Â she shoved me again. Tears stream down her face now.
"You knew it bothered me, but you just had to be the jerk you are and keep going!" She continued and tried pushing me again. I grabbed her wrists to stop her.
"I despise you, Asher Alexander Black." She sneered, getting away from my grip.
I looked at her with a blank face.
"You need to go to the nurse," I stated blankly, with no emotion lacing my voice.
"I don't need to do anything, Asher," she spat back.
"Do you have to argue about every minor inconvenience? You can just say okay sometimes I swear it won't kill anyone," Alex joked.
When did they even come close?
"Oh, you think this funny? That this is some sort of joke, right?! Well, news flash it is not. So get your head out of your a** and try seeing that!" She screamed at him.
"Watch how you are talking to me, little princess." He said back with a smirk.
"Why are you going to smash my head open like your friend over here or what?" She challenged.
He took a step forward, threatening her, as he clenched his fists beside him.
She took one forward, too."And don't call me that again, or I swear Alex I wi-" she spat but he interrupted her.
"What are you gonna do if I don't, little princess?" he challenged, taking a further step so they were now face to face.
Chris quickly went and stood between them, pushing Alex back gently.
"She is hurt, man," he whispered to Alex, but we heard him.
"Sara, you need to go to the nurse. You are still bleeding." Chris started. Sara wanted to argue, but he didn't give her a chance.
"And if you don't, I swear I will make Asher carry you there himself," Chris threatened, and I smirked at the idea.
"I would rather die than let this piece of crab touch me again," she snickered, looking at me disgustingly before walking away.
We all walked a few feet behind her. We watched as she entered the nurse's office.
"We are gonna be late, let's go," Alex offered, and I nodded.
"You don't have a lesson, right?" I asked Chris, and he nodded too.
"You guys go. I'll be at the library," he said, and we murmured our goodbyes and headed to class.
The first class was extremely boring since I had no one here to annoy.
We entered the second class and saw Sara sitting alone at the back of the class. I winked at the boys, and they knew exactly what I meant.
I walked to Sara and sat next to her, Alex and Chris, in front of us. We surrounded her.
She glanced up at us and let out a sigh before staring back at her desk blankly.
The teacher walked in and started the lecture. Sara took out her stuff and started writing down notes. We all did the same.
Alex kneeled back with his chair and kept messing with Sara's writing. I smirked as I heard her groan in frustration when he did it for the third time.
She gets annoyed so easily that it is very amusing to watch.
Alex kept bouncing on Sara's desk until the class ended.
Sara just shoved all her stuff into her backpack before quickly leaving. We tried catching up with her, but there was no sign of her. Not in the hallways or the cafeteria.
Sara
"We will need you to come with us to the station, please," the officer replied.
"Why, what happened, sir?" I asked carefully, not wanting to anger him.
"I'm sorry ma'am, but I don't have this kind of information." He replied coldly.
"Okay, can I put my jacket on first?" I asked as he nodded.
I left the door open as I quickly grabbed my jacket and put it on with shaky hands. And put on my shoes before grabbing my phone and keys and walking out with them. I'm making sure to lock the door behind me.
I sat in the back seat of the officer's car. Both of the officers sat in the front. I let out a breath of relief, happy that neither of them sat next to me. I shoved my phone and keys in the pockets of my jeans.
Minutes later, we reached the police station. I got out of the car, and they led me inside the station.
They sat me in a small office as I waited there alone, waiting for someone to come tell me what the hell is going on right now.
As seconds passed, I could feel the panic settling in. Why am I here? What happened?
The door creaked open, revealing an officer. He looked like he was in his mid-thirties. His uniform looked freshly ironed and cleaned.
He cleared his throat and when he saw me he gave me a small smile. It was a reassuring one. Why is he reassuring me? I stood up quickly when he walked to me.
"Hello, I'm Officer Aiden. Are you Miss Sara?" He asked, extending his hand for me to shake. I gave him a firm nod, shaking his hand.
"Take a seat, please," he said, motioning for the seat. I sat down and he took the seat in front of me.
"Your dad.." He started, and my heart sank. I nodded for him to continue as I physically gulped.
