Chapter 46

The beginning of my sins pt 2

The Alpha Academy [Lost Mates Book 1]

>>Grace

I sat on a chair in front of a single hospital bed. A sick child lay on it, with an oxygen mask on his face and tons of drips. He had his eyes open but occasionally closed them. I tried talking to him but he wouldn't reply. He would just stare at the ceiling and then close his eyes.

I just sat there for hours, looking at the pale bony kid who looked my age with the smell of medicine and chlorine constantly icking me.

"I'm Grace," I said for the 30th time.

"I know."

!!!!

He finally answered and I perked up from the chair.

"Hi," I said, "The tall lady said you're my brother."

He closed his eyes, "Apparently," And said no more. He looked like he was in a lot of pain. I was about to ask him when the door opened and the tall lady entered the room. She looked at Mael and then at me.

"Did you meet with your brother?" She asked.

"Um, yes."

"What do you think? Wanna stay here?" She smiled, "Be some company for your family?"

"Umm," I shook my head lightly, "I want to go home."

"Home? This is your home now." She spoke in a demanding tone, "You will be staying here for the next few months."

"B-but-" Tears began dripping down my eyes, "I wanna go home!"

She raised her hand to hit me, "Quiet or else!" She glared at me, "I don't want useless tears."

I stopped myself from crying immediately,

"You will be staying here. This is your home. And I am your mom now. It's just for a few months." She looked like a beast to me, like a cheetah who could attack at any time.

"But my mom is-" I tried to correct her but she squeezed my cheeks between her right-hand fingers to make me shut up

"You better listen to everything I say or not only you but your real mom will get hurt too." She squeezed tighter and it hurt like hell, "Do you get it?"

I nodded vigorously.

"Good." She let me go and I dropped down on the floor since my legs gave out. She left the room and tears started dripping again.

That was extremely scary. I was genuinely terrified especially because at that time I had no idea that my soon-to-be stepmother had released her threatening Alpha pheromones.

All I knew was that I was suddenly terrified.

"Cry all you want." I heard Mael's soft voice. And even though I didn't know him at all, his words let my emotions come out and I cried like a little baby.

I was scared. To begin with, I was kidnapped, and then my mother was taken away from me, and now I'm being told I can't go back home? Someone else is going to be my mom?? Why? Just why!?! I want to go home!!

I sniffled and wiped the tears from my cheeks even though I kept getting them wet. Like the child that I was, my face turned red after crying my heart out and I had snot coming out of my nose that I cleaned up with the tissue lying next to the bed.

When I calmed down a bit I climbed up the chair and sat to face Mael again.

"This place is scary." I cleared my throat and sniffled one last time, "I wanna go home." I said.

Mael didn't reply. He just stared at the ceiling and soon the room turned eerily silent. The heart monitor was the only thing that made some sound and the room started feeling queasy after a few minutes. The added scent of chemicals was messing with my senses and my brain.

I started feeling anxious and the walls felt like they could just cave in

My heart started pounding and I looked at my brother again. Does he stay here every day? On this same bed? All alone? It was dreadful even to think about it. How can someone stay in such a horrible place? All by himself with a drip constantly attached to him??

My heart trembled the more I looked at him.

"Say," He whispered, finally cutting the silence, "Can you cut things?"

"Cut things?"

"With scissors." He finally looked at me. I nodded and then he pointed at a pair of scissors on the table at the table on the far corner, "Go get that." I went and grabbed it.

"What do you want to do with it?" I came back and climbed onto my seat again.

"Cut this white pipe that leads to my mouth." He brought his shaky skinny hand that had a drip attached to it and pointed at the oxygen pipe. His nails were neatly cut though, and so was his hair. His clothes were sparkly clean and new as well but he, himself...

"What will that do?" I asked.

"It will take me to a better place."

???

His words made no sense to me.

"How will that happen?" I frowned, "And where will you go?"

"To a place," It was hard to hear him but I couldn't really move his mask away since it was practically embedded on his face, "I won't be sick and will have tons of friends to play with."

"Can I come with you?" I asked because it sounded like a nice place to be and to be honest, I just didn't want to be here. Any place would be fine but this stinky room!

For the first time, he smiled, "Maybe later." There was a soft sad look in his eyes, "For now just cut this." He pointed at the pipe and then his hand lay next to his body after his energy ran out.

I nodded and did what he told me. It was a little hard since the pipe was made of a material I had never cut before but I still did it.

I did it because Mael wanted to go to someplace nice and I wanted that for him too. This room was creepy, and he was probably upset being here every day. It was sad too. I hope he can go to the place he wants to.

After a little bit of struggle, I finally cut the pipe and relaxed back.

I looked at Mael and froze. Tears were streaming down his cheeks and a broken- sad expression was imminent on his face. There was a soft smile on his lips but it looked so torn and defeated, it tugged at the strings of my heart. I couldn't describe it in words but it looked like he was in pain but that he had also found his peace.

The monitor on the side table started showing strange lines and I turned to look at it while Mael's body relaxed. He looked at the ceiling one last time and then closed his eyes as the heart monitor sounded a long beep with a continuous long straight line.

Right after, I heard an alarm go off and in a matter of seconds, the tall lady, my dad, and my mom were in the room.

They all looked at Mael, then at the damaged pipe, and then at me.

"WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!!!!!" The lady pushed me aside, making me fall off the bed, and held Mael as Dad analyzed the situation. He then turned to mom.

I had no idea but without that pipe, there was no way to bring him back and I had cut it in two.

"Your daughter just murdered my son." Dad's eyes were wide with pain.

There was pure horror on mama's face and she slumped on the floor in utter defeat.

"No!!!" The tall lady held her son's body in her arms and screamed, "No!!!!" The pain and trembling in her voice made me scared.

Dad stood there in a daze. His eyes were wide and he just kept blinking like he couldn't accept reality, "No," He said, "It didn't happen." He shook his head, not even looking at his son, "No..." He paced his body front and backward while his feet remained fixed in one place.

"You!' The lady looked at me with some much rage in her tear-dripping eyes, then looked at the scissors in my hands which I immediately dropped out of fear.

"No," Dad stood in his place shaking his head. It was like everything else had faded away from him, "Everything's fine."

The tall lady drew her claws out and lunged toward me and as I tried to escape she attacked. I was able to avoid the first attack but my hair was cut off and I was left with a weird boy cut. I screamed loudly and my mom came running for me.

"Everything's fine," Dad whispered to himself again.

The tall lady caught me first and landed a lethal blow on my face. The harsh and crucifying pain was followed by the wet feeling of tears on my face after which my mom attacked the tall lady. Tackling her off of me.

"Get off me!!" She clawed my mom and threw her away. Then she looked back at me with red eyes, the pupils of which glowed gold, "I'll kill you!" She jumped towards me and I froze.

I knew I was done for.

"Rachel!" Dad came and hugged me out of the blue, "What are you doing to our son!?" His words made the lady stop

"What?" She looked at him in disbelief, "What did you say!?"

"What's wrong with you?!" He picked my trembling body up from the floor into his arms, "Our son's finally getting healthy, you can't give him corporal punishment."

Both the lady and my mom who was injured looked at us in utter disbelief and confusion.

"Come on Mael," He kissed my forehead, "Let's get you treated." He shook his head, "Nolan," He called in a young guard, "Get the woman there treated too." He said as he left the room without sparing anyone a glance.

I was too scared and too young to understand anything at that time but at that time none of the others understood how dad never accepted Mael's death, but, it didn't take them long to realize that dad simply molded his reality into something else and Rachel had no choice but to play a part in it.
