Chapter 20

chapter 20

My Cold Husband!(Completed)

"Let me introduce her! Meet my wife, Jeon Y/n."As soon as the words left Jungkook's mouth, silence stretched between them. Lia's jaw nearly hit the floor, her wide eyes flickering with disbelief. She blinked once, twice—perhaps hoping she had misheard him.The Jeon Jungkook? The most sought-after, powerful businessman—married? It was unfathomable.A slow realization dawned upon her, shattering whatever delusional fantasies she had nurtured. Today was supposed to be her day, her birthday, the perfect opportunity to get closer to him. Yet, within mere seconds, all her hopes crumbled like a fragile house of cards.Jimin, standing beside them, raised a brow in mild surprise, though he wasn’t as stunned as Lia. He had his suspicions, but the sight of Y/n—so soft, so delicate—beside Jungkook still puzzled him. How did someone like her end up with someone like Jungkook? The man was infamous for his cold-hearted nature, his lack of attachment, and yet... here he was, introducing her as his wife.He had to admit, it was an odd pairing. Jungkook, the man known for his sharp tongue and ruthless demeanor, and Y/n, who seemed as innocent and pure as freshly fallen snow. For a brief moment, Jimin found himself admiring her—though not in a romantic way. He was simply intrigued. But then he quickly shook off the thought. She was Jungkook’s wife, after all.Meanwhile, Y/n stood frozen in place, a storm of emotions raging within her. Her heart thudded against her ribs, her mind spinning. Should she feel happy that Jungkook introduced her as his wife? Or should she remind herself that this was nothing more than an act?She clenched her fists at her sides, trying to steady herself. He hates me. So why is he acting like this? His touch, the possessiveness in his voice—it was all for show. Just a mere performance to keep up appearances. But why did it hurt so much?"Looks like you're all getting along well," Mr. Min’s voice cut through the thick tension.Everyone turned towards him, their expressions shifting. Polite smiles formed on their faces, though none except Y/n’s were genuine."Mr. Jeon, you haven’t taken anything. Let me call a waiter for you," Mr. Min offered.Jungkook, who had been silently observing Y/n, finally tore his gaze away. "Ah, there's no need, Mr. Min. I'm fine.""Nonsense!" Mr. Min chuckled. "A man of your stature at a party without even a drink in hand? At least take one for show."Jungkook suppressed a sigh, knowing the man wouldn't back down easily. He turned his head slightly, looking down at Y/n, his breath ghosting over her ear as he lowered his voice."Do you want something?"Y/n’s breath hitched. His proximity was unnerving, his deep voice sending a shiver down her spine. She willed herself to stay composed, but the way his dark eyes bored into hers made it difficult. She didn't answer right away, lost in the intensity of the moment. Why are you making this so hard for me, Jungkook? Her heart ached. She knew it was all fake, yet a small part of her wished it wasn’t. How was she supposed to distance herself from him when he acted like this—like a caring husband?“Y/n,” he called again, snapping her out of her daze. His voice was softer, almost hesitant. She looked away, embarrassed at being caught staring. Clearing her throat, she answered quietly, “Water.”Jungkook nodded and turned back to Mr. Min. "A glass of water for my wife, please. Nothing for me. Thank you."My wife. The words echoed in his mind, unsettling him in a way he couldn’t quite place.Mr. Min called for a waiter, but Jungkook had already reached for a glass from the nearby table. As he handed it to Y/n, he leaned in, his voice a hushed whisper."Don't be so whipped Mrs Jeon. We are in public." Y/n’s eyes widened. Her grip on the glass tightened as warmth flooded her cheeks. She refused to look at him, knowing full well he was enjoying this. From a distance, Lia observed the interaction, her expression unreadable. But the slight narrowing of her eyes didn’t go unnoticed.“Mr. Park, you mentioned you were here for a meeting. How did it go?” Mr. Min inquired, shifting the conversation.Jimin, who had been quietly watching the exchange, turned his attention back. “It went well, Mr. Min. Even Mr. Jeon was there.”Lia nodded her head and look at Jungkook before shifting her gaze to y/n."Y/n right?" A confused y/n answered with a small yes."So y/n would you mind if I have a  dance with your husband?"Silence fell over the group. Jimin nearly choked on his drink, while Jungkook tensed beside Y/n, his jaw clenching. Lia had asked it so casually, as if she were requesting a sip of someone’s drink rather than a dance with a married man.Jungkook opened his mouth, ready to refuse, but before he could, Y/n spoke."No I don't have any problem." Lia smiled widely while Jungkook stared at y/n in disbelief. She agreed... just like that?Something inside him twisted, something he didn’t want to name. He had expected—no, anticipated—resistance from her. Maybe a flicker of hesitation, a question, or even the usual defiance he had grown accustomed to. But instead, she had agreed so easily, so effortlessly, as if it didn’t matter to her at all.Jungkook clenched his jaw, his fingers curling into his palms. Was he expecting something else? The answer to that unsettled him.For a moment, silence stretched between them, heavy and suffocating. He found himself watching her, searching her expression for something—anything—that could explain why she had agreed so quickly. But Y/N’s face remained unreadable, her eyes refusing to meet his.He exhaled sharply, shaking off the unfamiliar emotion creeping into his chest. He didn't know what to say, couldn't even form the right words.Instead, he just stood there, staring at her, unable to understand why her quiet acceptance bothered him so damn much. Was he expecting her to claim her right on him? Lia beamed. "Thanks, Y/n! Don’t worry, I don’t have any bad intentions. I just want to dance."Y/n smiled faintly, though it didn’t reach her eyes. Why would I have a problem? I have no right to stop him.