"He had a car accident yesterday. He was driving when he was drunk and high. He ran into a gas station." He said, pausing a little for me to understand what he was saying. Please don't tell me he was about to say what I'm thinking his gonna say.
"Unfortunately, the station blew up, and your father was still in the car. He died on the spot. I'm so sorry for your loss, Miss Hopes. " he finished pity flashing through his eyes.
My whole body froze. No words came out of my mouth. It took me some moments before the words finally sank in.
My father died.
My only parent died.
How could he just leave?
A single tear fell from my eyes. How can he leave before he apologizes for what he did to me?
Then the other tear followed. Seconds later, and the other fell before I even knew.
He died.
I let my tears fall freely. I cried because I had no one left. I cried because my only parent died. I cried because he had just left.
He left before making things right. How could he?
The officer came closer to me and put his hand on my shoulder, and I flinched away.
He must think I'm crazy for not breaking down. But what if I am?
I can't cry freely. I don't know why. My throat was just dry. And I can't cry. I was just frozen
My eyes burned. But I just couldn't cry. Just tears streaming down my face as I kept a blank face.
I don't know how to react.
The officer left the office, leaving me alone with my thoughts.
What will I do now? What is going to happen to me? I'm not even eighteen! I don't have any living relatives. Mum and Dad are both only children.
I sat there staring at the door blankly with my tear-stained face. It felt like hours since the officer left, but it was probably just minutes.
The door creaked open again, and Officer Aiden walked in. He handed me a bottle of water, which I took with shaky hands, placing it gently on the table.
"I'm so sorry for your loss, Sara. But we are going to have to take you to take a sample of your blood, " he said gently pity lacing his voice.
My blood-red eyes shot up to meet his. Why are they taking a sample of my blood? It looks like he understood my concern because he said.
"We need to have your DNA, so we can match in the system to see if you have any relatives alive." He explained and nodded.
I'm not about to argue with a police officer. He walked back and opened the door. He waited for a few seconds for me to follow him.
I stood up slowly. My legs were weak, but I pushed them to their limits and followed the officer.
We walked through the corridors of the station. The bright lights blinded me as I squinted my eyes.
We walked until we were standing in front of a door. He knocked gently before pushing the door open.
We entered a room that looked like a small nurse's office. I beautiful woman stood in threw middle of the room.
"How can we help you today, Officer Aiden?" She asked a smile on her face.
"We need you to take Sara's blood DNA so we can match it in the system," he replied a polite smile on his face, too.
"Take a seat, please," she said to me, motioning at the hospital bed that was in the corner.
I walked to her slowly and sat on the bed. "Can you lift your sleeve for me, sweetie?" She asked, her joyful voice sickening. I slowly rolled my sleeve up. Thank god I was not covered with bruises on this hand.
She started preparing the needle and the blood test tube. She put on gloves and sat on the chair in front of me.
She gently took my arm. "You are going to feel a little sting, okay sweetie," she said, and I just nodded.
I stared blankly in front of me as she did her job. "All done," she revealed, and I quickly unrolled my sleeve.
"Name and age?" She asked, looking at Officer Aiden. "Sara Hopes, and she is seventeen," he answered.
She started writing on the tube but stopped when she heard my age. "Seventeen, are you sure she looks fifteen max?" she said, and he just nodded.
She shrugged before continuing to write down my information. She handed me a juice box saying that I would feel dizzy without it.
I took it from her and placed it on the bed near me. I can't drink anything now. I will throw it up if I do.
"The test will take a few hours. Do you want to call anyone?" The officer asked, and I shook my head no.
"Okay then, rest a bit, and I'll be back. In a few," he offered before leaving with the woman who took my blood test. The doctor or whatever.
I sighed and laid back on the bed. I was exhausted. I let my eyes close, and sleep engulfed me for the first time in days.
â~â~â~â~â~â~â
"Miss Sara, Miss Sara," someone called, and I jolted up.
Officer Aiden was standing in front of me with a smile on his face.
"I'm so sorry for waking you, but we got your results back. Your biological father is alive, and he is willing to take you in, " he revealed. I looked at him like he had grown a second head.
"I'm afraid that you are wrong, Sir. My dad died yesterday, " I said, trying to show him that he was saying nonsense.
"I'm sorry, Miss Sara, but you were adopted. Mr John is not your biological father. Your real parents are still alive." He explained, and I felt like my whole life came crashing down.
The family I've been living with my whole life is not my real family.
My mother is not my real mum.
The man who abused me for years is not my father. This can't be happening.
"Are you sure, sir?" I asked my voice hoarse as I started snapping the elastic band I had around my wrist
He just nodded. Pity was obvious in his eyes.
*snap*
My whole life is a big lie.
*snap*
I have alive parents!
*snap*
Suddenly, someone grabbed my hand, stopping me from snapping the elastic band.
"Your father is waiting for you outside. Would you like to meet him?" He asked, giving me a small smile.
I shook my head.
What if he doesn't like me? What if he turned up like my dad? I can't relive this again.
Officer Aiden kneeled to the ground where my eyes were glued.
"Your father is an old friend of mine. Don't worry, he will take good care of you, okay?" He said, trying to reassure me, but I didn't respond.
"Can I let him in?" He asked again, standing up and straightening his uniform. I nodded, not trusting my voice.
There is no point in waiting. I have to go with him sooner or later. I'm still a minor.
He left the room, and minutes later, the door opened again.
It revealed a man. He was wearing a full black suit with a white shirt. He had brown hair and ocean-blue eyes.
We had the same features.
He had his hands in his pockets, and his posture demanded respect. He was scary.
The moment he locked eyes with me, he gave me a bright, genuine smile. His whole posture changed as he suddenly looked friendly.
"Sara, this Mr Dante, your father," Officer Aiden introduced. I hopped down from the bed and went to stand in front of him.
"I'll leave you guys alone," said Officer Aiden before leaving.
I extended my hand for him to shake. "Hello, Mr Dante," I said as he shook my hand.
"Please call me Dante," he said with a smile. I didn't respond.
I tried keeping a steady posture, but I was too tired to do so. He probably pities me now. He is wearing a suit and looking like he owns the world.
On the other hand. I was standing here in a hoodie and jeans. I had my hood up to hide my tangled hair.
"You look exactly like your mother. She will be very happy to see you, " he exclaimed. Yeah, right. If this was the case, why did you guys abandon me?
I wanted badly to scream at him, but I didn't. I just looked at him sceptically.
"Should we go home?" He asked, and I nodded.
He opened the door and started walking toward the exit. The moment the cold air hit me, I took a deep breath.
It was now after midnight. I stopped walking for a few seconds and took some breaths, trying to process everything. Everything is coming at once today.
I opened my eyes and saw Mr Dante standing a few feet away from me. He gave me my space, and I appreciated it.
But I'm not going to get fooled by his actions. Firstly, he abandoned me. And I don't know him, that is second. Most importantly, he looked dangerous.
I walked to him as we entered the parking lot. He stood in front of a black e63s AMG.
"Is this your car?" I asked the words slipping out of my mouth. He let out a small giggle before taking the keys out of his pocket and opening the car.
He opened his door and waited for me to get in before he slid inside, too. I carefully closed the car door, not wanting to anger the stranger sitting next to me.
I rested my head on the leather seat of this expensive car. I'm so tired.
"Your brother is gonna be so excited to see you!" Mr Dante suddenly cheered.
My head snapped up as I stared at him in pure shock.
"A brother!" I said my mouth a gab.
"Yeah, he is a year and a couple of months older than you," he revealed, and I felt the air get knocked out of me.
I always dreamed of having an older brother. Someone to be protective over me.
I got so lost in my thoughts that I didn't notice the car stopping and Mr Dante getting out.
He opened the door for me and led me to the door. It was late at night so I couldn't see the house fully. But it seemed dangerously familiar.
He pushed the front door open, and the moment I walked in. I remembered the place.
My eyes locked with the group of boys that were sitting in the living room. Their eyes jolted up to me and Mr Dante.
Alex and Miss Hannah stood up and came close to me. They were in shock, too.
"What are you doing here?" Alex roared.
"Meet your mother and brother Sara," Mr Dante introduced with a huge smile.
You gotta be kidding me!