“Mr. Jeon! Shall we?” Lia extended her hand toward Jungkook. His entire body stiffened. He glanced at Y/n, his sharp gaze burning into her, but she refused to meet his eyes. Grinding his teeth, he took Lia’s hand and followed her to the dance floor.Y/n’s eyes trailed after them, watching as they moved in sync with the slow, romantic melody. Her chest tightened painfully. How badly she wished it were her in Lia’s place. But she knew better than to dream of something impossible. He doesn’t want me. He never did.She bit her lip, forcing down the lump in her throat. This marriage won’t last forever. I can’t afford to hold onto false hope. She had learned the hard way that unrequited love only led to heartbreak.Jungkook’s gaze flickered towards her from the dance floor, his brows furrowing. Something in her expression made something unfamiliar stir within him—something he didn’t have a name for.Jimin, who had been watching everything unfold, finally broke the silence."Are you okay?"Jimin’s voice was soft, laced with genuine concern as he observed the girl in front of him. Y/N had been standing there, fidgeting slightly, her eyes darting around the crowded room as if looking for an escape. She blinked, startled by his sudden question. "H-Huh?"Jimin tilted his head, watching her closely. "You seem uncomfortable," he pointed out.Y/N hesitated before giving a small, almost reluctant nod. "N-no, I’m fine."He raised a brow at her response, unconvinced. "You sure? I mean, you don’t seem to be enjoying the party. Do you need anything?"His voice was calm, yet filled with an unmistakable warmth. He wasn’t just making small talk—he was genuinely concerned.Y/N swallowed, nervously tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "N-no, I don’t need anything. A-actually... I’m not a party person."She spoke hesitantly, her voice soft, as if unsure whether she should be admitting this to a stranger.Jimin, however, found her honesty refreshing. He chuckled lightly, shaking his head in amusement. "Wow. That’s unexpected."Y/N’s brows furrowed, and she instantly looked down, feeling self-conscious. Was he making fun of her? Did he find her boring? She knew she wasn’t the kind of girl who fit into this extravagant world—loud music, flashing lights, expensive drinks, and endless laughter. She was nothing like the people around her.Jimin noticed her reaction and immediately softened. "Oh no, I didn’t mean that in a bad way. Actually, I find it... impressive."Y/N hesitantly lifted her gaze to him, confusion flickering in her eyes."Most people these days love parties, drinking, dancing. But you... you’re different," he said, a small smile playing on his lips. "And that’s a good thing."She still didn’t say anything, merely staring at the floor as if it had suddenly become the most interesting thing in the world.Sensing the growing awkwardness, Jimin cleared his throat and extended his hand toward her. "Would you like to dance with me?"Y/N’s eyes snapped to his outstretched hand, blinking in surprise. She looked at him, then at his hand, then back at him again—her confusion was evident.Jimin internally chuckled at her reaction. She looked utterly adorable, her big, uncertain eyes making her seem even more innocent."Don’t get me wrong," he added quickly, sensing her hesitation. "I just want to make you feel comfortable. Which, let’s be honest, you definitely aren’t right now."Y/N bit her lip, her fingers fidgeting at the hem of her dress. She glanced at his hand before shaking her head. "Thank you, but I-I don’t know how to dance."Her voice was barely above a whisper, but Jimin heard it clearly. He was momentarily taken aback. In a world where people pretended to be confident, where they faked perfection, here she was—completely honest, unapologetically herself."You don’t know how to dance?" He repeated, his lips curling into an amused smile. "Wow. You’re full of surprises, aren’t you?"Y/N’s cheeks tinged pink, her gaze lowering again.Jimin studied her for a moment, intrigued. He had met all kinds of people in his life—bold, reckless, flirtatious, manipulative. But Y/N... she was different. So pure, so untouched by the cunningness of the world. It was almost unreal. And yet, she was married to Jeon Jungkook. That thought alone made him pause. How did a girl like her end up with a man like him?Jungkook was cold, distant, and ruthless. He wasn’t the kind to offer warmth, nor was he the type to be gentle. And Y/N? She was like the very embodiment of softness. It was an odd contrast. An icy prince and a warm-hearted girl.Opposites attract, they say.But do they really attract? Jimin wasn’t sure.He could sense her nervousness, the way she seemed unsure of herself around him. It was their first meeting, after all, and he knew better than to expect immediate comfort from someone so reserved. So, instead of pressuring her, he simply smiled—one of those genuine, easy smiles that had a way of putting people at ease.Y/N caught a small detail about it.The way his eyes disappeared when he smiled. It was... warm. Unlike most people here, who carried an air of arrogance, Jimin’s energy felt different. She wasn’t sure if she should trust that feeling, but at that moment, she allowed herself to believe in it, just a little."You don't have to think about this. Just hold me and find your perfection."
